VIENTIANE – The First Beidou Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) was officially inaugurated at Saysettha Development Zone in Laos’ capital Vientiane on Friday.
The Beidou CORS will provide high-precision navigation, positioning and time services for Laos’ activities of navigation and surveillance, engineering surveying, urban and rural construction, meteorology and disaster response, among others, said Li Weisen, Deputy Director General of National Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation of China at the inauguration ceremony.
This also promotes Beidou’s mission of global sharing of resources, Li said, adding that the National Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation of China will work with the Lao side for mutually beneficial cooperation.
With the supports of Chinese government, the Beidou CORS are expected to help bring Laos’ mapping and geographic information industry to reach international level, serve all sectors and promote socio-economic development of Laos, according to Bouasoth Souvannakoumane, Director General of National Geographic Department under Laos’ Ministry of Home Affairs.
This is another example of Laos-China cooperation, Bouasoth added.
As many as 40 Beidou CORSs are planned to be built in Laos, including six in capital Vientiane.
