The Lao Ministry of Education and Sports and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam have agreed to exchange and boost their young sportsmen and women so that they are more competitive at the regional and international levels.Working in cooperation, the two ministries will be focused on exchanging sports and acrobatic frameworks in target regions as well as the Lao-Vietnam border areas.
They are also arranging for human resource development in sports, training new athletes, coaches and referees.
The two sides will continue to improve the National Sports Training Centre in Naxaithong district, Vientiane, seeking to upgrade the centre to become a sports-acrobatic institution in Laos.
A memorandum of understanding signing ceremony to launch the five-year project took place recently in Vietnam, inked by Lao Minister of Education and Sports, Ms Sengdeuane Lachanthaboun and her counterpart from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam.
During the meetings of the two ministries, they have reviewed cooperation in the education and sports sectors, especially exchanges between Lao and Vietnamese students and teachers.
Meanwhile they also have discussed granting extra scholarships for Lao and Vietnamese students to study in each others’ countries.
They will upgrade the learning-teaching courses and arrange several essential subjects to link the demands of socio-economic development in the region.
Officials noted that most of the students have selected the subjects of business management, finance and banking.
Thus, the two ministries have agreed to improve suitable subjects according to demands of society, such as offering Lao and Vietnamese language subjects to create new translators and interpreters.
In the near future, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam will hold Vietnamese language training for officials in Laos so as to assist their collaborative work.
The ministry will also build a new Lao-Vietnam friendship school in Savannakhet province, as well as refurbish existing schools and student dormitories at the National University of Laos which are supported by the Vietnamese government.
The Vietnamese government recently provided more than 1.4 billion kip (4 billion Vietnamese Dong) to construct new primary school buildings in Phin district, Savannakhet province for the construction of two school buildings which include five fully equipped classrooms, an office and toilets.
The project, scheduled for completion by October this year, is expected to boost rural development aligning with Laos’ three builds devolution directive.
The new school buildings will be very useful for local communities by reducing crowding for teachers and students and developing the education sector more generally in the region.
The support will contribute directly to human resources development in Laos, especially in Savannakhet province, a key focus of the government’s socio-economic development plan.
