Taiwan Returns to ADEX Singapore Dive Expo 2026 to Showcase World-Class Dive Destinations

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach Newswire – 3 April 2026 – As the global dive tourism market continues to grow, Taiwan is actively seizing new opportunities in this dynamic sector. Building on the strong success of its 2025 participation which captivated audiences with the island’s world-class dive sites, the Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA) is making a highly anticipated return to Asia’s largest diving expo: ADEX Ocean Festival Singapore 2026.

This year’s exhibition highlights Taiwan’s strategic advantages as an island nation, including convenient transportation and an English-friendly environment. The initiative aims to attract travelers from Singapore, Malaysia, and all around Asia to explore Taiwan’s breathtaking underwater landscapes.

Taiwan boasts a remarkably diverse marine ecosystem, offering distinct, world-class diving experiences across its coastlines. In collaboration with local experts, TTA will showcase the unique highlights of Taiwan’s premier dive destinations:

Northern Taiwan: Monsoon-shaped sedimentary rocks host vibrant “ocean gardens” of soft corals and seasonal green algae. It is a premier destination for macro photography, while Yilan’s Guishan Island offers advanced divers thrilling underwater hot springs and shipwrecks.

Southern Taiwan: Delivering year-round tropical diving, Kenting features magnificent fringing reefs and diverse underwater topographies, whereas Xiao Liuqiu stands out as a world-renowned hotspot for swimming alongside green sea turtles.

Eastern Offshore Islands: Off the East Coast, Green Island and Orchid Island are nourished by the crystal-clear waters of the Kuroshio Current. Divers can explore thriving artificial habitats, such as Green Island’s iconic Steel Reef, which teems with dense schools of fish. Visitors to Orchid Island can also experience the deeply rooted, traditional seafaring culture of the indigenous Tao people.

Penghu: The archipelago presents a striking duality, combining dramatic basalt landscapes above water with expansive intertidal zones, exhilarating drift dives, and vibrant coral gardens below.

From mesmerizing macro marine life to majestic sea turtles and rich cultural heritage, Taiwan’s varied underwater environments make it an unmissable frontier for divers worldwide. To provide attendees with expert travel advice, transportation insights, and firsthand local knowledge, leading dive operators from Northern, Southern, and Eastern Taiwan, as well as Penghu, will be represented at the pavilion. They will guide visitors through these unique regions and assist in planning future dive trips.

The pavilion will also host six exclusive dive presentations featuring internationally renowned Taiwanese underwater photographers and experts, including internationally renowned underwater photographers Yorko Summer and Peggy Chiang , alongside dive expert NT Chen. Through compelling visual storytelling, they will share their firsthand diving experiences in Taiwan. Highlights from these sessions will be made available online after the event, allowing global audiences to experience Taiwan’s underwater beauty.

Beyond destination showcases, Taiwan will also highlight the strength of its local industry through Made in Taiwan (MIT) dive brands. Savannakhet Urges Simple Pi Mai Lao Celebrations Amid Budget Concerns

Savannakhet authorities are urging simple and responsible Pi Mai Lao celebrations this year, warning against unnecessary spending as economic pressure continues.

In a notice issued on 2 April, the provincial government called on all sectors, especially state departments, to limit costs and focus on meaningful traditions.

Officials encouraged family gatherings, temple activities, and Baci ceremonies, while discouraging large and costly events, particularly those organized by state departments using public funds.

The move comes as the country faces rising living costs and fuel shortages, along with recent storm damage in some areas.

Authorities confirmed that Pi Mai Lao will take place from 14 to 16 April.

Measures During Pi Mai Lao

Officials will monitor markets to maintain stable prices, prevent supply shortages, and stop unfair increases, especially in transport and tourism services.

Local teams will manage public safety, organize clean-up efforts, and maintain order throughout the celebrations. Security forces will increase patrols in busy areas to reduce accidents and prevent crime.

Authorities also introduced new rules. Private events must end by 23:00, and loud noise is prohibited after this time. Water splashing on public roads must stop by 18:00, except in designated areas.

Risky behavior is banned, including throwing colored or iced water, setting up roadside water stations, and carrying large water containers on vehicles. Officials will strictly enforce laws on drunk driving and speeding.

Authorities stressed that Pi Mai Lao will still go ahead, but urged the public to celebrate safely, respectfully, and at low cost.

Sustainable Tourism Impact Fund Expands Investments Across Southeast Asia

SINGAPORE, April 3, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Sustainable Tourism Impact Fund, a partnership between Agoda, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Singapore, and the UnTours Foundation, has announced its second round of investments alongside early impact results from the Fund’s inaugural cohort.

Livingseas foundation
Livingseas foundation

Designed to provide affordable, flexible financing to small and medium-sized tourism enterprises, the Fund supports businesses that integrate environmental restoration, climate resilience, and inclusive economic development into their core operations. Indonesia-based Livingseas Asia and Bambike Ecotours in the Philippines are the beneficiaries of the new investments. Each new investee receives USD 25,000 in loan capital to expand impact-driven initiatives across the region.

