Kenanga Investment Bank Organises 6th Annual Fraud Awareness Campaign To Fight Fraud and Amplify Good Governance

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA – Media OutReach – 14 November 2022 – Kenanga Investment Bank Berhad (“Kenanga“) today kicked off its annual sixth Fraud Awareness Week (“FAW“), held in conjunction with the International FAW of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (“ACFE“), headquartered in Austin, Texas. Kenanga’s FAW is the centerpiece of a month-long fraud awareness campaign to shine the spotlight and raise awareness on the importance of fraud detection and prevention, as well as respond to the United Nations Global Compact’s 10th Principle, which emphasizes the need for businesses to work against corruption in all its forms.

Themed ‘Reaffirming Ethical and Moral Resilience for Good Governance’, FAW aims to reiterate Kenanga’s commitment and belief on the importance of ethical and moral values in shaping good governance whilst moulding the corporate culture that thrives within the current evolving and transforming regulatory landscape.

Similar to the previous two years, all programs for FAW including the Opening Ceremony, FAW Games and Talk Series were undertaken virtually or online, and this year’s FAW Games featured a record number of 376 participants, a 28.7% increase compared to the previous year. Participants included those from regulatory bodies, public listed companies, professional bodies and Kenanga’s vendors such as Bursa Malaysia Berhad, Securities Commission Malaysia, Securities Industry Development Corporation, Nestle, Petronas, AirAsia, Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja, Sime Darby, Lembaga Tabung Haji and Deloitte Consulting Malaysia.

“As the frontline regulator of the Malaysian capital market, Bursa Malaysia welcomes such efforts from industry players as this helps maintain a ‘fair and orderly market’ preventing occurrences of trading misdemeanours, frauds and scams – which helps to protect the interests of investors,” said Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, Chairman of Bursa Malaysia Berhad.

“The pace of the evolution of fraud risks is not going to slow down any time soon and our strongest defense in the fight against fraud is awareness cultivated through the collective efforts of all. Let us reiterate our commitment to the anti-fraud agenda by reaffirming the importance of ethical and moral values in shaping good governance,” mentioned Datuk Chay Wai Leong, Group Managing Director of Kenanga Investment Bank Berhad.

“In line with our theme this year, we aim to continue spreading the message of anti-fraud and to highlight the grave impact that comes from failure to protect oneself from fraud and scams. From within, we will continue to strengthen Kenanga’s core by equipping our employees with the necessary knowledge and understanding of the importance of anti-fraud,” added Maheswari Kanniah, Group Chief Regulatory and Compliance Officer of Kenanga Investment Bank Berhad.

“The ACFE started fraud week 22 years ago and its beginnings were humbled. In two decades time, it has evolved into an international campaign with hundreds, and sometimes more than a thousand organisations – that is thanks in large part to organisations like Kenanga, that embrace the idea of getting the word out about fraud in a big way,” commented Bruce Dorris, President and Chief Executive Officer of the ACFE.

In addition to this flagship campaign which serves to unite employees and industry stakeholders to propagate a culture of strong corporate governance, Kenanga also conducts annual e-tests on various aspects of the subject matter to assess and reinforce our employees’ grasp and knowledge of good governance and business practices. Since 2020, Kenanga employees have attended over 16,000 training hours related to ethics, compliance and governance topics including anti-fraud, anti-bribery and corruption, and anti-money laundering, counter financing of terrorism and targeted financial sanctions.

CommonWealth Parenting Combines Education with the Metaverse during the 2022 International Conference on Education Innovation

TAIPEI, TAIWAN – Media OutReach – 14 November 2022 – Taiwan’s seminal education-related extravaganza, the “International Conference on Education Innovation” hosted by CommonWealth Education Media and Publishing (CommonWealth Parenting), recently concluded its eleventh iteration. The central theme of 2022 was “Better”. Over 30 educational leaders from Taiwan, Japan, and the United States shared their views with nearly 1,000 participating parents and education workers during the live event.

Silicon Valley-based entrepreneur Jackie Lee and metaverse expert Ju-Chun Ko discuss the potential link between the metaverse and education.

As interest in the “metaverse” engulfs the globe, the possibilities of integrating education with high tech have become a subject of widespread attention. In light of this, the Conference in 2022 featured the “Edtech Metaverse” demonstration area, in which a futuristic classroom helped visitors experience how technology may enhance learning with the application of augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), mixed reality (MR), and other inventions. Companies that participated in this year’s conference represented some of the leaders of edtech in Taiwan. Their exhibitions and presentations showed that the future of learning will not be limited to the real world, and that the infusion of technology can turn the ideal of “personalized learning” into reality.

