Post-pandemic Era – Efforts to Promote Taiwanese Cuisine and Hand-shaken Drinks

TAIPEI, TAIWAN – Media OutReach – 17 December 2021 – Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the government imposed a number of control measures such as lockdowns and home-isolation. These measures have sparked a surge in demand for food and drinks, boosting meal pouches and delivery services. Moreover, there has been a surge in people attempting to cook Taiwanese food at home.

Taiwanese Delicacies, Taiwanese banquet dishes that represent the “roadside banquet” culture

The government released a series of relief measures from May to July this year and the “Take Out” platform was introduced to the public in June, aiming to make it easier for people to order food and take it home. Given that we must learn to live with the virus, the initiative to make food more accessible has become crucial in people’s everyday lives.

Thanks to Taiwan’s efforts in combating the virus, borders have reopened in more countries. Regardless of returning home or visiting for vacation, the first stop on people’s itinerary after arriving in the country is usually a traditional Taiwanese restaurant or street food, as well as a hand-shaken drink. With the easing of restrictions and the introduction of the stimulus package, 4,140,000 Food Lover vouchers (https://foodlover.tw/) were launched to help boost the food service industry.

With the outbreak situation under control, the “Legacy 2021 Taiwanese Cuisine for the Future” award was successfully held on October 20, 2021. After the recognition and high praises received last year with the “Traditional 2020 Taiwanese Cuisine for the Future” award, this year the theme focused on “legacy” and 72 winners from the 117 applicants were selected to be crowned.

In November, the Department of Commerce released an e-book “The Handbook of Selected Restaurants for Legacy 2021 Taiwanese Cuisine for the Future,” allowing food lovers to discover the best in Taiwanese cuisine. To attract more customers, hand-shaken drink operators have added panna cotta and seasonal fruits into their drinks as well as new ingredients sourced directly from farmers, guaranteed to create yet another craze in Taiwan. Not many countries have tackled the virus as well as Taiwan with 0 local infected cases for many days. This result is attributable to the hard work of all Taiwanese people as well as its abundant food culture. In the future, when the border is reopened to all countries, Taiwan will be showing its friendly gesture and saying “Welcome back to Taiwan!”

Best-In-Class Penthouse at Southbank Place Offers Iconic Views and Distinguished Design

LONDON, UK – Media OutReach – 17 December 2021 – Prominently positioned at the forefront of Southbank Place, with sweeping views of the Houses of Parliament, London Eye and across the River Thames onto the City of London, is The Penthouse at Belvedere Gardens, a spectacular four-bedroom apartment.

Just released onto the market for £17.5 million, The Penthouse at Belvedere Gardens, which has been designed and dressed by the award-winning design studio Goddard Littlefair, is one of London’s most exclusive residences.

Goddard Littlefair is responsible for creating the design-led interior schemes for all 97 apartments, communal areas and state of the art spa facilities at Belvedere Gardens. The spirit of the South Bank was an irresistible inspiration for the scheme, which once occupied some of the land that was used for The Festival of Britain, held in 1951, with the studio drawing on the energy, optimism and creativity that the festival embodied throughout the building’s interior and architecture styling.

Occupying the entire 10th floor and providing 360º views across London, the 3,778 sq. ft. penthouse comprises two master bedroom suites with walk-in-dressing rooms, two guest bedrooms, two kitchens, an open-plan living/dining area, two guest bathrooms, expansive terrace and a private balcony.

Benefitting from two separate entrances, accessed via a private corridor, The Penthouse at Belvedere Gardens provides visitors with immediate, show-stopping views as they enter the open-plan living/dining area, where they can soak in the incredible sight of the London skyline through floor-to-ceiling triple-glazed windows.

A key element of Goddard Littlefair’s design process for the Penthouse was anticipating the needs and requirements of future residents – creating a home that complements a lifestyle that features travelling, food, luxury and wellness.

The design of the double height lounge has been assembled for residents to watch the sun set or rise, with the apartment’s elevated position lifting them above the cityscape, in perfect view of the London Eye. The views across London are reflected in a double height mirrored fireplace, which is placed between the lounge and the dining area.

The dining area is characterised by a bespoke 5-metre book matched Patagonia stone table, with bronze tubular legs, which has been positioned along the axis from the kitchen through to the bedroom wing to accentuate the substantial volume of the space.

