Huawei Unveils Four F5G-A Optical Connectivity and Sensing Solutions to Accelerate Industrial Intelligence

BARCELONA, Spain, March 5, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — During MWC 2025 in Barcelona, Huawei released four F5G-A optical connectivity and sensing solutions. Additionally, Huawei introduced the latest “3 In 3 Out” developments in the optical industry. Perry Yang, President of Huawei Enterprise Optical Domain, highlighted “3 In and 3 Out” trends in his keynote: Fiber-in Copper-out for home and campus networks, fgOTN-in SDH-out for industry production networks, and Optical-sensing-in, Hard-work-out for remote sensing applications in scenarios such as oil and gas pipeline inspection and perimeter inspection. Huawei’s FTTO solution now serves over 10,000 campuses, our fgOTN is globally adopted, and optical sensing has been deployed in over 90 projects across industries like oil and gas, airports, and railways, accelerating industrial intelligence through F5G-A technologies.

To meet “3 In and 3 Out” requirements, Huawei launched four solutions based on F5G-A:

For ISPs, Huawei launched the fiber to the home (FTTH) solution that supports low-cost and fast network construction as well as multiple fiber to the room (FTTR) products to help ISPs achieve fast coverage, bandwidth increase, and user experience improvement.

For campus scenarios, Huawei FTTO 2.0 Solution implements four major upgrades in terms of bandwidth, scenario, operations, and planning. The campus network bandwidth is upgraded from 10 Gbit/s to 50 Gbit/s, delivering 50 Gbit/s to classrooms and 10 Gbit/s to Wi-Fi. Optical terminals that meet the M45 installation standards in Europe and the Middle East have also been launched, which support a direct fiber connection to hospital beds without information boxes and can be installed on the bed head panels without affecting the decoration. Additionally, outdoor optical APs were released to extend indoor coverage to outdoor coverage, ideal for school playgrounds and outdoor swimming pools in hotels. As for operations, one NMS could manage only one campus in the past, but now it can manage multiple, achieving easy O&M in multi-tenant scenarios. Moreover, planning can be upgraded from manual to AI-based automatic configuration, shortening the network design time from two days to one hour.

For AI computing scenarios, Huawei released the All-Optical Lossless Data Center Interconnect (DCI) Solution, where DC-based OTN OSN 9800 K12 platform is used to achieve zero packet loss during RDMA across data centers.

Huawei has introduced a cost-effective, easy-to-deploy miniaturized perimeter inspection solution for small campuses, including substations, oil and gas stations, and data centers. The solution is based on converged sensing technologies such as fiber and video sensing, as well as AI algorithms.

(Yunneng) are pleased to announce that the Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm (OWF) has been official inaugurated. With a total capacity of 640 MW installed, the Yunlin OWF is now fully operational and connected to the grid, solidifying its position as one of the region’s largest offshore wind farms. This milestone marks a significant achievement for Taiwan’s offshore wind energy sector, contributing to the nation’s transition towards clean and sustainable energy. Skyborn has been responsible for the development, construction and operation of the Yunlin OWF. About the project

The Yunlin OWF is located in the Taiwan Strait, between 8 and 17 km off the west coast of Taiwan, at water depths from 7 up to 35 m. The 82 km² project area comprises 80 wind turbine generators, whose generated electricity is fed into the Taiwanese power grid via two onshore substations near the townships of Taixi and Sihu in Yunlin County. Electricity from the project is provided to Taiwan Power Company (TPC) under two 20-year power purchase agreements. The project is backed by a strong financial consortium established in 2019, including Taiwanese and international banks alongside export credit agencies.

Skyborn was awarded the grid capacity for the Yunlin OWF in 2018 as part of the Round II offshore wind farm auction, whereby the Yunlin OWF was the first offshore wind farm in Taiwan to incorporate locally manufactured components.

Skyborn acted as a delivery platform, starting with the initial development and site allocation, through environmental impact assessments, local stakeholder engagement, grid capacity and permitting awards, until construction until its inauguration today. The experience and technology Skyborn introduced as well as the active collaboration with local businesses supported the development of a local Taiwanese supply chain.

Indianapolis Prize Names Ugandan Wild Cat Protector Winner of Second Emerging Conservationist Award

INDIANAPOLIS, March 4, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The Indianapolis Prize, the world’s leading award for animal conservation, has named Mwezi “Badru” Mugerwa the Winner of the 2025 Indianapolis Prize Emerging Conservationist Award. This honor—only the second given to date—is presented to a conservationist under 40 who has made a significant impact on saving an animal species or group of species. Mugerwa will receive a $50,000 award.

Mugerwa is a Ugandan conservationist and researcher and is the founder and director of Embaka, a grassroots community-based conservation organization focused on the preservation of the African golden cat. He established the first-ever community-based anti-poaching conservation project focused on the African golden cat at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in Uganda. Mugerwa began studying the African golden cat through research using camera traps, where he captured a black and white image of an unknown animal in the forest. At the time, the African golden cat was virtually unknown—an elusive species found only in the forests of equatorial Africa. Turning to the community, he came to understand how the wild cat’s primary threat—poaching—was directly connected to the livelihood of local people, as it is often caught in bushmeat snares.

Since its founding in 2015, Embaka has focused on involving the community in conservation efforts. Through four programs—offering everything from free oral health care and livestock, to helping with credit and savings for families in exchange for a pledge not to poach—more than 2,225 community members have registered to support the African golden cat.

“Having a national park in your backyard is not a burden, it’s an opportunity. That’s the connection we’ve been trying to draw for the African golden cat in these communities,” said Mugerwa. “Once you’re in the communities and you understand the problem: ‘I need money to pay my dentist bills.’ Well, what if I brought you a dentist? Once you explain that, it connects really well. The communities hold the solutions, but if you don’t talk to them, you won’t know.”

Using artificial intelligence to analyze camera trap data, Mugerwa and others working with the AGCCA in 19 African countries are moving toward a standardized model of observation to better study the population of African golden cats across the continent.

Mugerwa was chosen through a two-stage selection process and was named one of 10 Finalists in October 2024. The Emerging Conservationist award is made possible through a gift from the Kobe Foundation.

In May, the Indianapolis Prize will also announce the 2025 Indianapolis Prize Winner, who will receive a $250,000 award for their work in animal species conservation. The Indianapolis Prize Winner and Indianapolis Prize Emerging Conservationist will be honored at the Indianapolis Prize Gala on Sept. 27, 2025, presented by Cummins Inc., in downtown Indianapolis.

About the Indianapolis Prize

The Indianapolis Prize recognizes and rewards conservationists who have achieved major victories in advancing the sustainability of an animal species or group of species. The Emerging Conservationist Award, a newly established accolade in 2023, is given to a conservationist age 40 or younger. Since 2004, the Indianapolis Prize has awarded more than $7 million in unrestricted cash awards, advancing the work of conservation scientists through financial support and public awareness. The Indianapolis Prize is a conservation initiative of the Indianapolis Zoological Society, Inc.
