The Lao Esports Federation team was placed third in the Dota 2 competition at the International Esports Federation (IESF) 14th World Esports Championship 2022 in Bali, Indonesia on Saturday.
Twenty-nine countries from Asia, South America, Europe, and Africa participated in the competition which offered a winning prize money of USD 100,000.
Through the various rounds of the competition, the team ranked in second place and qualified for the playoffs round.
According to the Lao Esports Federation, the team lost in the semi-finals, which made them finish in third place. But this was still a historic achievement for Lao Esports on the international scene.
Five Lao participants received bronze medals and a winning prize of USD 20,000 in the competition.
Dota 2 is a multiplayer online battle arena video game from American video game developer Valve. The game is a sequel to Defense of the Ancients, a community-created mod for Blizzard Entertainment’s Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos.
