From K-Drama to Second-City Sakura: How Travellers are Rethinking Cherry Blossom Season in 2026

  • Kamakura and Enoshima amongst destinations growing in popularity due to Netflix inspiration
  • One-third of sakura seekers now head beyond the “Golden Route” of Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka
  • South Korea and China rise as alternative cherry blossom destinations, rank among the top five globally for related searches

SINGAPORE, March 18, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Cherry blossom season is entering a new era. In 2026, sakura seekers are rethinking where and how they experience the iconic pink blooms, moving away from the usual hotspots in favour of media-inspired and quieter, culturally immersive spots.

New booking insights from Trip.com Group reveal that while Japan’s classic cherry blossom icons remain strong, travellers are increasingly choosing second-tier cities, alternative landscapes and media-featured destinations that promise a more cinematic and less crowded hanami experience.

The Cherry Blossom Edit: K-Drama Style

Part of this shift is being fuelled by screen tourism. The Trip.com Group Momentum Report reveals that over 70% of travellers make decisions based on what they see on screen.

For instance, Netflix’s latest hit K-drama, Can This Love Be Translated? has spotlighted settings such as Kamakura and Enoshima, two coastal areas in Kanagawa that are about an hour away from Tokyo. Since the drama premiered, train bookings to Kamakura have risen by 66% month-on-month, while hotel bookings and searches for the destination have increased by 55%[1].

Interest in experiences across the region is also climbing, with bookings for attractions, tours and activities in Kamakura and Enoshima increasing by 64% month-on-month[2]. Enoshima combines ocean views, shrine pathways and early blooming Kawazu-zakura. The result is a softer alternative to the capital’s peak-season intensity.

However, notably, icons like Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden continues to rank No.1 globally for sakura-related attraction bookings, reaffirming Tokyo’s enduring appeal even as travellers diversify their itineraries.

K-dramas have also reshaped blossom travel across their home base of South Korea. The classic Winter Sonata turned Nami Island into a romantic springtime icon, while Yeouido Hangang Park, featured in hits like Squid Game, The King: Eternal Monarch and The Penthouse has cemented its status as Seoul’s go-to hotspot each spring.

In essence, travellers are no longer just asking, “When is sakura season?” but “Where can I experience it differently?”

The Rise of “Second-City Sakura”

As more travellers tire of shoulder-to-shoulder crowds in major capitals, a clear pivot to secondary cities is also emerging.

While Japan’s Golden Route of TokyoOsakaKyoto continue to dominate with more than two-thirds of all sakura-related bookings in the top ten Japanese cities, nearly 1 in 3 bookings are now heading beyond this classic corridor[3].

Interest in these secondary destinations is accelerating rapidly. While Tokyo’s bookings grew 31.5% YoY, cities like Sendai (+89.7% YoY), Sapporo (+56.2% YoY), and Fukuoka (+54.9% YoY) are outpacing that with faster-paced growth rates.

This trend marks the rise of “Second-City Sakura”: destinations that offer equally stunning blooms, but with fewer crowds and off-the-beaten track experiences.

Where Travellers Are Looking Instead

Across Japan, these alternative cherry blossom destinations are gaining traction:

  • Sendai – +89.7% YoY. The riverside stretch between Funaoka and Ogawara along the Shiroishi River (mid-April) forms a pastel tunnel of sakura, often far less crowded than urban parks.
  • Okinawa City – +66.4% YoY, offering subtropical early blooms for travellers seeking warmer alternatives.
  • Minamitsuru District – +23.6% YoY, pairing stunning Fuji views with lakeside hanami experiences.
  • Sapporo – +56.2% YoY, extending the sakura season into early May.
  • Fukuoka – +54.9% YoY, combining coastal charm with vibrant local culture.

Nagoya (+22.1% YoY), Naha (+27.6% YoY) are also recording steady gains as travellers distribute themselves more widely across the country.

