An armed man who attempted to rob a bank in Luang Prabang and escaped to Xayaboury province was shot dead by the local police in an attempt to nab him.
Lao Security News reports that the man stole a firearm from a police officer at the Lao Development Bank in Nan District, Luang Prabang Province.
The officer was in the bank’s pantry when the man walked in and stole the firearm which was loaded with 30 bullets.

Following this, the accused threatened the driver of the car nearby, seized his vehicle, and broke into a mobile phone store before fleeing to Xayaboury Province.
After the gunman arrived in Xayaboury, he sped through in the stolen car and shot at the police officers who chased him in their vehicles. The man was shot at by the police to try and arrest him but the wounds proved to be fatal.
Four police officers and two civilians were seriously injured during the incident and were taken to a nearby hospital for medical care.
The man was later identified as a Lao national with proficient driving and firearm skills, according to the police.
