Sino Jet Completes China’s First “Carbon Neutral” Business Jet Flight

HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach – 22 April 2022 – On April 22, Earth Day, Sino Jet announced the import of its own Dassault Falcon 7X business jet from France, and “carbon neutrality” was achieved through adopting low-carbon emission initiatives and the offsets of China Certified Emission Reductions (CCER) throughout the entire flight in the aircraft introduction. This is the first “carbon neutral” flight in China’s business aviation history, which will help benchmark the low-carbon transformation to business jet companies and help the whole China’s business aviation industry evolve and adopt practices in environmental protection and carbon reduction.

Sino Jet's self-owned Dassault Falcon 7X carried out the first

Sino Jet’s self-owned Dassault Falcon 7X carried out the first “carbon neutral” flight in China

Headquartered in Beijing and Hong Kong, Sino Jet manages the largest business jet fleet in the Asia-Pacific region. As an important part of China’s business aviation industry, Sino Jet is deeply involved in the implementation of the ecological and cultural thinking of “promotion of high-quality development with high-level protection”. Actively practicing the “14th Five-Year Plan” Civil Aviation Authority of China plans to incorporate “carbon dioxide peak emission” and “carbon neutrality” into the overall high-level development plan of civil aviation. Sino Jet is the first in business aviation to adopt the “green aviation” development strategy, a pioneer to promote the “double carbon” development goal.

China’s business aviation industry has embarked on a green development path

Sino Jet’s Falcon 7X business jet will lead off the green development of China’s business aviation. The plane took off from Bordeaux, France, via Dubai, and arrived in Shanghai, with a total flight distance of 14,114 kilometers. According to Carbonstop, a renowned national carbon management consultant, after adopting low-carbon emission reduction measures, the direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions during this voyage totaled 59.01 tons of CO2e, coupled with the offsets by China Certified Emission Reductions (CCER) credits, Sino Jet successfully achieved “carbon neutrality” in this flight.

Spokesperson of Sino Jet said: “With the rapid development of human society, the problem of global warming is affecting people’s survival and safety. Sino Jet has the obligation to lead the industry to be innovative in sustainable development and to continuously promote the development of the industry in a way that is harmonic with the nature.” In the past few years, Sino Jet has adopted many effective measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including the launch of energy conservation and emission reduction initiatives to its employees, progressing to a paperless office, and the use of electronic flight packages (EFBs). Sino Jet is also the first in the industry to develop an effective information management system that covers the entire life cycle of business jets.

Sino Jet says that since the beginning of the carbon neutral flight project, it has reached a strategic cooperation with Carbonstop to adopt Carbonstop’s CREO carbon neutrality plan. This concept was developed based on over 10 years of experience in consulting and practical projects on carbon footprint management. The Plan include “Calculating” carbon emissions, seeking carbon “Reduction” technology solutions, “Engaging” stakeholders to act together, and “Offsetting” unavoidable emissions, four stages to manage carbon emissions in Sino Jet’s daily operations and its every flight, as well as to provide corresponding carbon neutral planning and solutions to secure a green development of business aviation in China.

Build a new model that combines “green aviation” with “digital aviation”

Sino Jet will continue its commitment with its advocated business jet information management method, to combine “green aviation” and “digital aviation”, to formulate a “carbon management” system that is suitable for business jet companies with Carbonstop, to achieve energy conservation and emission reduction scientifically, by standardisation, and quantifiable and traceable methods.

Additionally, Sino Jet will soon launch “carbon neutral” flight services, bringing the “green flight” option to the consumers and the industry. As a fulfilment of its corporate social responsibility, Sino Jet wishes to continue to lead more business jet users and partners to accelerate their paces of carbon neutrality, to achieve a sustainable and high-quality development of business aviation, the human society, to work together to build a better future and a better world for mankind.