The concurrently held seminar focused on the future of teaching and the nurturing of talent. In regard to teaching, Silicon Valley-based tech company ScienceVR founder Jackie Lee and metaverse expert Ju-Chun Ko delved into how the metaverse can unleash the potential of learning. In terms of nurturing talent, former Google Taiwan Managing Director Lee-Feng Chien shared the opinion that in the past, Taiwan produced talent that was good at solving problems; but in the future, the focus should be to nurture talented individuals who know how to ask the right questions. Hocheng Hong, the former president of National Tsing Hua University, stated that many future occupations have yet to be invented. Therefore, parents should not rush to give guidance or make predictions; instead, they should believe in their children’s potential and trust that every child will find a suitable calling.

CommonWealth Parenting’s International Conference on Education Innovation will continue to leverage the power of the media to construct innovative educational platforms that will expedite the realization of better education through in-depth dialogue and exchanges.

Lifebuoy and Doctor Anywhere Announce a Strategic Partnership to Help Advance Singapore’s Preventive Healthcare Strategy

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach – 14 November 2022 – Lifebuoy, the world’s number one hygiene soap brand1, entered an official partnership today with Doctor Anywhere (DA), a regional omnichannel health provider, aiming to educate, engage, and enable one million Singaporeans to improve their health proactively.

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Health (MOH) announced the ‘Healthier SG’ strategy, a significant transformation of Singapore’s healthcare system. The aim was to steer the nation towards proactive preventive care and empower people to chart their journey towards better health, including the crucial step of helping the population reshape their health-related behaviours and lifestyles.

Fuelled by Lifebuoy’s mission to protect lives, the alliance supports Singapore’s national strategy as it moves towards a preventive approach to health. With the brand’s reach as a respected household brand and Doctor Anywhere’s digital healthcare expertise, it presented a unique opportunity for two leading companies to unite and build a Singaporean solution to support the national agenda.

The MOU will strengthen efforts for joint advocacy and support for preventive healthcare in Singapore. These efforts will be guided by a long-term three-year ambition at scale, supporting vulnerable groups and enabling greater access to healthcare services and resources.

By 2025, the partnership aims to:

  • Reach 1 million Singapore residents with content educating on the importance of preventive care and steps everyone can take to improve their health, with a focus on everyday illnesses/health.
  • Increase access to preventive care resources and services for 10,000 Singaporeans in need (elderly, disabled, financially vulnerable).
  • Strengthen Singapore’s healthcare ecosystem by providing accessibility and affordability by launching new preventive care digital health risk assessment, services and resources.

The work has already started with a first of a kind of on-ground event held at Jalan Besar Community Club on 12th November, funded by Lifebuoy with health screenings provided by Doctor Anywhere. During the event, over 120 health screenings were conducted, with dedicated fun fair for kids to learn about handwashing and hygiene.

Ms Denise Phua, Mayor of Central Singapore District and Adviser to Jalan Besar GRC (Kampong Glam), said, “The partnership between Unilever and Dr Anywhere is a great step towards supporting Singapore’s vision of preventive healthcare for our people. Unilever has been a very active partner for Central Singapore, providing complimentary healthcare products to bless many residents in need. We are delighted that Jalan Besar was selected as the first stop to launch the preventive healthcare initiatives of health education and screenings by the two partners. We are delighted to be a key community partner to help realise this vision that both partners and Singapore share. I am confident the joint efforts will make a difference towards a better life for our residents.”

Accelerating Singapore’s transformation towards a healthier future

Poh Khim Yin, Global Lead for Lifebuoy, comments, “We have always made and will continue to make quality, affordable products centred around promoting healthy hygiene habits. As a brand, we are about prevention help, but today, more is needed. The partnership with DA is a further evolution in Lifebuoy’s purpose to extend from product to services like telehealth.”

Lifebuoy is the fourth most consumed brand[1] in the world, with over 100 years of taking action to drive positive change through its large-scale behaviour change programs, which instil positive habits. With its scale and knowledge, it will share its resources with Singapore’s most exciting tech start-ups with expertise in healthcare.

“We might appear to be two very different brands, but a common belief unites us that prevention is better than cure when it comes to health. Simple actions like practising good hand hygiene and undergoing regular health screenings can make all the difference.”

Lim Wai Mun, Founder and CEO of Doctor Anywhere, said: “Emerging from the pandemic, Singaporeans have embraced new digital health innovations and are increasingly concerned about their health and well-being. There is an untapped opportunity to leverage these shifts to fundamentally change how we think and manage their health, even as Singapore looks to meet the rising healthcare challenges of the ageing population and the rise in chronic disease. Our partnership with Lifebuoy in Singapore is a significant undertaking to advance and support Singapore’s Healthier SG strategy in moving beyond reactive healthcare to prevention. By providing access, tools and awareness to help all Singaporeans make prevention at the heart of their health, it marks the transformation towards a healthier population and a healthier future for all.”

Singapore is a strategic hub for both companies:

Singapore is paving the way for digital health ecosystems with new business models delivering healthcare in an increasingly scalable, sustainable, and personalised way. Lifebuoy’s ASEAN telehealth strategy has been in place since 2020 across APAC. Lifebuoy’s telehealth activations have reached almost 300 million people since 2020.