Sakura Beyond Japan: A Regional Bloom Boom

While Japan remains synonymous with cherry blossoms, sakura travel is increasingly regional. South Korea and China rank among the top five destinations searched globally for cherry-blossom related keywords.

South Korea’s Scenic Alternatives

  • Gyeongju – The ancient capital offers temple-lined streets and serene lakeside blossom views.
  • Jinhae – Famous for its riverside blossom tunnels and South Korea’s largest cherry blossom festival.
  • Seoul – Urban-accessible clusters, including Namsan Mountain Park, provide highly photogenic settings that are especially popular on social media.
  • Jeju Island – A natural escape featuring island landscapes adorned with seasonal sakura.

Significantly, Gyeongju and Jeju have accelerated flight booking growth rates of around 207% and 143% year-on-year respectively[4], indicating high interest.

China’s Expanding Sakura Map

China’s sakura destinations are rapidly gaining attention among travellers seeking both natural beauty and cultural experiences.

  • Guizhou – Once known primarily for its ethnic-cultural tourism, Guizhou has emerged as a cherry blossom hotspot, with Pingba Cherry Blossom Park among the most booked tours on the Trip.com Group platform.
  • Wuhan – Urban blossoms flourish at university campuses and East Lake Cherry Blossom Park, attracting visitors seeking city-friendly sakura experiences.
  • Shanghai – Jing’an Sculpture Park combines modern art installations with seasonal blooms, offering a unique visual experience.

Here, lakeside and garden-style spots dominate traveler searches, reflecting a preference for scenic, walkable locations.

Traveller Demographics

Globally, 62.9% of sakura trips are booked by female travellers, with the majority aged 25–49, accounting for over half of all bookings[5]. There is also notable growth among other age groups: bookings for travelers over 60 have grown 29.5% year-on-year, while trips with young children have surged 150% year-on-year.

This regional bloom boom highlights how cherry blossom tourism is expanding in diversity and appeal, blending natural beauty, cultural experiences, and social media appeal to create new seasonal travel trends across Asia.

Income tax expenses for the fourth quarter of 2025 were US$31.3 million, compared to US$20.0 million for the same period last year. Non-GAAP Financial Measures

This release contains the following non-GAAP financial measures: non-GAAP income from operations, non-GAAP net income attributable to Weibo’s shareholders, non-GAAP diluted net income per share attributable to Weibo’s shareholders and adjusted EBITDA. These non-GAAP financial measures should be considered in addition to, not as a substitute for, measures of the Company’s financial performance prepared in accordance with U.S. GAAP.

The Company’s non-GAAP financial measures exclude stock-based compensation, amortization of intangible assets resulting from business acquisitions, net results of impairment and provision on investments, gain/loss on sale of investments and fair value change of investments, non-GAAP to GAAP reconciling items on the share of equity method investments, non-GAAP to GAAP reconciling items for the income/loss attributable to non-controlling interests, income tax expense related to the amortization of intangible assets resulting from business acquisitions and fair value change of investments (other non-GAAP to GAAP reconciling items have no tax effect), and amortization of issuance cost of convertible senior notes, unsecured senior notes and long-term loans. Adjusted EBITDA represents non-GAAP net income attributable to Weibo’s shareholders before interest income/expense, net, income tax expenses/benefits, and depreciation expenses.

The Company’s management uses these non-GAAP financial measures in their financial and operating decision-making, because management believes these measures reflect the Company’s ongoing operating performance in a manner that allows more meaningful period-to-period comparisons. The Company believes that these non-GAAP financial measures provide useful information to investors and others in the following ways: (i) in comparing the Company’s current financial results with the Company’s past financial results in a consistent manner, and (ii) in understanding and evaluating the Company’s current operating performance and future prospects in the same manner as management does. The Company also believes that the non-GAAP financial measures provide useful information to both management and investors by excluding certain expenses, gains/losses and other items (i) that are not expected to result in future cash payments or (ii) that are non-recurring in nature or may not be indicative of the Company’s core operating results and business outlook.

