Xieng Khuang Keen to Export Aroma Rice to Brunei

This Week

Talking with visiting Brunei Ambassador to Laos Na’aim Salleh on Oct 19, Xieng Khuang Governor Somkot Mangnormek expressed the eagerness of his province to export 1,700 tonnes of aroma rice grown in Mok district to Brunei.

Some Aroma rice is currently being exported to Vietnam.

“While some amount of the rice is exported, mostly in paddy or husk form to Vietnam, Xieng Khuang people tend to import milled rice from Vietnam because it is cheaper than locally grown rice,” said an unnamed official of the Agriculture and Forestry Department of Xieng Khuang Province.

The provincial governor also briefed the visiting ambassador on the socio-economic development in Xieng Khuang and its priorities including reducing poverty, promoting commercial production by local people, fulfilling the sustainable development goals (SDGs), and continuing to clear the province of unexploded ordnance (UXOs).

The ambassador expressed to the governor the interest of Brunei in investing in the raising of cattle and the farming of sugar cane in Xieng Khuang Province.
