APAC Employee Medical Plan Costs to Stabilise in 2026 After Two Years of Sharp Increase, Aon reports

  • China, India, Singapore, the Philippines and Vietnam projecting lower increases than previous year
  • Cardiovascular diseases, gastrointestinal conditions and cancer are top medical conditions that are expected to drive the medical plan costs

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach Newswire – 15 October 2025 – Aon plc (NYSE: AON), a leading global professional services firm, today released its 2026 Global Medical Trend Rates Report, projecting an 11.3 percent rise in Asia Pacific (APAC) employee medical plan costs, signalling stabilisation of medical plan costs after two years of steep increases. The global average medical trend rate is expected to be 9.8 percent. Key APAC markets like China, India, Singapore, the Philippines and Vietnam are forecasting lower medical trend rate increases than in 2025.

Medical trend rates represent the annual percentage increase in medical plan costs per employee, both insured and self-insured. These figures help organisations budget and adapt their benefits strategies to ensure sustainability in a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.

“The Asia Pacific region continues to face double-digit medical trend rates, reflecting both the resilience of healthcare demand and the need for medical insurers to return to profitability in order to deliver sustainable healthcare coverage,” said Tim Dwyer, head of Human Capital for APAC, Aon. “The challenge and opportunity for employers lies in moving from reactive cost control to proactive health strategy. As employers across the region navigate workforce transformation, building resilient and sustainable employee benefits programs will be critical to managing the wellbeing of their workforces.”

Key Findings for APAC:

  • Around one third of APAC markets — including China, Singapore, the Philippines, Vietnam and India — expect a slight decrease in trend rates, driven by moderated utilisation and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Prescription and specialty medications, innovations in medical technology and geopolitical factors, continue to have a significant impact.
  • The remaining two thirds face upward pressure from chronic disease burden, increased healthcare utilisation and adoption of technological advancements.

Conditions Behind the Trend Rate
The leading medical conditions expected to influence costs in 2026 in APAC remain largely consistent with the conditions of 2025.

  • Cardiovascular Disease: Disorders of the heart and blood vessels and high blood pressure continue to be the primary cost driver, with the greatest impact on claims across APAC.
  • Gastrointestinal Conditions: Issues such as gallbladder stones, infections, acute appendicitis, liver diseases and gastroenteritis are rising and now the second most common cost driver in the region.
  • Cancer/Tumor Growth: Cancer remains a top condition globally, with 20 countries –including Australia and Singapore – reporting it as the most impactful. The most frequently diagnosed cancers are lung, breast, colon/rectum, and prostate.

Risk Factors Contributing to the Leading Conditions
Hypertension is both a leading condition and the top risk factor for other costly diseases. Other major risk factors include high cholesterol, physical inactivity, poor nutrition and high blood glucose – all commonly linked to cancer and other chronic conditions.

How Companies Are Responding
Employers in APAC are increasingly adopting flexible benefit plans, cost containment strategies and wellbeing programs to manage rising medical costs. According to Aon’s 2025 Global Benefits Trends Study, 25 percent of companies in APAC are expected to use flexible benefits, with many considering measures such as copays or network restrictions. Wellbeing initiatives targeting physical inactivity, stress, hypertension and high cholesterol are being integrated with prevention strategies to mitigate future claims.

“The medical insurance market is transitioning into a new phase, and businesses must be ready to deploy strategies that will deliver value” said Alan Oates, head of global benefits for APAC at Aon. “Larger employers should analyse their own medical trend which may be falling faster than market averages. Now is the time to use local tendering exercises that will drive market competition as underwriters return to profitability at different rates and continue to invest in preventive wellbeing strategies for sustainable cost management. By leveraging data available externally and internally and partnering with insurers, businesses can better anticipate risks and support a healthier, more productive workforce,” added Oates.

