Vientiane Province Closes Tourist Sites Around Nam Ngum Reservoir

Tourism sites around the Nam Ngum Reservoir will be closed to visitors for 18 months due to a development project in Keooudom District, Vientiane Province. 

According to a notice issued by the Vientiane Province Department of Information, Culture, and Tourism, the area will be closed to visitors from 6 May as works begin.

The boat pier, hotels, and other facilities on the Nam Ngum Reservoir near Thalat, Keooudom District, Vientiane Province, will be closed for the next 18 months as the entire area is being redeveloped.

A 2019 project by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) provided USD 47 million for infrastructure development in Vang Vieng District and around the Nam Ngum Reservoir to spur the growth of tourism in Vientiane Province, Vientiane Times reports

After the project is completed, businesses and services will be allowed to reopen. 

Dansavanh Nam Ngum Resort and Sanctuary Resort will remain open. 

The construction project to develop the Marina site has been awarded to Khamfong Group.