Use of non-GAAP financial measures has limitations. The Company’s non-GAAP financial measures do not include all income and expense items that affect the Company’s operations. They may not be comparable to non-GAAP financial measures used by other companies. Accordingly, care should be exercised in understanding how the Company defines its non-GAAP financial measures. Reconciliations of the Company’s non-GAAP financial measures to the nearest comparable GAAP measures are set forth in the section below titled “Unaudited Reconciliation of Non-GAAP to GAAP Results.”

Sales of seeds from Morocco rose 2.4 times, driven by demand for rosemary, an aromatic plant used in cosmetics production and as a culinary spice. Moroccan boots are also popular on Wildberries, reflecting the country’s longstanding traditions in leather footwear craftsmanship.

Sales of fish products from Tunisia, such as anchovies, increased 2.7 times in January–February 2026, while olive oil sales from the country grew 6.6 times in the same period. Tunisia ranks among the leading exporters of these product categories.

Sales of Zambian jewelry and Senegalese kanekalon – an artificial fiber used for braiding hair in the African style – both doubled in 2025. From Tanzania, coffee is in demand, along with postage stamps, which recorded a sixfold sales growth in 2025. The stamps, depicting the country’s unique natural heritage – including Mount Kilimanjaro, savannas, wildlife, and the everyday life of local Maasai tribes – enjoy well-deserved popularity among stamp collectors.

NBA and The Coca-Cola Company Announce Multiyear Global Partnership

Sprite Returns as League’s Official Global Soft Drink

NEW YORK, US – Media OutReach Newswire – 18 March 2026 – The National Basketball Association (NBA) and The Coca-Cola Company today announced a new global marketing partnership, bringing Sprite® back as the league’s Official Global Soft Drink Partner.

NBA and The Coca-Cola Company Announce Multiyear Global Partnership

The agreement marks the return of one of the NBA’s most iconic brand collaborations, reuniting two names that have shared a deep connection to basketball culture for decades. Sprite, the world’s leading lemon-lime soft drink, will serve as the exclusive soft drink partner of the NBA across a global footprint.

The Coca-Cola Company first partnered with the NBA in 1986, and for nearly three decades, Sprite helped shape how basketball connects with fans across sport, music, fashion and self-expression. From the cultural impact of “Obey Your Thirst” in North America, to streetball tournaments in Asia, player-led collaborations in Latin America, and culture-driven activations across Europe and Africa, Sprite’s heritage within basketball culture spans generations and continents. Sprite also served as the title sponsor of the Slam Dunk Contest at NBA All-Star from 2003-2016. Together, Sprite and the NBA helped define how brands show up authentically in the culture surrounding the game.

“Sprite has always been a brand that celebrates individuality and self-expression, values that resonate deeply with basketball fans worldwide,” said Kerry Tatlock, EVP Global Marketing Partnerships and Media, NBA. “We’re thrilled to welcome Sprite back to the NBA family and look forward to collaborating together on new ways for fans to experience the game.”

“Basketball is central to the DNA of Sprite,” said Manolo Arroyo, EVP and Global Chief Marketing Officer, The Coca-Cola Company. “Reuniting with the NBA is about co-creating what’s next – experimenting with new fan experiences, exploring emerging formats and meeting the next generation where they are. Basketball is not just a game; it’s a global cultural engine, and Sprite, together with the NBA, will help to fuel the moments and memories that drive it.”

Deepening its commitment to athletes who embody bold originality and individuality, Sprite is continuing to build on its existing relationship with 2026 NBA All-Star Game MVP Anthony Edwards. Edwards represents a new generation of global stars whose influence extends beyond the court, making him a natural partner for Sprite.

“I love that Sprite has always been a brand that pushes you to do things your way,” said Anthony Edwards, Minnesota Timberwolves Guard. “Being a part of this legendary partnership between Sprite and the NBA is incredible. I’m excited to represent the brand and show the next generation the power of staying true to yourself.”

