LG Innotek Launches World’s First ‘Next-Generation Smart IC Substrate’

SEOUL, South Korea, Dec. 22, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — LG Innotek (CEO Moon Hyuksoo) announced on December 22 that the company has successfully developed a ‘Next-Generation Smart IC (integrated circuit) Substrate’ featuring enhanced performance and reducing carbon emissions generated in its production by half.

The smart IC substrate is an essential component for mounting IC chips that store information on smart cards, such as those in credit cards, electronic passports, and USIMs. When users place a smart card in an ATM or on a passport reader, the IC chip’s information is transmitted to the device via electronic signals.

This ‘Next-Generation Smart IC Substrate’ is an eco-friendly product that reduces the carbon emissions generated in its production by half. The product will cut annual carbon dioxide emissions by 8,500 tons—equivalent to planting about 1.3 million trees, the company explained.

LG Innotek applied a new material to this product for the first time in the world, achieving high performance without precious metal plating processes.

Existing smart IC substrates require plating with precious metals such as palladium and gold (Au) on their surfaces. This process prevents corrosion where the substrate makes contact with readers and ensures effective electronic signal transmission.

However, the mining of palladium and gold generates massive amounts of greenhouse gases, and the prices of these metals remain high. Thus, the industry has sought new materials or processes to replace them. By eliminating surface plating, LG Innotek’s ‘Next-Generation Smart IC Substrate’ is thus attracting industry attention.

With environmental regulations tightening in Europe, home to major customers, LG Innotek is poised to gain a competitive edge in the global market with this ‘Next-Generation Smart IC Substrate.’

Furthermore, this product’s durability is three times greater than existing products. This minimizes information reading errors caused by wear from frequent external contact and long-term smart card use, delivering both higher performance and enhanced user convenience.

LG Innotek holds 20 domestic patents related to the ‘Next-Generation Smart IC Substrate’ and is pursuing patent registrations in the United States, Europe, and China. The company plans to secure additional global customers through active overseas promotions, leveraging its exclusive technology.

Samsung To Unveil AI Vision Built With Google Gemini at CES 2026

With the upgraded AI Vision, Samsung becomes more fluent in food recognition and expands the reach of kitchen experiences

Company will also showcase a new Bespoke AI Wine Cellar and newly designed cooking appliances

SEOUL, South Korea, Dec. 22, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced that it will unveil its latest kitchen appliances lineup at CES 2026, including the latest iterations of its Bespoke AI refrigerator, over-the-range (OTR) microwave, and slide-in range[1] at CES 2026. Alongside refreshed designs across the lineup, the company will highlight meaningful improvements to vision-based AI functionality enhanced with Google Gemini and Google Cloud, showing how these innovations simplify everyday tasks and elevate the overall kitchen experience.

Introducing Samsung’s Latest AI Vision–Equipped Refrigerator

At CES, Samsung will present a new Bespoke AI Refrigerator Family Hub, equipped with the upgraded AI Vision. The feature’s key upgrade is its functions built with Google Gemini, which marks the first time that it is being integrated into a refrigerator.

Previously, it could recognize up to 37 types of fresh food and 50 types of pre-registered processed food on-device.[2] The latest version ready to be unveiled at CES is built to unlock its existing limitations to recognize more food items, offering a comprehensive and flexible experience.

It is planned to even recognize processed foods without separate registration, automatically registering their names to increase convenience. Additionally, Samsung aims to make it detect user-labeled items, foods stored in personal containers can be added to the food list.

With ingredients being identified more accurately, managing the food list becomes clearer and easier than before, broadening people’s food-related experiences. At CES, Samsung plans to showcase the enhanced capabilities and new use cases of AI Vision, demonstrating the future of a truly personalized AI kitchen.

Enhanced Wine Management With the New Samsung Bespoke AI Wine Cellar

Samsung will exhibit the new Bespoke AI Wine Cellar, designed to incorporate an AI Vision built with Google Gemini similar to that of the Bespoke AI Refrigerator.[3]

When users store or remove wine bottles from the wine cellar, a camera positioned at the top of the unit will recognize the labels and tracks bottles, updating the SmartThings AI Wine Manager[4] accordingly. The system will also be able to distinguish the specific shelf and compartment where each bottle is placed, allowing users to easily check locations without searching manually. Through the AI Wine Manager, users will be able to look up wine information more conveniently and receive suggestions on pairings based on the type of wine in their inventory, making wine curation more intuitive and personalized.

Unified Kitchen Aesthetic With an Upgraded Stainless Look   

Samsung is also introducing a lineup of French Door refrigerators, slide-in ranges and new OTR microwave models, offering consumers an updated aesthetic and a cohesive stainless-look option for creating a unified kitchen design.