In Indonesia, Livingseas Asia combines dive tourism with coral reef restoration in Padangbai, Bali. Its nonprofit arm, the Livingseas Foundation, has restored more than 7,300 square meters of degraded reef, deploying artificial reef structures and planting over 320,000 coral fragments, with measurable biodiversity recovery. The Fund’s investment will support the construction of modular housing for staff and trainees near the restoration site. This will expand Livingseas Asia’s hosting capacity and strengthen the Foundation’s ability to deliver marine education, conservation training, and reef restoration activities.

Bambike Ecotours in the Philippines connects bamboo agroforestry, fair trade bicycle manufacturing in rural communities, and regenerative tourism experiences. The loan will support the development of Ligtasin Cove in Batangas, a bamboo-built tourism destination that will include coastal ecotours and a bamboo nursery for reforestation and erosion control. The initiative aims to create local jobs while expanding lower-carbon tourism experiences that connect travelers with community-led environmental restoration.

“At Agoda, we believe the future of travel depends on the resilience of the destinations we serve,” said Timothy Hughes, Vice President of Corporate Development at Agoda. “These investments support local pioneers integrating environmental restoration and community well-being into their operations, demonstrating the potential of impact-driven travel.”

Six months after the Fund’s initial investments, early results across Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines demonstrate encouraging environmental and community impact.

Across Southeast Asia, three organizations advanced community-led tourism in meaningful ways. In Thailand, Local Alike expanded its Travel With Care initiative to 10 destinations, launching 16 regenerative tourism activities and securing partnerships with national parks and tourism authorities to develop a white paper on regenerative tourism. In the Philippines, Ecohotels grew its Bahay Farms initiative by onboarding 22 farmers, planting 500 mango trees, increasing plant-based menu offerings from 35% to 50%, and launching its Green Warriors workforce program, with 5 of 15 trainees already placed in hospitality roles. In Indonesia, Sejiva introduced heritage walking tours and coral restoration experiences across West Java and Jakarta, while scaling its #travelpositive campaign to reach broader audiences.

“We are incredibly encouraged by the impact created so far by our inaugural cohort,” said Sarah Payne, Senior Director of Impact at the UnTours Foundation. “These businesses are expanding regenerative tourism models, strengthening local livelihoods, and embedding measurable environmental outcomes into their growth. Their progress shows how flexible financing can translate into tangible impact on the ground.”

The Fund is part of Agoda’s broader sustainability strategy and builds on its partnership with WWF-Singapore through Agoda’s Eco Deals program. Through Eco Deals, Agoda works with hotel partners across Asia to offer travelers discounted stays while directing a portion of proceeds to WWF’s conservation initiatives. Those funds also support the Sustainable Tourism Impact Fund, extending conservation impact to small tourism enterprises, strengthening ecosystem health and community resilience at the destination level.

Tourism enterprises across the region advancing conservation, climate resilience, sustainable mobility, and community-led economic development are encouraged to apply for the next round of funding at: https://untoursfoundation.org/sustainable-tourism-impact-fund.

Over 16,000 Fire Hotspots Recorded Nationwide as PM 2.5 Blankets Laos

Laos faces worsening air pollution as over 16,000 fire hotspots push PM2.5 levels into hazardous territory nationwide in the first three months of 2026. Data map by Fire Information for Resource Management System : FIRMS/NASA.

Laos recorded 16,395 fire hotspots in the first three months of 2026, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAE), producing PM 2.5 levels that have now reached hazardous levels across every province in the country.

The hotspots spread across all forest categories, with National Protection Forests absorbing 5,360 and areas outside the three formal forest classifications accounting for 5,634, the highest share of any category, reflecting the scale of burning on agricultural and fallow land.

Human activity remains the primary driver, including slash-and-burn farming, burning grass for livestock grazing, and forest clearing for foraging without proper firebreaks.

The numbers spiked sharply toward the end of the quarter.

On 1 April alone, 895 hotspots appeared in a single day. Luang Prabang province topped the count with 220, followed by Oudomxay at 103 and Savannakhet at 80.

Air Quality Deteriorates Nationwide

The fires are taking a direct toll on the air.

Today, 3 April, MAE reported that PM 2.5 levels had exceeded safe standards in every province nationwide, pushing all provinces above the 100 Air Quality Index (AQI) threshold. The northern provinces of Bokeo, Oudomxay, and Luang Prabang recorded the worst readings in the country at reaching over 200 AQI, a level that poses health risks to the entire population, not just vulnerable groups.

Air quality (PM2.5) levels across Laos based on data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. 3 April 2026.

The crisis does not stop at the border.

Chiang Mai in northern Thailand, which sits directly adjacent to Laos’ worst-affected northern provinces, recorded 235 AQI on 1 April, ranking it the most polluted city in the world on that date.

Wind patterns are carrying transboundary haze from neighboring countries into Vientiane Capital and the north, compounding the domestically generated pollution.

Authorities urge citizens to wear masks outdoors, avoid outdoor exercise, and monitor for respiratory symptoms including sore throat and coughing.

Regional Response

Laos and Thailand are tackling the shared crisis.

In late March, officials from both countries met in Luang Prabang to commit to zero-burning agriculture and roll out traceability systems to identify and reduce agricultural fires across the region. The ministry called on all sectors of society to stop indiscriminate burning of forests and waste, framing clean air as a responsibility to future generations.
