A comprehensive training program is currently underway to equip primary school teachers with the skills necessary to effectively teach the Lao language to non-Lao speaking students.

This initiative, known as the Spoken Lao Program, is a collaboration between the Ministry of Education and Sports and the Australian government, developed through the Basic Education Quality and Access in Laos (BEQUAL) project.

Since its introduction in 2019, the Spoken Lao Program has undergone extensive testing and refinement. The goal is to improve the language skills of children who start school without prior knowledge of Lao.

Tackling the growing need for effective language education, the program expanded to 21 districts in the 2023-2024 fiscal year, thanks in part to additional support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

To foster collaboration and gather insights, the Lao Research Institute for Education Science (RIES), under the Ministry of Education and Sports, organized a stakeholder forum for the Spoken Lao Program on 11 July. This event provided an opportunity to discuss the challenges teachers face in implementing the new curriculum, emphasizing the importance of ongoing support and resources for educators.

So far, over 14,500 teachers, principals, and support staff have participated in the training. The program covers a wide range of topics, including effective language teaching methods, support strategies, and hands-on practice with the Spoken Lao Program activities. This extensive training aims to equip teachers with the tools they need to succeed in their roles.

As part of their professional development, teachers are learning innovative techniques and utilizing various resources, such as instructional videos and a dedicated teacher support pack. These materials are designed to enhance their teaching effectiveness and provide clear guidance in the classroom.

Ultimately, the launch of the Spoken Lao Program seeks to ensure that all non-Lao speaking Grade 1 children receive the language support they need to thrive in school. This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Ministry of Education and Sports to improve the overall quality of education in Laos.

The “Shama” brand has seen continuous growth in recent years, aligning with the expanding serviced apartment market in Thailand and internationally. This growth reflects the increasing demand from travellers seeking long-term accommodation solutions. In response to this trend, the “Live Your Blended Life at Shama” campaign is launching to reaffirm Shama’s leadership in the serviced apartment market. The campaign highlights Shama’s deep understanding of its target audience, who seek accommodation that offers comfort and familiarity, becoming their second home.

Yuthachai Charanachitta, Chief Executive Officer of ONYX Hospitality Group, stated, “Shama has seen remarkable growth within the ONYX portfolio, achieving a 200% increase in Thailand over five years. In Hong Kong, Shama is the No. 1 international serviced apartments provider with 7 properties.”

He also said, “Currently, ONYX manages over 2,500 units under the Shama brand across 20 properties in Thailand, China, Hong Kong, and Malaysia. The brand’s performance has grown 3% above the target and more than 14% compared to the same period last year. Shama is also projected to generate 52% more revenue compared to pre-COVID-19 levels in 2019.”

Shama, a serviced apartment brand originally from Hong Kong, was acquired by ONYX Hospitality Group in 2010 and has since been expanding both in Thailand and internationally. In Thailand, there are 6 Shama serviced apartments, with an additional 7 in Hong Kong, 5 in China, and 2 in Malaysia. The Shama brand encompasses three distinct categories: “Shama Luxe,” “Shama,” and “Shama Hub.” Each offers unique features in room size, location, and décor to cater to a range of customer needs, from upper upscale to upper middle scale. ONYX Hospitality Group also plans to expand Shama Hub in Thailand, Shama Luxe in Malaysia, and Shama in Laos soon.

What sets Shama apart from other serviced apartments is its emphasis on room size. Shama offers spacious accommodations meticulously designed to meet the needs of various residents, from solo business travellers to large families seeking a second home for every family member. Additionally, Shama provides essential facilities for daily life, including 24-hour hotel-level care services for residents.

All Shama properties are situated in residential areas within city centres, surrounded by amenities and offering convenient travel options. Shama aims to promote a simple life in a new environment, making guests feel that Shama is a second home by providing comfort, happiness, and warmth with each stay.

To reinforce this concept, ONYX Hospitality Group has launched the “Live Your Blended Life” campaign, which showcases the multi-dimensional experience of living at Shama under the “Freedom to Explore” theme.

Another standout feature of the campaign is the Shama Social Club, a lifestyle programme crafted to connect guests through a variety of activities. It nurtures a sense of belonging and strengthens guests’ connections with the local community and the surroundings. This programme provides meticulously curated activities that unite guests from diverse backgrounds, fostering meaningful bonds among residents.

As part of the “Live Your Blended Life” campaign, three exclusive Shama Social Club activities will be introduced monthly. From October to December 2024, these activities will reflect the three main concepts of blending the right moments in life:

  • The Explorecation (explore + vacation) activity will take place in October, featuring a Floating Sound Bath experience. Guests will have the opportunity to relax and unwind with soothing sounds by the pool in a tranquil atmosphere.
  • The Workshopping (work + shopping) activity, scheduled for November, will feature a Personal Color Workshop. This session will help guests understand their unique colour profiles and use this knowledge to select work clothes that enhance their confidence and appearance in a new environment.
  • The Foodventure (food + adventure) activity, happening in December, will feature a Taste of Life event. Guests will embark on a bike tour through the historic city of Bangkok, sampling local flavors and learning photography tips to capture the vibrant experiences, adding a touch of delight and fun to their lives.