The 33rd Guzhen Lighting Fair: Showcasing Four Emerging Product Trends, Deciphering Market Directions, and Revealing New Opportunities for the Industry

ZHONGSHAN, China, Oct. 15, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The 33rd Guzhen Lighting Fair will be grandly held from 22 to 25 October, 2025 at the Guzhen Convention and Exhibition Center, Guzhen Town, Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province. As a bellwether for the global lighting industry, this fair is themed on “Guzhen Lights up the World”, linking eight major lighting megastores in Guzhen, bringing together more than 3,600 high-quality enterprises and covering a total exhibition area of over 1.5 million square meters.

The eight exhibition halls of the main venue cover the entire industry chain categories, such as decorative lighting, smart home lighting, residential lighting, commercial lighting, outdoor lighting, special lamps, machinery and equipment, and accessories. It focuses on displaying tens of thousands of “specialized, sophisticated, special and innovative” products and cutting-edge technologies are on display. With new products across the full supply chain are unveiled in a concentrated manner, the industry trend also becomes clear – from a “dual-engine” technological revolution to an upgrade in scene aesthetics, four major trends are redefining the boundaries and value of light.

Trend One: Comprehensive Category Layout to Seize the High Ground of the Industrial Ecology

Conforming to the industry trend of “optimizing the supply chain and fostering new quality productivity,” the fair focuses on displaying popular lighting fixture categories, from LED chip packaging to smart lighting applications, highlighting the structural advantage of the Guzhen Lighting Fair as a “global procurement platform”.

The main venue will feature extended product lines of well-known residential and commercial lighting brands, with a focus on health-oriented products such as dynamic rhythm light, solar spectrum light, and mood-soothing sleep aid light; new product lines in emerging sectors, such as aviation lighting and sports lighting, will be launched for global buyers, showcasing the determination and capability of origin-based brands to transform from traditional lighting into high-tech fields. The Guzhen Lighting Fair highlights the industry’s shift from “cost competition” to “smart value creation”, with greater emphasis on technology integration and ecosystem building.

Trend Two: Dual-Engine Drive, “AI + New Energy” Takes the Center Stage

Under the “dual carbon” goals, the deep integration of new energy lighting and AI intelligence will be a major highlight of the fair. Visitors can enjoy an on-site immersive experience of low-carbon green scenarios combining photovoltaic power, energy storage, and smart control.

The organizer has selected premium brands in promising “blue ocean” categories, introducing two upgraded segments:

  • Smart Fisheries – High-powered LED fish-gathering lights and marine lighting solutions, with an AI big-data system that automatically switches between cyan, blue, and green bio-spectrum according to fish school activity, boosting catch efficiency in real time.
  • Zero-Carbon Landscapes – Solar streetlights, decorative lamps, and garden lights implanted with “light energy recovery + efficient charging” integrated technology, presenting safer and more reliable multi-scenario applications at the main venue.

Trend Three: Original Designs Collide with New Materials to Define New Standards for Artistic Lamps

Personalized consumption and eco-friendly materials are driving artistic lighting towards delivering greater “emotional value”. The Guzhen Lighting Fair embraces this shift, using functional innovation to build strong differentiation barriers, and making aesthetic expression a brand’s most powerful moat.

In response to the strong demand for artistic lamps in Europe, the US, and the “Belt and Road” markets, the decorative lighting section focuses on three main styles – light luxury, Nordic, and modern – with a comprehensive upgrade in materials. For example, aviation-grade aluminum and nano-coating technology are adopted, all-copper materials and hand-blown glass technology is used, aiming at mid-to-high-end overseas markets and securing bestseller orders abroad.

Trend Four: New Application Scenarios Make LED Strips the Centerpiece of Spatial Aesthetics

LED strip exhibitors have long been enhancers of spatial art. At this fair, brands are expanding from basic lighting to to in-depth development of “light effects + function + scenarios”, aligning with the trends of minimalism, no-main-lamp designs, and full-color ambience, promoting the diversification and scenario-based application of LED strips.

