Asset’s price analysis for beginners by global broker Octa: identifying the first trade

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA – Media OutReach Newswire – 30 November 2024 – Before entering the market, traders need to identify potential price movements to avoid ad hoc trading decisions. Otherwise, they increase risks and merely rely on luck. For instance, gold recently declined below $2,600 per ounce, marking its lowest point since mid-September 2024 as a strengthening U.S. dollar put pressure on traditional safe-haven assets. This movement was driven by broader economic shifts, including expected fiscal and monetary policy adjustments following Trump’s election victory, with further implications for inflation and interest rates. As traders weigh these potential changes, they can recognise market patterns and adjust their short and long-term strategies accordingly. Octa’s financial market analyst Kar Yong Ang shares tools and approaches for beginners to monitor and analyse potential price movements.

Octa

Effective methods for tracking asset’s price

Analysing the market and assets’ prices is time-consuming. Traders monitor the graphs and follow economic and political news to identify where the price is about to move. However, beginners may spend too much time trying to validate their trading assumptions. Eventually, they may either hesitate a lot and miss an opportunity or hasten and increase the risks without proper analysis.

Here’s where advanced tools come into place to facilitate the process. For example, one can set up price alerts to avoid spending hours in front of the monitor and simply get notified when the price approaches a specific level. More advanced tools like AI-powered bots may suggest potentially profitable trades or assets, break down trading sessions, and provide constructive, impartial feedback.

How to analyse an asset: technical and fundamental analysis breakdown

To analyse potential asset’s price, traders can study the technical patterns and the broader economic context behind them. In other words, technical and fundamental analysis should be applied.

Technical analysis for beginners
Technical analysis uses historical price data to forecast future price movements. It typically begins with identifying the overall trend (whether up, down, or sideways), followed by establishing key levels where the price might reverse or consolidate: support and resistance. They act as significant price points where traders expect the asset’s price, for example, to stop or reverse, making them critical for planning entry and exit points. Various indicators like Moving Averages (MA), Relative Strength Index (RSI), Bollinger Bands, and Average True Range (ATR) are also applied to confirm the trend or level, as well as better predict potential price direction and targets.

To avoid confusion, beginners can rely on support and resistance levels only to identify potential price targets, hence, entry and exit points. Many use the range trading strategy, which is based on the expectation that the price bounces off the established support and resistance levels:

  • The support level serves as a potential point where the downward trend may stop due to the concentration of buying interest. Typically, traders open buy-deals when the price reverses off the support level.
  • The resistance level serves as a potential point where an upward trend may halt since there is an increase in selling pressure. Traders commonly sell assets around these levels.

Suppose a trader identifies current support and resistance levels when analysing gold prices as 2,546 USD and 2,588 USD, respectively. Since the price broke below the 2,588 USD level as part of a bearish wave, a trader waits as the price approaches the 2,546 USD support to decide. If the price reverses, it may be a signal to open a buy trade, with take-profit placed around the resistance zone. In the case on the graph, the gold price bounced off the support, resulting in two green candles when writing the material.

Octa

Suppose the price breaks the resistance and maintains its position above, then a trader may expect it to reach the next resistance of 2,604 USD.

Fundamental analysis for beginners
Fundamental analysis evaluates broader economic factors, such as interest rates, inflation, fiscal policies, and geopolitical events. These factors affect asset values: for instance, a strengthening U.S. dollar often exerts downward pressure on commodities priced in dollars, like gold. Recently, gold experienced its steepest weekly drop in over five months as the dollar surged amid economic shifts, leading investors to reassess the metal’s appeal as a safe-haven asset.

As Trump’s second term unfolds, his administration’s fiscal policies, including potential tariffs and adjustments to immigration, are expected to shape both inflation and investor sentiment significantly. The heightened prospect of tariffs on imports could spur inflationary pressures, potentially prompting the Federal Reserve to reassess its rate policy. Should inflation rise, the Fed may delay any planned rate cuts, which could increase interest rates, bond yields, and deposit interest rates. In this scenario, the gold’s price is likely to decrease because the opportunity cost of holding gold in portfolios increases.

Combined analytical approach is a win-win
Combining technical and fundamental analysis provides a more comprehensive understanding of market conditions, enhancing the accuracy of price analysis. Technical analysis focuses on historical price patterns and statistical indicators to predict potential price movement. At the same time, fundamental analysis evaluates broader economic factors, such as inflation rates, geopolitical events, and monetary policy shifts, that may ramp up or drop asset prices. Combining both allows traders to see a broader picture and take into account all factors potentially affecting an asset’s value.

