Vientiane authorities have detained 30 young adults and teenagers following two separate operations in Xaysettha district targeting disorderly conduct and illegal drug use.
The first operation was launched on 12 March after residents in Nongnineng village reported a group of youths, aged between 15 and their early 20s, gathering and causing disturbances in the area. Police investigated, arrested 11 members of the group, and seized two homemade weapons.
A follow-up operation on 16 March brought authorities to Mouangnoy village, where another group had gathered late at night for a birthday celebration. Despite prior warnings, the party continued with loud music until between 4:00 and 5:00 AM, disturbing nearby residents.
Police detained 19 individuals and confiscated a number of drug-related items, including Kratom juice, drug-laced collagen products, and Ketamine.
Investigations into both incidents confirmed that those involved had been consuming illegal substances and playing excessively loud music in residential areas, in violation of public order regulations.
Authorities drew a clear distinction in how cases will be handled based on age. Those aged 18 and above found to have engaged in drug use or criminal activity will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
First-time offenders who are minors will not face criminal charges and have instead been referred to village authorities for educational counselling and guidance.