Three key on-site highlights previewed ahead:

1. Silicone + 3D-shaped flexible strips – bendable, twistable, and cuttable, perfect for artistic installations and commercial window displays with instant visual impact.

2. Extendable, multi-color low-voltage strips – Equipped with dual charging of solar and Type-C, ideal for camping, emergencies, and car trunks, all in one strip.

3. COB smart strips – Featuring human-sensing linked rhythmic dimming, with brightness and color temperature adapting in real time, suitable for supermarkets, hotels, and homes.

Light up the world from the Lamp Capital. The 33rd Guzhen Lighting Fair is more than a grand gathering of products and technologies – it maps a clear path for China’s lighting industry transformation and upgrading. Leading companies are building their technological barriers, securing global orders through zero-carbon standards and full-solution delivery, while SMEs hone their focus on niche markets to become “hidden champions”. The entire industry is accelerating toward greater intelligence, green development, and branding.

CGTN: China leads global push for a new milestone in women’s development

BEIJING, Oct. 15, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — China on Monday held the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women to address women’s rights and all-round development. CGTN published an article highlighting China’s achievements in promoting women’s development since the landmark 1995 Beijing conference, and exploring how the country is advancing global cooperation on women’s development as a major nation.

As this year marks the 30th anniversary of the landmark Beijing women’s conference that adopted the historic Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, China on Monday held the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women to further advance global women’s development.

In his keynote speech, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized women’s vital role in driving social progress and proposed four key actions for the international community to take concrete steps toward gender equality, women’s rights protection and all-round development.

He called on all countries to create a peaceful and stable environment for women’s development and strengthen anti-violence mechanisms, fostering new growth drivers to empower women, and improve global women’s governance systems to expand women’s participation in national and social governance.

Furthermore, Xi urged deeper global cooperation on women’s development, calling for support of the United Nations’ central role and the creation of platforms to promote global women’s cooperation.

China makes great strides in women’s development

Monday’s meeting took place as China continues to make remarkable progress in women’s development.

Since 2013, targeted poverty alleviation efforts have lifted millions of women out of poverty, with 690 million now enjoying a moderately prosperous standard of living.

Today, women account for more than half of all higher education students and over 40 percent of the workforce. They make up 45.8 percent of China’s scientific community, over half of internet entrepreneurs, and 42.3 percent of judges nationwide – reflecting growing opportunities for women in leadership and professional fields.

Meanwhile, women’s health and well-being have improved significantly. Average life expectancy for women now exceeds 80 years, and maternal mortality has dropped by 77 percent between 1995 and 2024. The World Health Organization has recognized China as a top performer in maternal and child health.

“On the new journey of Chinese modernization, every woman is a key actor,” Xi said at the meeting.

China leads global push for women’s development

Beyond its domestic progress, China has also been an active promoter of women’s development worldwide, especially in developing countries.

Since 2015, China has contributed $20 million to UN Women, co-established the UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education, and launched projects advancing digital education, healthcare and vocational skills for girls in Africa. The UNESCO prize alone has supported 18 organizations in 18 countries, empowering thousands of girls to pursue their dreams.

Through more than 100 maternal and child health programs, 100 “Happy School” initiatives, and numerous projects in housing, infrastructure and training, China has helped improve women’s living and educational conditions across the Global South.

Leveraging the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund (GDF), China has implemented women-focused projects worth $40 million in over 20 countries. In training and capacity building alone, it has empowered more than 200,000 women from 180 countries and established the Global Exchange and Cooperation Center for Digital Empowerment of Women, broadening access to opportunities for women worldwide.

At Monday’s meeting, Xi announced further commitments to women’s development over the next five years: China will provide $10 million of funds to UN Women and $100 million for the GDF to support programs benefiting women and girls, aid 1,000 “small and beautiful” projects to improve women’s livelihoods, invite 50,000 women to China for exchanges and training, and establish a global center for women’s capacity building.

With new commitments and deeper cooperation, the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women is poised to become another milestone in the ongoing journey toward a more inclusive and equitable world for all women.
