Agro-Forestry Development Consultant (AFDC) in Vientiane Capital has extended a project in the Nongkhamsean Wetland to protect biodiversity, sustain ecology, and increase ecotourism.
Vientiane Times reported that the Director of AFDC, Mr. Souvanhpheng Phommasane, and the Deputy Director of the Vientiane Agriculture and Forestry Department, Mr. Vatsana Sichaleuang, signed an agreement to extend the project.
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has obtained financing from USAID to support this program, which is being carried out by AFDC in collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and other agriculture and forestry departments.
The third phase of the project will run from October of this year through October of next year, with a budget of USD 81,100.
The project will support biodiversity conservation and the rehabilitation of bird habitats, as well as people’s livelihoods, in six villages surrounding the Nongkhamsean Wetland in Vientiane’s Hadxaifong district.
The Noungkamsean Wetland is located in Hadxayfong district, some 20 kilometers southwest of Vientiane. Six communities share the wetland: Sithan Tai, Khokxai, Xaifong Tai, Xaifong Neua, Thakhek, and Thinphea.
