The Electricité du Laos (EDL) has begun a three-day schedule of daytime power interruptions affecting multiple villages and public facilities in Vientiane Capital, running from 24 to 26 April.
According to a notice issued on 22 April, the outages are necessary to facilitate maintenance, infrastructure upgrades, equipment installation, and electricity pole relocation in different parts of the capital.
The series got underway today, 24 April, in the Kaysone Phomvihane Road corridor, where residents and establishments around Nongbone village are facing a five-hour interruption from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The cut is necessary to facilitate the installation of new electricity equipment.
Affected locations include Nongbone and Phakhao villages, Sengkeo Hotel, the International Cooperation and Training Center (ICTC), the Laos-Vietnam Friendship School, the State Inspection Authority, and Nongnieng village, and surrounding areas.
The disruption extends into the weekend, with Chanthabouly district set to bear the lengthiest outage of the series.
On Saturday, 25 April, power will be suspended from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, a nine-hour cut, to allow crews to relocate 18 electricity poles in support of ongoing road construction works in the Phontong station area. Households and offices affected will include Phontong Savath and Phontong Chommany villages, the Chanthabouly District Police Office, the Chanthabouly District Finance Office, and Souvanny Home Center.
The schedule concludes on Sunday, 26 April, also from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, when crews will carry out equipment replacement and new electrical installation works in Sibounhueang and Hongkaikeo villages.
