Laos has confirmed 260 new cases of Covid-19 today, bringing the total number of cases to 8,392.
Dr. Lattanaxay Phetsouvanh led the briefing by the National Taskforce, saying that 3,225 tests had been conducted over the past 24 hours.
Eighteen new community cases were found across the country, with two in Xayaboury, 15 in Bokeo, and one in Champasack.
A further 242 imported cases were confirmed, including 119 in Savannakhet, 93 in Champasack, 26 in Vientiane Capital, three in Bolikhamxay, and one in Xayaboury.
The country has confirmed eight deaths after a new death was confirmed in Champasack yesterday.
Dr. Sommana Lattana spoke during the briefing giving details about the death, saying a 76-year-old man had passed away
The man, a laborer, was registered as living in Houayhong Village, Chanthabouly District, Vientiane Capital, however had moved to Champasack Province with his family.
He was admitted to hospital in Champsack on 4 August at 2 pm after losing consciousness and the ability to speak, following headaches and vomiting.
CT scans and other tests were conducted, and it was found that the man had a blood clot in his brain, and had suffered from hypertension for five years but had never taken medication.
Dr. Sommana said that his family proposed moving the man to Vientiane Capital for further treatment, however, as doctors were preparing to move him, they conducted a Covid-19 test and found results to be positive.
He was given treatment for Covid-19, hypertension, and blood clot, however, his condition worsened.
On 7 August the man passed away in hospital in Champasack Province at 4:30 pm.