Under the new agreement, Sprite will activate across NBA’s biggest global stages, including league tentpole moments, as well as international events like NBA Global Games. Through the partnership, fans will see immersive experiences, custom content series on NBA platforms, and exclusive promotions that bring them closer to NBA fandom.

The renewed collaboration builds on recent momentum, including the introduction of co-branded, limited-edition Sprite cans featuring select NBA teams in participating markets – giving fans a new way to celebrate their local fandom and regional pride. Through integrated global marketing campaigns, digital-first storytelling, retail programs and in-market fan experiences, Sprite will connect the energy of basketball directly to ultimate refreshment. The partnership builds on Sprite’s existing relationships with the NBA family, which include team partnerships with 17 NBA teams.

Binance Expands VIP Access to Recognize and Support High-Value Users Earlier

Lower BNB holding and Futures trading thresholds for VIP 1 to VIP 3, a new Holder Program through VIP 9, and an exclusive VIP Rising Star pathway

ABU DHABI, UAE, March 18, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Binance, the largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume and users, today announced updates to its VIP Program eligibility thresholds and qualification framework. The refresh lowers key requirements and introduces new pathways designed to identify and support high-value users earlier as they scale their engagement across the platform. The changes also strengthen the competitiveness of the Binance VIP Program and make VIP benefits more attainable for a broader range of users.

“We are evolving our VIP Program to better recognize the broad base of high-value users contributing to Binance across trading, holdings, and investments, and to identify and support them earlier in their journey as they scale,” said Catherine Chen, Head of VIP and Institutional at Binance.

“By lowering key thresholds and updating holder criteria, we are widening the on-ramp to VIP benefits while keeping tier recognition tied to sustained, measurable engagement. These updates also help strengthen the liquidity and service experience that active participants rely on. Binance surpassed 300 million users in late 2025, and we are focused on reaching 1 billion users over time.”

To make progression more attainable while keeping tier recognition tied to sustained, measurable engagement, Binance is lowering BNB holding requirements for VIP 1 to VIP 3 and aligning them across VIP programs. Required BNB holdings will change as follows: VIP 1 from 25 BNB to 5 BNB, VIP 2 from 100 BNB to 25 BNB, and VIP 3 from 250 BNB to 100 BNB.

Binance is also lowering 30-day Futures trading volume requirements for VIP 1 to VIP 3 to better match current market dynamics. 30-day Futures thresholds will change from 15,000,000 USD to 5,000,000 USD for VIP 1, from 50,000,000 USD to 10,000,000 USD for VIP 2, and from 100,000,000 USD to 50,000,000 USD for VIP 3. With these updated requirements, VIP 1 and VIP 2 Futures trading fees have been slightly adjusted to maintain a balanced fee structure, while VIP 3 trading fees remain unchanged.

In addition, users who qualify through holding or investing activities, including Binance Earn, will now follow a new eligibility framework under the Holder Program, with expanded eligible VIP levels through VIP 9. BNB holdings and Alpha account assets will also be included in overall asset holding calculations, providing greater flexibility for users to allocate assets across products while maintaining the highest VIP tier they qualify for.

Binance is also introducing VIP Rising Star, a new designation created to recognize and support high-potential users on their journey toward Binance VIP. Users with a 30-day average net asset balance of 30,000 USD, including 5 BNB or more, will be eligible for VIP Rising Star and can receive personalized support, access to curated events, and exclusive opportunities designed to accelerate their path to VIP.

The BNB holding and futures trading requirement updates take effect on March 19, 2026 at 23:59 UTC. The new VIP Holder Program updates will be reflected on March 20, 2026 at 23:59 UTC. VIP Rising Star takes effect on March 20, 2026 at 23:59 UTC. Eligible users will be automatically upgraded once changes go live, and users can view their latest VIP level in the Binance app via My VIP mobile hub. VIP levels are updated daily at 10:00 UTC based on applicable requirements, and users who qualify under multiple criteria will receive the highest level they meet.