The new Bespoke AI 3-Door French Door refrigerator features a zero clearance fit, which can be installed with side gaps of approximately 4mm.[5] Additionally, its door depth has been reduced by 50mm compared to the conventional 3-Door model,[6] enabling full access to drawers and food items with the doors wide open.[7] The AutoView — a transparent door — allows users to easily check items stored in the fridge.

The upgraded slide-in range features a completely refreshed design with a stainless-look finish across the control panel, knobs and door. It adopts a new bar handle style, along with a Precision Knob that provides enhanced safety.

Samsung will unveil two different types of OTR microwaves: the Air-Fry OTR and the DualVent OTR. The most significant change comes from the revised hood structure of the DualVent model. Typically, the depth of a cooktop on the range extends farther than that of an OTR, making it difficult for the hood to capture smoke from the front burners. Samsung’s new dual vent system addresses this by adding a front ventilation wing in addition to the bottom ventilation, significantly improving the capture rate compared to the previous model.

Precision Medicine Portfolio Update: Illuccix China Phase 3 Study, TLX101-CDx and TLX250-CDx FDA Resubmissions

MELBOURNE, Australia and INDIANAPOLIS, Dec. 22, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Telix Pharmaceuticals Limited (ASX: TLX, NASDAQ: TLX, “Telix”) today provides a precision medicine portfolio update in relation to:

  • TLX591-CDx (Illuccix® in approved jurisdictions, 68Ga-PSMA-11): Positive data from Phase 3 study in Chinese patients provides the basis for near-term NDA submission in China.
  • TLX101-CDx (Pixclara®[1]18F-floretyrosine), PET imaging candidate for glioma: Following collaborative interactions with the FDA, finalizing NDA resubmission and expect to provide a further near-term update on FDA acceptance of the file.
  • TLX250-CDx (Zircaix®[1], 89Zr-DFO-girentuximab), PET imaging candidate for ccRCC: Positive Type A meeting held with the FDA to align on remediation of CMC deficiencies identified in the CRL.

Illuccix China Phase 3 Registration Study

Telix is pleased to announce positive top-line results from its Phase 3 registration study of TLX591-CDx (Illuccix®, Kit for the preparation of 68Ga-PSMA-11) for prostate cancer imaging in Chinese patients. The Illuccix China[2] trial met its primary endpoint of patient-level positive predictive value (PPV) for the detection of tumors in patients with biochemical recurrence (BCR) of prostate cancer following prior radical prostatectomy or radiation therapy. The study confirms that the clinical experience of TLX591-CDx PSMA-PET[3] imaging in Chinese patients is comparable to that observed in patients studied elsewhere.

Illuccix China is a Phase 3 prospective, open-label, single-arm, multicenter study conducted in collaboration with Telix’s strategic commercial partner for the Greater China region, Grand Pharmaceutical Group Limited (Grand Pharma). The study in 140 patients delivered a strong result for the primary endpoint, with an overall patient-level PPV of 94.8% for the detection of tumors with TLX591-CDx (95% confidence interval [CI]: 85.9%, 98.2%), with the lower bound of the 95% CI (85.9%). The region-level PPV was 100.0% in the prostate bed and in the extra-pelvic soft tissue, lymph nodes, and organ metastases (non-bone); 94.7% in the pelvic region outside of the prostate bed, including lymph nodes; and 87.0% in bone metastases.

In the study, patients with suspected BCR were stratified into groups according to their baseline prostate specific antigen (PSA) levels. TLX591-CDx PSMA-PET imaging demonstrated high PPV in all patient groups, including at very low baseline PSA levels.

More than two-thirds (67.2%) of patients experienced a change in their treatment plan as a consequence of TLX591-CDx PSMA-PET imaging compared with the initial plan at baseline. This outcome confirms that PSMA-PET imaging with TLX591-CDx had a meaningful impact on clinical decision-making in Chinese patients, potentially leading to improved treatment strategies for participants with BCR. Final data from the study will be submitted for peer-reviewed publication.

In China, more than 134,000 men were diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2022[4], increasing by approximately 6% each year[5]. In line with government policy supporting wider geographic access to nuclear medicine, the number of PET/CT cameras installed in China is expected to surpass 1,600 by the end of 2025[6], compared with 133 in 2010[7].

FDA Resubmission Update: TLX101-CDx

Telix advises that its New Drug Application (NDA) resubmission for TLX101-CDx, (Pixclara®[1]18F-floretyrosine) to the United States (U.S.) Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is progressing well. The Company has had collaborative interactions with the FDA around providing additional clinical data and a revised statistical analysis plan.

