Nam ngum 4 Hydropower in Xieng Khouang.

The Nam Ngum 4 Hydropower Project in Xieng Khouang province is now 90% complete, valued at over USD 760 million.

KPL reports that Xieng Khouang, Vice Governor, Mr. Bouangneun Houmayaphom, made an inspection visit of the hydropower installation in early May.

During his trip, Governor Bouanguen visited two affected districts to ensure local people have a sound understanding of political theory, government policy and law.

On this occasion, Mr. Khamsai Latsasima, Head of the Nam Ngum 4 Hydropower Project, said that the project has been handed over to Electricité du Laos (EDU) for completion of construction and the operations of the dam.

He said the project constructing Nam ngum Hydropower cost more than USD 760 million which the dam will generate 872 GWH a year.

The government approved the construction of the project by local company VLV Xoumphonphakdy in Paek District, Xieng Khouang Province, in 2014.

Construction of the project required the resettlement of local villagers, with compensation negotiation still underway.

Villagers’ homes were swept away in massive floods when the saddle dam at the Xe Pian-Xenam Noy hydropower project collapsed after heavy rains in July 2018, leaving 40 people dead and thousands living in emergency shelters.