Sustainability Gets a Boost With New Healthy Ready-To-Eat, Ready-To-Cook Meals

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach – 22 April 2022 – According to research one pound of meat uses up to 13 pounds of grain and 2,500 gallons of water, while livestock occupies 45% of the earth’s total land, which means 1 – 2 acres of rainforest are cleared every second.

The battle for sustainability on planet earth is real, and we cannot win it without transforming our food ecosystem. A new food series backed by 26 years of manufacturing experience intends to make a difference by reducing the environmental impact of our current meal choices.

De Beers Group Invests US$2 Million In Kelp Blue, An Innovative Start-Up Focused on Growing Underwater Kelp Forests to Lock Away CO2

The investment supports a pioneering nature-based solution for sequestering carbon and increasing biodiversity, while supporting job creation and sustainable economic development in Namibia

– De Beers will have access to potential carbon credits generated by Kelp Blue to complement the company’s core carbon reduction and removal strategies as it strives to be carbon-neutral across its operations by 2030

LONDON, UK – Media OutReach – 22 April 2022 – De Beers Group today announced it is investing US$2 million in Kelp Blue, an innovative start-up focused on growing and managing large-scale giant kelp forests, initially off the Namibian coast. These underwater forests have the potential to safely and permanently lock away vast amounts of CO2 in the ocean. Research has shown that kelp forests have carbon sequestration properties exceeding those of terrestrial forests and that they help sustain healthy marine ecosystems, providing food and shelter for countless species.

In line with De Beers Group’s Building Forever sustainability goals, the investment supports a pioneering nature-based solution for sequestering carbon and enhancing biodiversity, while also delivering skills development and job creation in Namibia, where De Beers has recovered diamonds in joint venture partnership with the Namibian Government for almost three decades.

In 2021, Kelp Blue was awarded a licence to cultivate Giant Kelp off the coast of Namibia and is now in the pilot phase. The business will contribute infrastructure development in and around the town of Lüderitz, benefitting the local community by creating employment and upskilling opportunities in kelp cultivation and processing. During the pilot phase, the business will generate a range of direct and indirect jobs in biotechnology, engineering, processing, support services and logistics in Namibia

The initiative will also support De Beers in its goal of being carbon neutral across its operations by 2030. While De Beers Group’s primary focus in achieving this goal will be on increasing efficiency and replacing fossil fuel and fossil-based energy from its operations with renewable alternatives, carbon credits resulting from the investment in Kelp Blue will support the company in removing any remaining emissions, alongside other nature-based initiatives.

Neil Ventura, Executive Vice-President, Strategy and Innovation at De Beers Group, said: “We are committed to being carbon neutral across our operations by 2030, and to achieve this ambitious target we will need to recover a share of our emissions after we have removed and replaced the majority of the fossil fuel energy in our business. Instead of simply purchasing carbon credits on the market, we are looking to identify potential long-term, sustainable and innovative nature-based solutions for this – particularly those that can deliver additional carbon capture benefit beyond our own business. While there is still work to be done to understand more about the scale of opportunity, Kelp Blue is an innovative start-up with significant potential, and we are proud to invest in its future.

“Alongside protecting the natural world, another priority of our Building Forever sustainability framework is to partner with communities in our host countries on sustainable development opportunities. The potential benefits in Lüderitz and elsewhere in Namibia – in terms of employment and supporting ‘green’ solutions to wider challenges – highlight just how well Kelp Blue’s objectives align with our own sustainability approach.”

Daniel Hooft, Founder and CEO of Kelp Blue said: “We are very pleased to have De Beers alongside us, thinking about the future, today. De Beers has communicated its commitment to protecting the natural world through its 2030 Building Forever sustainability goals, with its focus on carbon neutrality, minimising its water footprint and delivering a net positive impact on biodiversity. These are one hundred per cent aligned to Kelp Blue’s core passion and purpose. De Beers’ early investment in our offshore pilot – a world first in terms of scale and ambition – specifically helps us accelerate the quantification and verification of the carbon sequestration pathways, which is essential for the whole seaweed industry in terms of scientifically establishing the potential of this novel nature-based solution.”