Following a productive Type A meeting to review the basis of the Complete Response Letter (CRL)[8], Telix is currently finalizing its package for resubmission. The Company will provide a further near-term update when the resubmission has been filed and accepted by the FDA. The approved Expanded Access Program (EAP)[9] remains active for TLX101-CDx, reflective of Telix’s commitment to serving patients.

FDA Resubmission Update: TLX250-CDx

Telix has recently participated in a Type A meeting to discuss the CRL it received following review of the Biologics License Application (BLA)[10] for TLX250-CDx (Zircaix®[1]89Zr-DFO-girentuximab). Telix believes it has reached alignment with the FDA on the remediation of identified deficiencies regarding the product’s chemistry, manufacturing, and controls (CMC) package, which formed the substantive basis of the CRL.

The FDA has collaboratively granted Telix an additional meeting in January to review Telix’s plan for the additional data requested to establish comparability between the drug product used in the ZIRCON Phase 3 clinical trial[11] and the scaled-up manufacturing process intended for commercial use. Telix will provide a further update following receipt of the official FDA meeting minutes of both Type A meetings. The approved Expanded Access Program (EAP)[12] remains active for TLX250-CDx, reflective of Telix’s commitment to serving patients.

Slow Boat Sinks in Mekong River Near Pak Ou Cave in Luang Prabang

Authorities released a report on the Luang Prabang slow boat sinking. The report was dated 19 December but made public on 22 December.

According to the report, on 18 December at 9:30 AM, a boat with license number 0120, owned by a man named Ken from Hang Yai village, Chomphet district, Luang Prabang Province, departed from Pak Beng district, Oudomxay Province, heading to Donmai village in Luang Prabang City.

At around 3:45 PM, near Pak Ou (Tham Ting) Cave, the boat reportedly hit underwater rocks and sank about 20 minutes later. The report noted that the maritime buoyage system, which guides boats safely and marks hazards, had been damaged by previous boats. This may have caused the driver to misnavigate and hit the rocks.

There were 147 people on board, including 118 foreigners and 29 Lao nationals (25 passengers and 4 crew members). A motorbike and some passengers’ luggage also sank with the boat.

On 22 December, Lao media reported that rescue teams recovered the body of a woman named Pany Her, a resident of Khokaek village, Hongsa district, Xayyabouly Province, near Xanghai village, Pak Ou District, Luang Prabang Province.

Her two children, who were also on the boat, are still missing. Rescue teams are actively working to locate them.

Luang Prabang Slow Boat Sinking

The boat, carrying approximately 120 passengers, reportedly hit underwater rocks and sand about 25 km north of Luang Prabang City. No deaths have been officially reported so far. 

However, passenger Anna-Maria Dimitrova, a 29-year-old Bulgarian woman traveling with her husband Lazar Harizanov, told the Laotian Times on 19 December that one local woman and two children were missing. 

She noted that, “There were just a few life jackets on board.”

“All tourists were saved by a passing tourist boat going to the caves. We have heard this from other tourists. The police have not shared any information on this,” Anna-Maria added.

According to the boat owner, most luggage remains on the sunken vessel. 

Polish passenger Mikolaj K., who was also on board, described the evacuation: “We were about one hour away from Luang Prabang when we suddenly heard a loud noise, and the boat began to wobble violently. People woke up in panic. Two local Lao passengers stood up with fear on their faces and hugged each other tightly. At that moment we realized something serious had happened, when the locals are afraid, you know the situation is dangerous.”

Mikoraj continued, “Water was entering the engine room, and panic spread quickly. People rushed to retrieve their luggage. Some passengers were crying, others were trying desperately to organize their belongings. As the boat continued to take on water, another boat approached, and local passengers began handing their children onto the rescue boat. Chaos erupted. Many jumped into the river and helped each other to safety. Despite the panic, passengers organized themselves as best as possible.”

“The boat eventually broke in the middle,” Mikolaj said. “Some people tore open the roof to search for anyone still inside, but fortunately, everyone had already escaped. We lost all our luggage except our documents, but we are extremely grateful that no lives were lost.”

Authorities in Luang Prabang launched a recovery operation using boats and a crane to retrieve the sunken vessel. According to the boat owner, most passenger luggage remained on board at the time of the recovery.

As of 21 December, Anna-Maria confirmed that she had successfully recovered her luggage.

Local authorities are continuing recovery efforts and coordinating with the boat owner to retrieve remaining belongings and address possible compensation for affected passengers.

The Laotian Times has contacted the boat owner and Luang Prabang authorities for official comments but had not received a response at the time of publication.

Jacobio Pharma Enters Global Exclusive License Agreement with AstraZeneca for Pan-KRAS Inhibitor JAB-23E73