For example, if technical analysis shows that gold is nearing a support level, a trader might look to buy if the price reverses off the level. To validate the assumption, one examines global economic data or recent policy changes to gauge whether market conditions support a potential reversal at that level. Traders not willing to spend hours monitoring the market can use solutions like Space by OctaTrader, which offers timely and personified analytical posts from Octa’s experts with trading ideas relevant to their trading style. Such an approach creates a more robust strategy, enabling traders to align technical signals with economic trends and reduce the risk of relying on a single analytical method.

Tracking an asset’s price is essential for developing a disciplined trading approach. Beginners should carefully rely on data to forecast market behaviour, grounding predictions in trustworthy information rather than speculation. Making impulsive decisions won’t help to develop expertise and succeed in the long term. Hence, traders should double-check their decisions, looking for additional proof of a certain trading assumption. Those who lack practice can use demo accounts to test their strategies without financial risk. At the same time, such an approach helps to build confidence before trading with real money.

SUSS Launches the Intercontinental Alliance for Integrated Care to Tackle Global Healthcare Challenges

  • The pioneering Alliance, guided by founding members from leading universities across Asia, North America, and Europe, aims to foster cross-border collaboration among health and social care players as well as academic institutions and policymakers.
  • A new node will be set up to support the Alliance’s objectives in advancing holistic, patient-centred solutions in Singapore and beyond.

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach Newswire – 29 November 2024 – The Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) today launched the Intercontinental Alliance for Integrated Care (IAIC), a pioneering initiative uniting healthcare providers, social service agencies, academics, and policymakers worldwide. By fostering cross-border collaboration and knowledge sharing, the IAIC seeks to advance holistic patient-centred solutions that address the complex needs of ageing populations globally, along with challenges presented by chronic diseases.

The IAIC was officially launched at a gala dinner attended by Guest-of-Honour, Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Heng Swee Keat and over 200 guests, including IAIC founding members from overseas universities, senior representatives from healthcare and social service sectors as well as industry partners.

SUSS also signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with local community organisations St Luke’s ElderCare, TOUCH Community Services, and Tsao Foundation, as well as cloud computing company Alibaba Cloud, to deepen the university’s focus on integrated care.

The University has been an active champion in transforming integrated care in Singapore and aims to do more across the region. The launch of IAIC builds upon the collaborations initiated at the inaugural Integrated Care Learning Symposium (ICLS) in October 2023, which brought together seven key healthcare and social sector partners in Singapore to drive capability-building and talent development in integrated care.

These partnerships have led to the start of several projects to benefit the community.

Professor Tan Tai Yong, President, SUSS, said, “We are proud to launch the Intercontinental Alliance for Integrated Care, furthering our role as a connector and facilitator in transforming integrated care in Singapore and now, globally. The IAIC represents a powerful collaboration that brings together diverse expertise and perspectives from multiple players worldwide. We are excited to collaborate with our partners to bridge health and social care, making a real and positive impact on patients, especially older adults. By fostering cross-border collaboration, SUSS aims to shape a more inclusive future for healthcare that prioritises people above all else.”

Addressing global healthcare challenges with like-minded partners

With ageing populations and the rise of chronic diseases globally, there is a pressing need to deliver sustainable, patient-centred integrated care that prioritises the dignity, well-being and quality of life for older people worldwide.

The IAIC is committed to promoting integrated care through sharing best practices, fostering collaborative learning, developing innovative care strategies, driving research, and influencing policy.

Initiatives by IAIC will be grounded in five strategic themes:

1. Continuity of Care

  • Creating seamless transitions across healthcare settings.

2. Healthy Ageing

  • Focusing on preventive and early intervention strategies.

3. Digital Inclusion and Innovation

  • Leveraging technology to enhance care delivery.

4. Training and Capacity Building

  • Developing healthcare professionals’ competencies.

5. Governance and Economics

  • Establishing sustainable, scalable healthcare models.

Led by SUSS, the IAIC is supported by founding members from 13 leading universities across Asia, North America, and Europe, known for their expertise in the fields of healthcare, social sciences, and gerontology. By uniting like-minded partners from different continents, the IAIC will also bring a valuable Asian perspective to the forefront of global conversations on integrated care models.

