The Wattay Airport Shuttle Bus Service from Vientiane City Center, suspended in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is set to reopen after a three-year hiatus on 23 August.
According to an announcement from the official Facebook page of Vientiane City 2 Bus Service on Saturday, the Wattay Airport Shuttle Bus Service, which connects the Central Bus Station near the morning market to the international Wattay Airport, is scheduled to resume operations by 23 August.
Since March 2020, Vientiane City 2 Bus Service’s Wattay Airport Shuttle Bus Service and other bus services were discontinued to safeguard passengers and stop the spread of Covid-19.
The decision to resume the shuttle bus service comes after extensive technical preparations to ensure a safe and efficient operation. Other bus services operated by Vientiane City 2 Bus Service have also been gradually reinstated as pandemic restrictions eased, a Vientiane City 2 Bus Service personnel told the Laotian Times.
According to information provided by Vientiane City 2 Bus Service, the shuttle bus will operate daily on a schedule. Tickets for adults will be priced at LAK 40,000, while children can travel on the shuttle for LAK 20,000. Additionally, passengers will have access to free Wi-Fi onboard the buses.
The outbound (from the central station to the airport) service will run from 7:30 am to 18:50 pm while the inbound (from the airport to the central station) service will run from 8:10 am to 8:30 pm. Each trip will last around 27 minutes.
The Wattay Airport Shuttle Bus Service was first introduced in 2018 by Vientiane Bus Enterprise, a state-owned company whose primary function is to provide public bus transit services throughout Laos.
This service was specifically designed to transporl residents and visitors from the city center to Wattay International Airport. The main objective behind the service was to facilitate convenient and affordable access to the airport for all individuals, including those from low-income backgrounds, helping them travel, bid farewell, or welcome their friends and family.
