ASEAN senior officials yesterday held the final discussions on preparations for the 28th and 29th ASEAN Summits and related summits, and relevant activities which will be convened from September 6-8 in Vientiane.
The ASEAN Senior Officials Preparatory Meeting was chaired by Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office and the ASEAN SOM Leader for the Lao PDR, Mr. Alounkeo Kittikhoun.
In attendance were the ASEAN SOM Leaders, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for the ASEAN Community and delegates at the National Convention Centre in Vientiane.
During the meeting, preparations for the ASEAN Summits were discussed as well as other summits such as the Signing Ceremony on the Accession of Chile, Egypt and Morocco to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.
The related meetings also include the 14th ASEAN Political Security Community Council Meeting, the 18th ASEAN Coordinating Council Meeting, the ASEAN Leaders Interface with Representatives of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Meeting and ASEAN Youth and ASEAN Business Advisory Council.
Also set to be convened are the 1st ASEAN-Australia Biennial Summit, the 19th ASEAN-China summit to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of ASEAN-China Dialogue Relations; the 4th ASEAN-United States summit, the 18th ASEAN-Japan Summit, the 18th ASEAN-Republic of Korean Summit, the 8th ASEAN-United Nations Summit, the 14th ASEAN-India summit, the 19th ASEAN Plus three Summit, and the 11th East Asia Summit.
Importantly, the ASEAN SOM Leaders endorsed the tentative programme of activities, list of indicative topics, and outcome documents of the 28th and 29th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits.
