Cambodia Wins World’s Best Rice Award for the Fifth Time

This Week

Cambodia’s Phka Romduol rice has received the World’s Best Rice 2022 Award at the World Rice Conference (WRC).

Cambodian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), Dith Tina, told Khmer Times that the Cambodian premium fragrant rice won the award for the fifth time in 2022 in its rice industry history.

“The world would recognize more about our country through the award as the producer of the best quality of rice in the world. Cambodian rice is very delicious with great smell for both supplying domestic market and exporting to other markets in the rest of the world,” said the minister.

On Thursday last week, sixty varieties of rice from all over the world were invited to take part in the competition in Phuket, Thailand.

Alongside Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam, Homsavanh white rice from Laos was among the top contenders for the first time in the competition, said Lao Youth Radio FM 90.0 Mhz.

The rice was judged by a group of professional chefs who evaluated its quality based on the appearance, aroma, and flavor of the cooked grain in the competition.
