US Embassy Celebrates Decades of Partnership at Grand Alumni Gala in Vientiane

This Week

More than 200 distinguished alumni of U.S. government exchange programs gathered in Vientiane on 26 September for a Grand Alumni Gala commemorating Freedom 250, the US Embassy’s year-long celebration of 250 years of American independence.

The evening celebrated the enduring contributions of Lao leaders, entrepreneurs, and scholars whose participation in US exchange programs continues to drive bilateral ties, and connections with American institutions and businesses.

US Chargée d’affaires Michelle Y. Outlaw emphasized the vital role exchange alumni play in advancing shared regional goals and strengthening economic resilience.

“As we commemorate Freedom 250 – 250 years since America’s independence – we celebrate the American spirit of opportunity and innovation, and the alumni who carry it forward here in Lao PDR,” she said. “Our alumni build professional networks, open doors for American businesses, and strengthen the US-Lao PDR relationship.”

The event recognized alumni who have applied their exchange experience to promote entrepreneurship, build economic ties, and expand partnerships with American companies, universities, and communities.

Their achievements show the lasting value of American education and training.

By reconnecting alumni across generations and programs, the event strengthened a network of partners who value American expertise and support stronger commercial and people-to-people ties with the United States and a more secure and a prosperous future for both nations.
