Laos to Be Under Cold Weather During First Week of January

According to the Meteorology and Hydrology Department, Northern and Southern provinces of Laos will be subjected to cold conditions from Wednesday until 10 January, some areas may also experience rainfall.

Northern provinces such as Phongsaly and Houaphanh are expected to have relatively cold weather with thick fog in certain regions, while Xieng Khouang will experience high winds and dense fog. Temperatures will range from 6 to 26 degrees.

The cold weather will be accompanied by thin to heavy fog in the northwest provinces of Luang Namtha, Bokeo, Oudomxay, Luang Prabang, and Xayaboury, with temperatures varying from 8 to 30 degrees.

Vientiane Capital will be the warmest compared to the other cities. In the morning, there will be some fog, some warmth in the afternoon, and wind in the evening. The temperature will range between 16 and 31 degrees.

The other central provinces, on the other hand, will see high winds, fog, and grey clouds. This includes Vientiane prefecture, Bolikhamxay, Savannakhet, and Khammouane, where temperatures will range from 16 to 31 degrees.

Rainfall, thunderstorms, high winds, and an overcast sky are expected in southern provinces such as Champasack, Sekong, and Attapeu.

The weather department has urged residents in these provinces to prepare themselves for cold-wave conditions.
