APENFT Foundation Announces 2022 Open Call Theme

This call is open to artists and creators of any age, nationality, and profession and welcomes digital artworks submitted by both individuals and teams in the forms of video, animation, virtual reality, augmented reality, sound art, and data-driven art, among others. “The most essential quality that distinguishes us from other calls is our core values—great inclusivity and openness—which are also the values that govern the world of NFTs; here, every good work has a chance to be seen,” Sydney Xiong, director of the APENFT Foundation, emphasized, “We’ve always been committed to nurturing and supporting young artists and creators who are open-minded, daring, imaginative, and able to inject fresh vitality into the art sphere.”
The same openness and inclusivity permeate the review process of the Art Dream Fund. This year’s review panel comprises more than 10 artists, curators, experts from auction houses, art professionals, and financial practitioners. Such a composition is expected to introduce opinions from diverse areas such as art, finance, technology, and design, allowing submissions to be assessed from a more comprehensive perspective. Expert juries include Philip Tinari (Director of UCCA Center for Contemporary Art), Jonathan Crockett (Chairman of Asia at Phillips), Josh Baer (Art advisor), Sylvain Levy (Renowned collector), and Conlan Rios (Founder of Async Art); the Nomination and Selection Panel includes Cheng Ran (Contemporary Artist), Laura Shao from Hive Center for Contemporary Art, Kenny Schachter (art writer), Ciara Sun (Co-founder of C² Ventures), Claire Huang (Async Art Advisor&Columnist), Mimi Nguyen (Lecturer at the University of the Arts London). Together with community members, the Nomination and Selection Panel will select 50 contestants for the final round with their votes.
Themed on “Second Life”, the open call in the last year received over 500 artworks, among which Infinite Falling by WMD Studio won the first prize and submissions of Verdi Jackson, Kong, Allyn Belfred, and Chengcheng Shi won the innovation prizes. In January 2022, all winning artworks were sold at the online exhibition and auction event co-hosted by APENFT Foundation and LiveArtX in Cryptovoxels. This year, on top of the three existing awards, APENFT teamed up with Async Art in setting up Async Visual-Audio Award for programmable art to encourage experimentation and innovation in interactive art forms. As Conlan Rios, Founder of Async Art expressed, “Async Art provides tools for everyone to create visual-audio interactive NFTs, without the necessity of mastering coding and programming knowledge. Through Async Visual-Audio Award, we invite artists to join us to turn the existing concept of art on its head and pave the way for a whole new category of programmable media. This is just the start, but we believe these simple building blocks will open up a world of possibilities for the creators out there, and we are really excited to see the genius ways people might use it.” Participants will have opportunities to attend the workshops co-organized by APENFT and Async Art and receive Blueprints-based NFT airdrops from the latter.

Another highlight of this year’s Art Dream Fund is that during the call and the selection, APENFT will co-host three online forums with ArtReview to discuss how NFT create new opportunities in the art world, the influence of the metaverse on art creation, and NFT collection and sponsorship, in an effort to foster people’s engagement in the NFT and inspire their critical thinking in this regard. The dates and guests of the forums will be unveiled soon. Please stay tuned.
The open call of the 2022 Art Dream Fund has started and will end on October 30. For more registration details, please visit: artdreamfund.apenft.io.

ANDRITZ will showcase three innovations at Victam Asia 2022
“At ANDRITZ we are focused on optimizing processes and innovative developments that will enable customers to achieve the safest, most cost-effective production, with minimal waste and energy usage,” comments Stefan de Roo, Global MarCom Manager for Feed & Biofuel. “We are here to support our customers in Asia for all of their plant solutions requirements – whether for the feed, pet food or biomass industries – based on their exact specifications at the lowest possible total cost of ownership. Our experts will be welcoming people to the booth in person, to listen to their challenges and to demonstrate that, with the industry’s most trusted services, we are there for our customers at all times.”
ANDRITZ Feed & Biofuel innovations at Booth 1910
For animal feed producers, ANDRITZ will introduce its 3-Roll Assembly Upgrade for the Paladin 2000, an automatic roller adjustment system that provides adjustable spacing between the die and the rolls to enable producers to set the perfect distance for different recipes in one pellet mill. Average distance measurements for multiple recipes will be a thing of the past, while pellet quality, capacity and power utilization will all improve.
Next, the AFTaN award-winning Micro Feed System – a dedicated extruder upgrade system designed for aqua feed that is less than 2 mm in size – is on display. The system can increase capacity by up to 40% when compared to running microfeed at reduced speeds on standard extrusion lines, and represents a major breakthrough in the industry. The system will be mounted on an extruder that also features a dedicated venting unit. This unit delivers additional flexibility in managing a wider variety of raw materials in the production of sinking aquatic feed, leading to greater accuracy and control through real-time adjustments, higher quality and yield.
Finally, Metris Vibe, an integrated solution for condition monitoring, will be presented to the feed industry at the show. Metris Vibe is a wireless vibration and temperature sensor that can monitor the health status of mechanical equipment regardless of manufacturer. Durable and wireless, the sensors work in all rough environments and deliver lower operational costs through reduced maintenance due to its predictive capabilities, increased uptime, higher production reliability and improved safety.
In addition, ANDRITZ Feed & Biofuel experts will deliver complementary presentations on its three innovations across the three days, giving more technical detail and covering the many benefits they will offer. Michel Bauer Pereira, Global Manager, Extrusion, will present an overview of efficient use of energy in the extrusion process on 7 September at Aquafeed Horizons – Towards sustainable Aqua feed, followed by a presentation on the Andritz Microfeed System on 8 September at the AFTaN Awards Conference. At Build my Feed Mill on 9 September, Faisal Baig, Vice President, Aftermarket, will provide an in-depth look at Metris Vibe, while Anders Lydom, Product Manager for Animal Feed, will present further details on the 3-Roll Automatic Roller Adjustment.
Understanding You. Standing By You. ANDRITZ at VICTAM Asia 2022.