The IAIC founding members are:

1. Singapore University of Social Sciences (Singapore) 2. Anglia Ruskin University (United Kingdom)
3. Chinese Institute for Healthy Ageing, Capital Medical University (China) 4. Chiang Mai Rajabhat University (Thailand)
5. Chulalongkorn University (Thailand) 6. The School of Nursing,
Hong Kong Polytechnic University
(Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China)
7. Newcastle University (United Kingdom) 8. Renmin University of China (China)
9. Royal Holloway, University of London (United Kingdom) 10. Simon Fraser University (Canada)
11. Universiti Brunei Darussalam (Brunei) 12. Edwin S.H. Leong Centre for Healthy Ageing,
University of British Columbia (Canada)
13. Sau Po Centre on Ageing,
University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China)

A steering committee, comprising representatives from the Alliance’s founding members, will define its strategic direction and drive impactful initiatives in integrated care.

Each country represented within the IAIC will also form local chapters to implement actionable programmes. This network of local chapters allows the IAIC to adapt its strategies to meet the unique cultural and social needs of various communities, making integrated care solutions more accessible and effective on the ground.

In Singapore, SUSS has partnered with St Luke’s ElderCare, TOUCH Community Services, and Tsao Foundation to establish local chapters that will translate the IAIC’s research into actionable community initiatives.

As Singapore approaches “super-aged” status by 2026, Tsao Foundation will focus on programmes targeted at eldercare and supporting mature workers, while St Luke’s ElderCare and TOUCH Community Services will focus on broader social care and community wellness efforts.

A new node for advancing integrated care

In addition to the network of local chapters, SUSS will establish a new node dedicated to supporting the IAIC’s mission of advancing integrated care. This node will serve as both an operational and research hub, translating global insights from the IAIC into practical, community-focused solutions.

By combining expertise, resources, and innovative strategies from SUSS, IAIC partners, and local chapters, the Alliance will develop integrated care models that address key gaps in Singapore’s healthcare and social care systems, with the goal of scaling these solutions regionally.

To support the cause, global digital payment solution provider UQPay and math contest organiser Singapore International Mastery Contests Centre (SIMCC) have donated S$100,000 and S$120,000 to SUSS respectively. During the gala dinner, Mr. Jack Li, CEO of UQPay Pte. Ltd. and Mr. Henry Ong, President of SIMCC Pte. Ltd. presented the donation cheques to SUSS President, Professor Tan. The funds will be directed toward initiatives aimed at improving community-based eldercare, fostering healthier ageing, and creating scalable models for integrated care solutions that benefit Singapore’s ageing population.

New Alibaba Cloud Prize Competition to drive digital innovation in integrated care

In partnership with Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, SUSS is also introducing the Alibaba Cloud Prize Competition. This competition aims to foster innovation in integrated care through cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI).

The competition is open to members of the IAIC and local chapters. Up to 50 participants will be selected to embark on a structured learning journey, culminating in the development of prototypes for cutting-edge AI-powered solutions to address challenges in integrated care.

Over the course of 4 to 6 months, participants will identify specific challenges within the integrated care space and design proposals that harness Alibaba Cloud’s infrastructure and AI tools. Their solutions will seek to drive meaningful advancements in healthcare delivery in integrated care.

The top three winning projects will receive exclusive professional development opportunities with Alibaba Cloud, including project support, skills training, and the chance to collaborate directly with leading industry experts. Additionally, outstanding projects with significant impact potential may have the opportunity to be further developed and incubated through SUSS’ new node for integrated care.

Financial Highlights

  • Revenue decreased by 25.6% to JPY9,814.5 million (equivalent to USD64.8 million), due to ongoing and intensified market competition, economic slowdown, and distribution adjustment.
  • Direct-to-Consumer channel grew by 6.5%, led by Japan and China whose DTC revenue rose by 5.4% and 10.0%, respectively.
  • Successful new product launch of BERES09; BERES golf clubs’ performance with 18.4% revenue growth in Japan and 49.4% growth in Southeast Asia.
  • Revenue from apparels increased by 6.1%, despite the weak consumer sentiment in China and a reduction in total number of stores.
  • Gross profit margin improved by 0.9 percentage points to 53.0%.
  • Net operation profit (non-IFRS) amounted to JPY 213.50 million.
  • Net operating cash flow remained positive and stood at JPY4,024.4 million (equivalent to USD26.6 million) for the six months ended 30 September 2024, recording an eight-year CAGR of 8.4%.