“In addition to its prime location and excellent facilities, the Shama Social Club, a lifestyle programme of the Shama brand, will elevate the living experience by fostering connections, familiarity, and integration with surroundings and the local community. This programme is designed to make guests feel welcomed and at home from their very first visit, ensuring they adapt quickly and comfortably to their new environment,” said Yuthachai.

Vinpearl’s Multi-Experience Resorts: A “Back to Nature” Experience That’s Anything But Boring

In today’s fast-paced world, the desire to reconnect with nature is stronger than ever. Vinpearl, Vietnam’s premier hospitality brand, recognizes this need and has curated a collection of luxurious resorts that seamlessly blend biophilic design with world-class amenities.

HANOI, VIETNAM – Media OutReach Newswire – 18 September 2024 – In an increasingly developed world, where experiences are often neatly packaged for convenience, it can feel like a chore to have a truly “real” experience with nature. The concrete jungle, while having its own allure, can leave us yearning for the raw, untamed beauty of the natural world. This innate tendency to reconnect with nature, or biophilia, is more than just a passing trend; it’s a deep-seated human need.

Vinpearl Luxury Nha Trang
Vinpearl Luxury Nha Trang

And this need is also shaping the travel industry. Research suggests that time spent in nature offers a multitude of health benefits, including lowering blood pressure, improving immune system function, and reducing levels of stress hormones. It is, therefore, no surprise that immersing oneself in the natural world has become one of the most sought-after ways for 1.3 billion inbound tourists to relax and rejuvenate.

The World Economic Forum’s Travel and Tourism Development Index 2024 (TDDI) reveals a notable trend: Tripadvisor pageviews have become increasingly concentrated on a country’s most popular natural and cultural attractions since 2021, when Covid-19 is forcing people to stay inside. This underscores the growing allure of nature tourism, a cornerstone of biophilia, which generates more than $600 billion in revenue globally.

Vinpearl: Embracing the Nature Tourism Trend

Vinpearl, Vietnam’s leading hospitality brand, has strategically embraced the growing desire for nature-based experiences. With over 45 properties spanning 17 provinces and cities, it offers a diverse portfolio encompassing luxurious accommodations, world-class entertainment, and immersive nature encounters.

Take, for instance, Vinpearl Nha Trang, situated on the picturesque Hon Tre Island. It offers more than just breathtaking ocean views. The resort’s expansive 36,000 square meter diving area, teeming with over 50 species of fish and more than 4,800 vibrant coral reefs, provides an idyllic setting for guests to marvel at the ocean’s beauty and engage in thrilling water sports. From snorkeling and scuba diving amidst the coral reefs to capturing underwater memories through photography and kayaking through the crystal-clear waters, Vinpearl Nha Trang offers an unforgettable aquatic adventure.

Another nature-based Vinpearl attraction is Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc, where the wild roams free. As Vietnam’s first semi-wild zoo, Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc has become a haven for those seeking an immersive wildlife experience. Visitors can witness the majesty of nature firsthand as they embark on a “caged human, free animal” journey, where the roles are reversed, and the animals roam freely while humans observe from the safety of specialized vehicles.

“Encounters with bears, tigers, lions, and other animals blocking the vehicles are a common occurrence in the semi-wild zone. It’s this unique ‘specialty’ that excites every visitor, as they never know what awaits them on their journey,” said Tran Hoang Huy, a safari guide.

With the largest scale in Southeast Asia, Vinpearl Safari offers visitors from all over the world a rare space to explore nature and an ideal living space for nearly 4,000 creatures of 200 species – including about 40 endangered species, a diverse plant ecosystem with 1,200 species. In 2024, Vinpearl Safari was recognized by the Worldkings World Record Alliance as “The most diverse island safari with the largest number of animal individuals in the world”.

These two are just prime examples of Vinpearl’s dedication to satisfying travelers’ tendencies to seek nature.

Commitment to Green and Sustainable Tourism

Vinpearl’s dedication to providing immersive nature experiences is complemented by a strong commitment to environmental sustainability and green practices. This dedication manifests in several initiatives implemented throughout their properties.

To reduce its carbon footprint, Vinpearl actively pursues energy conservation. This is achieved through the use of energy-efficient technologies and practices such as harnessing solar power, employing LED lighting, and implementing smart energy management systems.

Additionally, the company also prioritizes waste reduction and management. Vinpearl has implemented comprehensive programs that encompass recycling, composting, and minimizing single-use plastics, thus safeguarding the environment and conserving valuable resources.

Water conservation is also a key focus, including initiatives such as rainwater harvesting, implementing closed-loop wastewater treatment systems that adhere to international standards, and employing various other resource-saving solutions.

These comprehensive efforts toward sustainability have garnered recognition from various organizations. Notably, Vinpearl Resort & Spa Ha Long was honored with the prestigious ASEAN Green Hotel Standard in 2019, a testament to its unwavering commitment to sustainable tourism practices. By prioritizing responsible tourism and actively working to minimize its ecological footprint, Vinpearl is ensuring that future generations can continue to revel in the wonders of Vietnam’s natural landscapes.

In a world where genuine experiences with nature can be elusive, Vinpearl offers a refreshing alternative. By combining luxurious accommodations with immersive nature-based activities, Vinpearl provides a truly unique and unforgettable vacation experience. Whether you seek adventure, relaxation, or a deeper connection to the natural world, Vinpearl’s multi-experience resorts have something to offer every traveler.
