The Ministry of Health has deployed over 290 technical staff to safeguard athletes, officials, and spectators at the 12th National Games in Vientiane, ensuring public health standards are maintained throughout the event.
Six specialised teams have been established to oversee all aspects of medical care and safety.
The Secretariat Team cis responsible for coordinating operations, managing patient transfers, and overseeing emergency transport to major hospitals, including Mahosot, Police, Military 103, Mittaphab, and Setthathirath. It also maintains constant communication with medical posts at competition venues to enable rapid responses to emergencies.
The Medical Treatment Team will provide onsite care, triaging patients by severity: critical cases routed through the black zone for urgent intervention or hospital transfer; moderate cases handled in the yellow zone; and minor ailments treated in the red zone.
Environmental and Food Safety officers are inspecting food quality, drinking water, sanitation systems, waste management practices, and pest control measures at athletes’ accommodations and hotels, ensuring compliance with national standards.
Meanwhile, the Communicable Disease Surveillance Team is monitoring for signs of outbreaks and enforcing preventive measures, including handwashing stations, temperature checks, and hygiene controls at venues.
The 12th National Games officially opened on 15 November at the National Stadium in Vientiane, with President Thongloun Sisoulith presiding over the ceremony.
Running until 25 November, the Games feature 33 sports, 4,065 athletes, and a total of 1,563 medals. Organizers said improvements to venues, accommodation, transport, and health measures are aimed at promoting sport, national unity, and talent development across Laos.