The living/dining area leads onto the main kitchen, which features integrated Miele appliances, a wine cooler, polished marble worktops and a breakfast bar. Due to its position in the building, it provides a direct view of Big Ben through a full-height glazed sliding door – leading onto a private terrace. With this in mind, the arrangement of the kitchen inspired Goddard Littlefair to dress the space without a kitchen clock, seeing no better alternative to the world-famous clockface outside.

Facing onto Jubilee Gardens, the expansive terrace is the perfect space for a spot of mindfulness, to dine in the warmer months, enjoy a front seat view of the New Year celebrations or simply savour the sights from one of the city’s best vantage points.

Behind the main kitchen is a compact production kitchen, which provides the perfect prep station for caterers, for example, to set up when entertaining. Two spacious guest bedrooms are located beyond, with a connecting shower room.

Across the entrance hallway are the two master bedroom suites, which both include spacious walk-in-dressing areas. The principal double-height master, located at the front of the penthouse, includes access to a private balcony, and features an impressive headboard embroidered with glistening and shimmering metallic threads and glass beads.

Goddard Littlefair has celebrated art and craftsmanship throughout the apartment, depicting culture and nature through subtle elements that tailor to the design narrative in each room.

The design team has also commissioned bespoke artwork throughout. One of the statement pieces is a bespoke chandelier in the main living area, with amber hand-blown glass discs, suspended on antique brass clasps and meticulously positioned to capture the eye.

Continuing the celebration of craftsmanship, bicarbonate of soda is used to create a delicate effervescent texture within these pieces of glass that glints in the light during the day and becomes a constellation in the evening.

Matthew Freeman, Senior Interior Designer at Goddard Littlefair, commented: “Our initial concept for the penthouse started with a round table to share ideas and construct the narrative for the project, beginning with imagining the future resident and creating a personality for them. The influence of their culture and lifestyle can be seen through personal touches throughout the home that harmonise together to create an enchanting apartment that represents the best of London and provides endless spaces to relax, work and entertain.”

The eventual owners of The Penthouse at Belvedere Gardens, one of five top floor apartments present at Southbank Place, will benefit from direct access to a private amenities space located within the building. The facilities include a private residents’ lounge and outdoor terrace looking out onto Jubilee Gardens, the London Eye and the protected view of the River Thames. It also features a dedicated health and fitness facility, with steam and sauna rooms, gymnasium, treatment rooms, wet room and relaxation room.

Residents of Belvedere Gardens can also enjoy use of the 17,000 sq. ft. health club located in the basement of the wider Southbank Place development. Also designed by Goddard Littlefair, the amenities space includes a 25-metre swimming pool, his and hers steam and sauna rooms, expansive gymnasium with specialist workout rooms, relaxation pods, treatment rooms and a hair and beauty studio.

Discussing the penthouse launch, Brian De’ath, Managing Director of Residential Sales at Canary Wharf Group, commented: “The Penthouse at Belvedere Gardens is such a special apartment that will captivate potential purchasers from the moment they walk through the door. The views on offer are arguably the best in London, with almost every landmark visible, whilst the designs by Goddard Littlefair combine perfectly to create a truly extraordinary home.”

Richard Oakes, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer at Qatari Diar adds: “The Penthouse is one of London’s most exclusive residences and we’re delighted to be adding this to our portfolio at Belvedere Gardens. From the breath-taking views and state-of-the-art facilities to the prominent central piazza, the apartment represents the very best of Prime Central London living at one of the Capital’s most desired addresses.”

Design Spectrum of Hong Kong Design Centre Presents “Delightful Design” Exhibition Happiness Finds Expression in Design Ingenuity

HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach – 17 December 2021 – ‘Happiness’ is the ultimate pursuit of humankind, but how does design inspire happiness? One of the fundamental principles of design is problem solving, so most products are designed to offer ease and comfort for everyday life. But the value of design is much more than just ‘functional’. Good design not only solves everyday problems but can nourish the mind and soul by channelling positive energy and perpetual joy. From 6th December 2021 to 28th February 2022, Design Spectrum, the public-facing platform of Hong Kong Design Centre, sponsored by Create Hong Kong of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) is launching a new thematic design exhibition titled ‘Delightful Design’. Curated by Lee Chi-Wing, the Founder and Design Director of Milk Design and an experienced of designer and educator, Lee will share his views on how to imagine, measure and pursue happiness with the public and explore these ideas through showcasing more than 30 local and overseas design projects at the exhibition.