PolyU-led key study on air PM2.5 pollution and health awarded the RGC Theme-based Research Scheme funding
The project, titled “Unravelling the Black Box between Air Pollution and Public Health for Transformative Air Quality Management”, seeks to identify the toxic components and emissions sources that contribute to the acute toxicity of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) which aggravate two index diseases of the pulmonary and cardiovascular system, namely chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and ischemic heart disease.
Based on solid evidence yielded, the study will recommend effective, practical and cost-effective approaches to manage air quality and public health in Hong Kong and around the world.
Prof. Xiang-dong Li, who is also Chair Professor of Environmental Science and Technology, Ko Jan Ming Professor in Sustainable Urban Development, and Director of Research Institute for Sustainable Urban Development, said, “The completion of the planned project may lead to a revision of the Air Quality Health Index algorithm and the associated ‘Health Advice’, and a review and updates of the Air Quality Objectives in Hong Kong. The findings will also be conveyed to other national and international bodies to influence future policy formulations on air quality in different parts of the world.”
Prof. Li leads a multi-disciplinary team of over a dozen researchers from PolyU and other universities to conduct the study, several of them are advisors for the World Health Organization. The team will organise regular workshops to discuss important health issues associated with PM2.5 with potential stakeholders in expert groups.
The research team leverages latest advances in environmental toxicology and molecular epidemiology to overcome the scientific challenge of identifying the toxic components of PM2.5 and their associated sources. Through an existing PM2.5 global monitoring network, the team will select multiple cities that have distinct natural and socioeconomic conditions for the study.
The study will also consider different carbon emission reduction scenarios toward the goal of carbon neutrality, and the health benefits resulting from mitigating both air pollution and climate change.
Over the longer term, the integrated approaches established in this research could inform future studies on the chronic effect of PM2.5 on health for identifying ways to regulate its long-term effects related to lung cancer and neurodegeneration.
Prof. Li’s project is one of eight outstanding research proposals awarded in this latest round of RGC funding totalling HK$306 million.

Wildfire Burgers Partners With Private Dining Chef To Launch Fatfuku Cheeseburger
Available only in the month of August, Fatfuku Cheeseburger will be launched in collaboration with private dining chef Annette Tan, who is not only an established chef but also an author who has written several food-related books and articles in Singapore and the surrounding regions. Known as @fat_fuku on various social media platforms, together with Wildfire Burgers, Fatfuku Cheeseburger, which is made using only the freshest and highest quality ingredients will consist of a brioche bun fully stacked with a Wagyu beef patty, chilli padi beef cheek marmalade, American cheese, coriander pesto, kaffir lime leaf, and sambal belachan mayo in between them. The highlight of the burger is the chilli padi beef cheek marmalade which consists of various ingredients, such as chilli padi, kicap manis, and dark soy sauce, among others. It is lightly seared before it is left to braise for up to 8 hours, thus achieving its melt-in-your-mouth and rich flavour profile.
Annette Tan, who has amassed over twelve thousand followers on social media, has been in the food industry for many years. Specialising in Peranakan and Eurasian cuisine, she has showcased local produce through private dining experiences for the past 15 years. Not only that, but she has also contributed her recipes to various newspapers and magazines, as well as consulted on menus at bakeries and restaurants all around Singapore. With the upcoming National Day, Wildfire Burgers’ intention to introduce local flavours has led them to partner with Annette. The use of contrasting flavours and textures certainly pays tribute to Annette’s specialty in both Peranakan and Eurasian cuisine.
This is not the first time Wildfire Burgers have partnered with chefs outside their kitchens. They previously have partnered with Butcher’s Block, a famous restaurant in Raffles Hotel, in creating a collaborative burger called Garum Cheeseburger which consisted of some of the finest Irish beef. Wildfire Burgers have also released seasonal burgers such as Uni Ebi Burger, Korean Army Stew Burger, and Manjimup Black Truffle Eggstarter, all of which are inspired by flavours from all over the world. Through such partnerships and seasonal releases, Wildfire Burgers hope to introduce new and unique flavours and experiences to their customers.
Wildfire Burgers is a multi-award-winning burger joint that was launched in 2015. They then expanded to China, opening 38 outlets across five cities. After opening three successful outlets in Singapore, Wildfire Burgers took a brief hiatus from 2019 to 2020, reinventing its menu. Today they can be found at two key locations, offering a fantastic spread of burgers for lunch and dinner. They also provide burger delivery wherever you are in Singapore. The secret to their deliciously smoked burgers is the use of a Binchotan charcoal-fired INKA grill, which allows their chef to create unrivaled smoky flavours at up to 450 degrees Celsius.
You can taste Fatfuku Cheeseburger, which will only be available for the month of August in limited quantities daily, at both Wildfire Burgers outlets located at 1557 Keppel and Bencoolen Street for $19, be it dine-in, takeaway, or delivery.
