GCL SI Delivers Marine Floating Solar Solution in the Maldives, Enabling Island Energy Transition

SUZHOU, China, Jan. 19, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — GCL System Integration (GCL SI) has announced the successful completion of the joint floating solar energy project in collaboration with long-term partner Ocean Sun for the Soneva Secret resort in Maldives, which utilizes over 4,200 TOPCon marine floating modules supplied by GCL SI and will provide up to 90 percent of the resort’s clean electricity upon completing to fully replace the original diesel generators.

Floating Solar Project in Soneva Secret Resort, Maldives
Floating Solar Project in Soneva Secret Resort, Maldives

The project is estimated to save up to 1 million liters of diesel annually and reduce carbon emissions by more than 2,000 tons, marking a critical step forward for islands and remote communities pursuing economically viable energy independence through clean sources.

Power generation on islands has long relied on diesel gensets, and due to land and roof space constraints, transitioning to and scaling up renewable power projects is difficult and may increase costs and limit economic development for islands.

To maximize the utilization of ocean surface space and offshore solar resources, and to address the constraints of photovoltaic power station construction on land, GCL SI leveraged its extensive experience in offshore projects, and through thorough research and complete evaluation of the boundary conditions affecting photovoltaic modules in marine environments, the company offered highly waterproof, corrosion-resistant and marine-resistant solutions tailored to diverse sea conditions, including the GCL-NT10/60GT Monocrystalline Module specifically developed for marine application.

Designed to withstand harsh marine environments characterized by high salinity, humidity, ultraviolet exposure, and strong wind and wave conditions, the TOPCon marine modules incorporate multiple design features to enhance reliability and reduce operational risks:

  • Anti-corrosion frames: Enhanced frame coating thickness (5–10 μm improvement) and fatigue-resistant design improve durability and corrosion resistance in high-salt offshore environments.
  • Double-coated glass: Strengthens resistance to wind and wave loads while minimizing water ingress and salt crystallization, reducing long-term corrosion risks.
  • Highly waterproof junction boxes: Protects against water and salt spray, addresses heat dissipation challenges with upgraded diode chip.
  • Dual-layer high-grammage POE (polyolefin elastomer) encapsulant film with upgraded weatherability: Enhances moisture barriers, PID resistance, and ultraviolet stability, helping prevent material degradation over time.
  • Four-buckle connector design: Improves connection stability and sealing performance, reducing the risk of water ingress and electrical arcing in marine conditions.

The modules have passed multiple stringent certifications from TÜV Rheinland, with power degradation significantly lower than IEC standards, ensuring long-term and reliable system operation.

This milestone project underscores GCL SI’s technical capability in offshore photovoltaics while demonstrating the practical viability of floating solar solutions for island energy transition. By successfully replacing diesel-based generation with marine-adapted photovoltaic systems, the project highlights a scalable pathway toward cleaner and more resilient energy infrastructure for islands. With hundreds of resort islands in the Maldives alone, and countless more island communities worldwide still reliant on diesel power, the replication potential is substantial.

The successful deployment of GCL SI’s modules paves a practical path toward cleaner, more resilient energy systems for islands and remote coastal regions globally, supporting both decarbonization goals and sustainable development.

After serving millions of users across Mainland China and Hong Kong over the past two years, HopeGoo is bringing its travel services to more travellers across Asia as part of its next phase of growth.

Malaysia was selected as one of HopeGoo’s key growth markets as China has long been one of the top outbound travel destinations for Malaysians, alongside regional favourites such as Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore. Combined with the close tourism and cultural ties between Malaysia and China, these factors create a strong foundation for HopeGoo’s local expansion.

The launch also comes ahead of Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, and school holidays — some of the peak travel seasons each year. Tourism Malaysia’s Outbound and Domestic Travel Behaviour Report 2023 shows that 91% of Malaysians travel overseas for leisure. This demonstrates a continued outbound travel demand and a clear growth opportunity for HopeGoo in supporting Malaysia–China travel flows.