Adrian Cheng Launches The WEMP Foundation, First Non-Profit Dedicated to Children’s Mental Health

Adrian Cheng: “Children are tomorrow’s leaders. It is our responsibility to educate, nurture and empower them to build a better future for themselves, and the world.”

Non-profit is joined by heavyweight advisors to support underserved children in Hong Kong; innovative family programme has already benefited over 20,000 students and parents to date

HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach – 11 November 2022 – Children are the key to the future of society. Creating a healthy and positive environment in which they grow and reach their full potential is therefore imperative. Yet, during nearly three years of the pandemic, many children from underprivileged families are faced with mental problems of varying degrees. To meet this mental health challenge and to provide professional one-stop services on children’s mental health support, Adrian Cheng, Chief Executive Officer of New World Development (0017.HK), has personally founded the non-profit organisation The WEMP Foundation, and invited a star-studded advisory committee from across professionals to share innovative, positive parenting skills with parents and teachers. The move is also in response to the ongoing need to enhance social mental health services and support for children and families in Hong Kong. Since its launch, The WEMP Foundation has benefited over 20,000 students and parents.

The WEMP Foundation is founded by New World Development CEO Adrian Cheng to bring all-round improvements to the wellbeing and mental health of children.

The WEMP Foundation is founded by New World Development CEO Adrian Cheng to bring all-round improvements to the wellbeing and mental health of children.

The WEMP Foundation aims to nurture and improve four key attributes, namely Wellbeing, EQ, Mental Health and Positive Parenting. According to recent research on the mental health of children and teens, nearly 40% of primary and secondary school students in Hong Kong are showing signs of mental illness. Symptoms include a loss of focus, anxiety and insomnia; suicide rate among teenagers is also climbing, with few seeking psychological support. The problem is strikingly worse among students and parents from underprivileged families.

The WEMP Foundation aims to nurture and improve four key attributes, namely Wellbeing, EQ, Mental Health and Positive Parenting.

The WEMP Foundation aims to nurture and improve four key attributes, namely Wellbeing, EQ, Mental Health and Positive Parenting.

Adrian Cheng: Nurturing Wellness and Mental Health of the Next Generation.

Adrian Cheng, the Founder of The WEMP Foundation, said, “Children are tomorrow’s leaders, and it is only by creating a healthy environment, with a great mental health and wellness support system, can children grow to reach their full potential, and positively lead our future community. I am excited to announce the official launch of The WEMP Foundation, which will help Hong Kong parents and teachers in their responsibilities of educating and nurturing children. I would also like to thank all our advisors for their continuous guidance, and for joining us on this meaningful journey of nurturing wellness and mental health of the next generation.”

Integrated Power House to Empower Children, Parents and Schools

The WEMP Foundation is an all-round collaboration platform that brings together children, parents, schools and community. It actively offers one-stop, innovative parenting education and children’s mental health support, and through the collective knowledge and resources of experts from various industries, it aims to protect and safeguard the mental health of underserved children, in order to create a positive and loving environment in which they grow.

Introducing Innovative, Positive Parenting Skills and Mental Health Knowledge

Many parents in Hong Kong are faced with different degrees of parenting challenges, in particular on how to deal with their children’s emotions. These include the pressure felt by primary school students during their studies, as well as primary and secondary school students’ addiction to computer games and other rebellious behaviours. If ignored by parents, these problems will often create insecurity among children; while if parents choose to deal with these issues by beating, scolding or forcing them to obey, children will feel anxious and uneasy, often bottling up their negative emotions. When faced with even bigger setbacks, these frustrations can easily snowball into mental health problems.

The WEMP Foundation plans to introduce positive parenting skills training to 10 kindergartens, with the goal of sharing positive parenting skills and mental health knowledge to over 10,000 kindergarten parents and children. It is set to be Hong Kong’s first education programme that targets early childhood mental health. In addition, the WEMP Foundation is also collaborating with various partners to introduce positive parenting skills and educational activities on emotions to schools across 18 districts, with an aim to benefit 20,000 students and parents.

Building a “Happy Home” Through Film Appreciation

As a means for parents to learn about positive parenting skills, The WEMP Foundation has collaborated with a number of non-profit organisations to screen the award-winning micro-film “Sounds of Silence”. The micro-film tells the story of a 10-year-old boy who is emotionally devastated following the loss of his grandmother. Through a touching story, it brings out the common psychological distress and needs of children, including the need for mothers to listen to their troubles when they feel anxious, when their video game addiction is mistaken for rebellion, or when they blame themselves for their own shortcomings.

The WEMP Foundation has also invited renowned educator Charles Yu to share three tips for building a “Happy Home”, namely be rational, be optimistic and be far-sighted. According to Yu, rational communication can avoid arguments, while parents should stay optimistic and believe in their children’s ability to self-correct and grow through their own mistakes. At the same time, Yu states that parents should be far-sighted, and begin developing their children’s merits at an early age, as children’s personality and inter-personal skills are often developed early on.