Curator Lee Chi-wing, the Founder and Design Director of Milk Design
Through the application of Design Thinking, designers can express their vision and pursuit of a more positive and happy world through Positive Design from four aspects, including Sense, Mind, Ideology and Social.

30+ Exhibits Reveal Designers’ Formula for Happiness from Four Aspects

Commodities may make you feel happy, but it is short-lived and temporary, and not the true source of happiness. The exhibition theme was inspired by “PERMA”, a scientific theory of happiness proposed by Martin Seligman, credited as the father of positive psychology. It promotes a formula of Positive Emotions, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishment to sustain happiness. In recent years, designers have attempted to connect their designs with happiness, and take the spirit of “happiness” as their inspiration. Through the application of Design Thinking, designers can express their vision and pursuit of a more positive and happy world through Positive Design from four aspects, including Sense, Mind, Ideology and Social.

At the exhibition, more than 30 outstanding local and global design projects from different regions including Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, the UK, the US and the Netherlands will be showcased, revealing how happiness is formed through the four design aspects, and igniting dialogues on how design sustains happiness from an individual to a social level.

1_Sense:
Seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and touching through the senses is how we experience the external world. In this section of the exhibition, designers make use of colour, shape and texture as the medium, allowing users to savour happiness from design in our everyday products.

2_Mind:
Besides serving a functional purpose, design can also nourish the mind and soul, like creating a moment of peace or a humorous twist. Designers present their unique vision in a gentle and delicate way through their design works, reminding visitors of the little things they may have overlooked in everyday life.

3_Ideology:
The pursuit of happiness gives meaningful depth to life when it converges with the pursuit of truth and universal values in the context of enhancing common good. In this section, designers show their engagements with social and environmental issues such as climate change, equality, and freedom to drive social change for a better tomorrow.

4_Social:

A people-oriented approach is the key to happiness and a fundamental element of good design. With empathy as the first step of creation, designers contribute to community building through design innovation, and applying a bottom-up approach to think, create, listen and cater for the needs of different social classes, inviting the public to work together to build an inclusive society.

Happiness for All: A Co-design Experience

After walking through the exhibits from the four aspects, visitors will be invited to share their own views and understanding of ‘happiness’. Through the integration of space utilisation, STICKYLINE , a local art design team specialising in paper art crafts, created a large-scale art installation named ‘In the Wild’. The public are welcome to adorn the installation with paper flowers made with materials provided onsite and create ‘A Garden for All’ together until mid-January 2022. Then, KaCaMa Design Lab, whose expertise is sustainable design, will take their turn with another creation. Stay tuned!

Bring Designers Happiness Home

The key visual of the exhibition is created by Sandy Choi, well-known Hong Kong designer . W ith a palette of red, yellow, blue and green, Sandy has developed a dynamic system that brings forth endless possibilities. Visitors can redeem a masking tape, inspired by the four-colour design by collecting stamps in the exhibition venue!

Ikano Centres continues with growth plans to its meeting place offers in Malaysia and Thailand

Its shopping centres are spearheading futureproofing strategies driven by an omnichannel approach and strategic commercial developments

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA – Media OutReach – 17 December 2021 – Ikano Centres, part of Ikano Retail, continues to accelerate its omnichannel approach to retail amid a year marred by Covid-19 closures for its shopping centre business. As shoppers begin to return to physical visits, a key priority remains enhancing its IKEA-anchored destinations to adapt to evolving consumer expectations.

With five meeting places under its portfolio – IPC, MyTOWN, Toppen, and Batu Kawan in Malaysia, as well as Megabangna in Thailand, Ikano Centres have maintained a healthy lease rate of 92% at its shopping centres throughout the past 18 months. During this time, the group introduced enhancements to address safety, improve customer experience, pilot digital partnerships, and create innovative shopping platforms for customers to connect, engage, and learn.

“We are optimistic about our recovery as we see more visitors returning to our centres,” said Adrian Mirea, Ikano Centres’ Shopping Centre and Mixed-Used Director. “To strengthen the shopping experience across our centres, we continue to sustainably invest in both physical developments to our assets and also digital platforms to elevate the experience that shoppers have at our centres. All this while ensuring that our centres continue to be safe meeting places for the many.”