“As we introduce HopeGoo to Malaysian travellers, our priority is to ensure the experience reflects how Malaysians plan, book, and travel overseas,” said Kent Chin, Apps User Growth Senior Manager, HopeGoo Malaysia. “Beyond competitive pricing, travellers value peace of mind when they are abroad. With our 24/7 hands-on support, HopeGoo is designed to make travel simpler, more reliable, and more rewarding, ensuring travellers receive timely assistance at every stage of their journey.

Just one year after launching in Hong Kong, HopeGoo entered the ranks of Hong Kong App Store’s most popular travel apps. This gives us strong confidence in bringing the same customer support-driven experience to Malaysian travellers.”

HopeGoo’s rollout is further backed by its parent company, Tongcheng Travel, who established a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia in 2023 to explore inbound tourism development.

“Putting local users at the heart of our strategy while connecting broader travel journeys has always been our guiding principle,” said Yu Chi Xiao, Group Vice President, Tongcheng Travel. “Leveraging the group’s more than 20 years of accumulated industry experience, HopeGoo has built strong integrated capabilities across technology, resources, and service, supported by deep partnerships and proprietary AI systems to underpin our localisation efforts.

In Malaysia, we remain committed to a ‘built for local users’ approach. We strongly believe in the long-term potential of Malaysia’s travel market, and HopeGoo will continue to evolve its products and services from a local perspective, with the aim of becoming travellers’ trusted companion and delivering a warmer, more comprehensive travel experience.”

To celebrate its official launch, HopeGoo is offering a series of limited-time perks for new users:

  • Offer provides shareholders the opportunity to monetize part of their investment amid low liquidity at €3.50 per share, a significant premium to undisturbed market prices
  • KKCG Maritime seeks to increase its stake from 14.5% to 29.9% of Ferretti’s share capital
  • Offer reflects the intention to play a more active role in contributing to Ferretti’s development and growth

MILAN, HONG KONG and PRAGUE, Jan. 19, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — KKCG Maritime announced today its intention to launch a voluntary partial public tender offer to acquire up to 52,132,861 shares of Ferretti S.p.A., with the intention to increase its stake from 14.5% to 29.9% of Ferretti’s share capital. Following completion of the offer, KKCG Maritime intends to exercise its increased voting rights to support the election of its proposed nominees to the Board of Directors at Ferretti’s next Annual General Meeting.

KKCG Maritime is a wholly-owned part of KKCG, a European investment and innovation group founded by entrepreneur and philanthropist Karel Komárek, investing its own capital with a long‑term, responsible approach focused on innovation and sustainable growth across several sectors and geographies. The group has been a shareholder in Ferretti since its listing on Euronext Milan in 2023, and has launched the offer in order to build its stake while offering other shareholders the opportunity to monetize in part their investment in the context of low stock liquidity. The offer is not intended to result in the delisting of Ferretti’s shares and will not lead to KKCG Maritime exceeding the 30% threshold that would trigger a mandatory takeover bid under Italian and Hong Kong regulations.

Karel Komárek, KKCG Founder and Board Chair commented: “This offer reflects our intention to build on our long-term investment in Ferretti and contribute to its future growth and development. Our track record of value creation is rooted in an active investment approach, centred on engaged governance, experienced management teams and long-term strategic commitment: we will leverage our proven expertise to support Ferretti’s organic and inorganic growth opportunities amid the current global sector dynamics”.

Under the terms of the offer, participating shareholders will receive €3.50 per share in cash (equivalent to approximately HKD 31.711) on a cum-dividend basis. The consideration represents a premium of 21.3% to the undisturbed 11 December 2025 official price on Euronext Milan (this being the last trading day before the beginning of the recent series of acquisitions of shares by Ferretti’s largest shareholder), and of 21.9% to the undisturbed closing price on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on the same date. The maximum total value of the offer amounts to €182,465,014. If the number of shares tendered exceeds the maximum number sought, the allocation will be made on a pro-rata basis, with KKCG purchasing the same proportion of the shares tendered by each accepting shareholder.

The offer is subject to customary and regulatory conditions. The offer document will be filed with the relevant authorities in Italy and Hong Kong for review and published in each case in line with applicable regulations.