Major Achievements

For the six months ended 30 September 2024, HONMA steadfastly implemented its business strategies while carefully protecting its financial strength and cash flow. Since early 2023, the global golf industry has seen continued, downward adjustments in both the number of rounds played and purchase interest of golfers at different stages and across different markets. These developments echoed management’s decision to strengthen and streamline its product offering around two consumer segments, namely super-premium and premium-performance consumer segments. Despite market headwinds, HONMA’s direct-to-consumer channels and core product categories demonstrated resilience during the Period.

Focusing on Club Products that Best Represent Japanese Craftsmanship and World Standard Innovative Technology in Pursuit of Players in Super-Premium and Premium-Performance Segments

HONMA remains committed to applying cutting-edge technologies and artisan-style Japanese craftsmanship to the design, development, and manufacturing of a comprehensive range of exquisitely crafted and performance-driven golf clubs. HONMA applied several of its revolutionary proprietary technologies to the design and development of its latest BERES and TOUR WORLD products, designed for affluent and avid golfers. Following the launch of BERES 09 in early 2024, the Group gained additional penetration into the super-premium consumer segment, especially in Asia. Revenue from BERES golf clubs rose by 18.4% in Japan and by 49.4% in Southeast Asia. During the same period, Be ZEAL3, a product designed for golfers in the premium performance segment rose by 27 times. In addition, following the launch of several collections of SAKATA Lab putters in early 2024, sales of putters increased by 36.8% for the half year ended 30 September, reconfirming HONMA’s strong brand equity and its ability to cater to both affluent and avid golfers.

Accelerating Apparel Growth to Provide a Complete Golf Lifestyle Experience for Customers

Revenue from apparels increased by 6.1% YOY to JPY1,340.6million for the half year ended 30 September 2024. The profit margin of apparels increased by 29.1 percentage points to 57.3%. Despite weak consumer sentiment and a reduction in the total number of stores in mainland China, apparels sales continued its growth trajectory, achieving 15.9% YOY growth.

Improving Profitable Growth by Focusing on DTC Channels, Contributing 56.1% of Total Revenue

Self-operated stores continued to exhibit strong growth momentum, posting a steady increase of 6.5% for the six months ended 30 September 2024. This growth was driven by continued retail operational improvements in Japan and China (including Hong Kong and Macau), where retail sales grew by 5.4% and 10.0%, respectively. Revenue from third-party retailers and wholesalers decreased by 46.3% during the same period, primarily due to a decline in wholesale revenue from Japan, Korea, and China (including Hong Kong and Macau) as a result of economic slowdown and channel reshuffling in Korea. Revenue from e-commerce grew by 8.1%, with Japan increasing by 18.9% and mainland China by 5.8%. The rapid expansion of digital communications led to improvements in organic traffic, conversion rates, and other digital brand engagement metrics such as bounce rate and time on site, amongst others.

Strong Recovery in Europe and North America Following Channel Optimisation

Following past years’ distribution network optimisation, sales from Europe and North America rose by 92.4% and 23.5% from the six months ended 30 September 2023, respectively, while expanding their profitability.

North America and Europe account for more than 50% of the global golf market. During the six months ended 30 September 2024, HONMA continued to focus on a smaller but premier group of accounts in both markets while continuously implementing its unique direct-to-consumer communication and sales strategy. This direct-to-consumer communication and distribution approach overlays with HONMA’s existing wholesale points of sale and various digital platforms, allowing HONMA to effectively increase its brand and product awareness while owning the entire consumer experience and purchase journey.

Furthermore, the decision to differentiate the TOUR WORLD product offering between tour-inspired players and golfers seeking performance enhancements will significantly bolster HONMA’s growth strategy in North America, where the market has continued to rebound, with an increasing number of golfers gravitating towards premium-performance products.

Business Outlook

Moving forward, HONMA remains committed to its long-term vision of building a world-leading golf lifestyle company. The Group will continue to leverage its brand heritage while embracing innovation and digital transformation. Key focus areas include expanding market share in core markets through the super-premium and premium-performance segments, optimising distribution networks in North America and Europe, developing complementary non-club product lines, and maintaining product innovation that combines traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. HONMA will also continue strengthening its direct-to-consumer channels while enhancing operational efficiency across all markets.

Mr. LIU Jianguo, Chairman of the Board, President and Executive Director of HONMA Golf Limited, said: “During this period of market adjustment, HONMA has demonstrated its resilience by maintaining strong gross margins and growing our direct-to-consumer channels. Our strategic focus on the super-premium and premium-performance segments, combined with our enhanced digital capabilities and streamlined distribution network, positions us well for future growth. We remain committed to our heritage of Japanese craftsmanship while embracing innovation to meet the evolving needs of today’s golfers.”