Ikano Centres introduced digital innovations aimed to support its tenants throughout closures, while giving its visitors multiple ways to engage with their favourite centres. Initiatives include personal shopper services through GoGet, livestreams supported by social commerce, campaigns powered by GrabFood and Foodpanda, and optimising its shopping centre apps to facilitate convenience to shoppers through order and collect services.

As community-centric shopping destinations, each meeting place is growing through sustainable means, with each development plan designed to cater to the needs of its surrounding community:

IPC Shopping Centre: Damansara’s favourite neighbourhood shopping centre strengthens its family-friendly offers

At the heart of Mutiara Damansara, IPC is finalising upgrades to its facilities to increase convenience, accessibility, and family-friendly services to its visitors. With a new escalator to improve traffic flow throughout the centre, it is also improving its family amenities including its family rooms and playgrounds. The Level 2 ‘Funland’ will see more fun and exciting playsets for kids, with a new ‘Playland’ on Level G. Families can also enjoy a safe and great day out with new dining options.

MyTOWN Shopping Centre: Introducing a new a new socialising and lifestyle hub in the heart of Kuala Lumpur

Targeted to launch in December 2021, MyTOWN is excited to introduce MyGround, a vibrant new socialising hub for its city-centre based visitors to connect and co-create shared experiences. More than 145,000 sq ft of its former department store location is being redeveloped into unique retail spaces, with selected units created with a flexible model for F&B tenants featuring built-in fit outs to offer low start-up costs and easier entry into the shopping centre market. In addition to welcoming BookXcess, SSFHOME+, and Panda Eyes earlier this year, sports retailer Decathlon, Puma, and a new concept Adidas store will strengthen the sports and athleisure offer. To cater to working professionals within its location, Southern Malaysia’s largest co-working space Infinity8 will be opening their first location in the Klang Valley in 2022.

Toppen Shopping Centre: Championing social enterprise with Soulmates, a flexible space-booking platform to support small businesses and entrepreneurs

To help small Johorean businesses recover from the impact of Covid-19, Toppen introduced Soulmates, a platform that provides fully prepared, flexible spaces that can be booked by the hour or day. Designed to be a one–stop solution, Soulmates is ideal for beauty and wellness, fitness, and other skills-based service providers to share their services to customers in a comfortable and professional environment. The platform is targeted to be rolled out to other centres within the Ikano Centres portfolio in the near future.

Developments are also underway for its new multi-storey car park, targeted to launch in Q4 2022. The nine-storey structure will not only provide convenience with more parking spaces, but also introduce new retail additions ontop of its lifestyle RoofTopp. Toppen is also set to welcome Lulu Hypermarket’s first outlet in South Malaysia in 2022, providing an exciting grocery offer relevant to those living within the catchment area.

Ikano Centres Batu Kawan: Introducing the next phase of its meeting place in North Malaysia with the opening of an F&B drive-thru concept

In line with expanding new retail experiences to the growing township of Aspen Vision City, Ikano Centres recently launched phase two of its shopping centre with the opening of a new McDonald’s drive thru. In the coming months, KFC, Tealive, and Coffee Bean will be new additions to create many convenient food options across 200,744 sq ft gross leasable area

Megabangna Shopping Centre: Welcoming new partners Central Pattana (CPN) Plc.

Hailed as one of the largest Southeast Asia malls, the Bangkok-based shopping centre is now proud partners with Central Pattana (CPN) Plc, which recently purchased 56 per cent of Siam Future Development Plc (SF), Ikano Centres’ joint venture partner in Bangkok over the past ten years. Together with IKEA, the new partnership will continue to focus on securing Megabangna as a safe and great day out for the many people. New tenant additions include Topgolf, which will bring together exciting entertainment offers for visitors in East Bangkok in Q2 2022.

The focus of all commercial developments and digital innovation is part of Ikano Centre’s philosophy of putting the customers first. “We refer to our centres as ‘meeting places’ because customers today come for the experiences that we offer rather than just traditional transactions.  Post pandemic, shoppers are now more aware, more savvy, and have plenty of options to get what they need,” said Ikano Centre’s Commercial Director Arnoud Bakker. “This is why we have a heavy focus on designing a dynamic tenant mix to cater to specific needs. We are also constantly on the lookout for new partnerships with tenants, platforms, and service providers that are able to create memorable experiences for our visitors.”