With the updated VIP thresholds expected to bring more users into VIP 1 and VIP 2, Binance is also expanding Futures referral eligibility with effect from March 19, 2026. Affiliates will be eligible to earn Futures commissions from referrals whose VIP status ranges from Regular through VIP 2. Futures trading volume generated by referrals within this expanded range will also count toward Affiliates’ Futures Evaluation metrics.

Binance VIP is a tiered program designed for users operating at higher levels of activity across trading, loans, and asset holdings, offering benefits that can include lower fees, higher limits, priority support, advanced insights, VIP swag, event invitations, and more. Find out more about the VIP Program updates here.

TAIPEI, March 18, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Each year, tens of thousands of Taiwanese students choose to study overseas in destinations such as the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, and Canada. As demand for international education continues to grow, TutorABC today announced the expansion of its Study Abroad services, strengthening its ability to help students apply to leading universities worldwide.

TutorABC Expands Study Abroad Partnerships to Over 700 Universities with Zero Consulting Fees
TutorABC Expands Study Abroad Partnerships to Over 700 Universities with Zero Consulting Fees

TutorABC has recently expanded its university partnership network and now works with more than 700 universities globally, covering approximately 90–95% of universities in the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada, as well as a substantial number of universities in the United States. This provides students with a structured pathway from English learning to international university education.

To support students preparing for overseas study, TutorABC is offering complimentary IELTS or TOEFL preparation courses for new applicants, together with one-on-one admissions consultations to help students plan their university applications.

Why Students Do Not Pay Consulting Fees

TutorABC works with universities that actively recruit international students through authorised education partners.

When a student enrolls, the university pays TutorABC a recruitment commission. Because of this, TutorABC does not charge students consulting or agency fees.

This allows TutorABC to provide admissions guidance, application support, and language preparation at no additional cost to the student.

*【Free Study Abroad Consulting】:https://www.tutorabc.com/count.asp?code=YOEppwlXdQ

Broad Choice of Universities

TutorABC’s university network gives students access to a wide range of institutions across major study destinations.

Students can apply to:

  • UK Russell Group universities and other leading British institutions
  • major public research universities in the United States
  • universities across the University of California system
  • Australia’s Group of Eight universities
  • leading universities in Canada and other international destinations

Students and families decide which universities they wish to apply to, and TutorABC provides guidance and support throughout the process.

If a student chooses a university outside the partner network, TutorABC can still provide application advice and preparation support.

TutorABC also offers a premium advisory service for highly competitive universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, the London School of Economics, and Ivy League universities such as Harvard, Yale, Columbia, and the University of Pennsylvania.

A Life-Changing Opportunity

For Samuel Yang, Co-Chairman & CEO of TutorABC, the importance of study abroad is deeply personal.

“Studying abroad can change the direction of a student’s life,” said Yang.

“It gives students access to better universities, better career opportunities, and often higher salaries. International education builds confidence, independence, and global perspective — all of which are increasingly important in today’s world.”

Students who study overseas gain international experience, stronger English skills, and global networks — advantages that often make it easier to secure their first job and build a more successful future.

“Learning English is the first step,” Yang added.
“Studying abroad gives students the chance to build a bigger future.”

Focus on the Right University Fit

According to Ally Lee, Head of Study Abroad at TutorABC, the goal is not simply to gain admission, but to choose the university that best matches each student’s strengths and long-term goals.

“Every student is different, and choosing the right university is just as important as getting accepted,” said Lee.

“We work closely with students and parents to understand their academic goals, interests, and career plans, and then help them apply to universities where they have the best chance to succeed. Careful preparation before departure makes a big difference in how well students perform once they are overseas.”

Recent Successful Admissions
