The Ministry of Planning and Investment has denied the company from continuing its work due to multiple delays.
KPL reports that the ministry will select a new developer to continue working on the Vang Vieng-Luang Prabang expressway and Luang Prabang-Oudomxay expressway.
After completing the 136.9-kilometer stretch from Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang, the new developer will extend the road another 113.9 kilometers to Oudomxay.
Yunnan Construction and Investment Holding Group Company, a Chinese construction developer, was asked to construct expressways from Vientiane to China in 2018.
The company has conducted feasibility studies and signed contracts with the government, but the construction of the three expressways remains incomplete, according to KPL.
Yunnan Construction will continue to develop the expressway from Oudomxay to Bohan-Boten (Laos-China border) but the Vang Vieng-Luang Prabang and Luang Prabang-Oudomxay expressway construction has been taken off their hands.
The government also approved the construction of the expressway linking Bokeo to Boten in 2021 with a construction value of USD 3.8 billion.
The completion dates of the three expressways are yet to be revealed.
