Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue welcomed outgoing Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Sengphet Houngboungnuang in Hanoi, Vietnam on Thursday.
Vuong praised Ambassador Sengphet for his significant contributions to the bilateral relations between the two nations, and parties, despite complex developments in the region, as well as in the world during the Covid-19 pandemic, according to Vietnam News.
Ambassador Sengphet was praised for promoting substantive, and fruitful ties between the National Assembly of Laos and Vietnam, especially in the activities marking the countries’ Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022.
The Lao Ambassador thanked the Vietnamese government and people for continuously supporting and assisting Laos in the past and for today’s national development efforts.
The Vietnamese NA has also expressed its readiness in supporting and sharing experience with Laos to successfully host the 1st Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Parliamentary Summit in December, under the theme “The role of Parliament in promoting comprehensive cooperation between Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam,” along with the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-45) in October next year.
The NAs of Laos and Vietnam have maintained frequent mutual visits at all levels while sharing experiences in institutional building, socio economic development, and defense-security safeguarding.
This year marked the 61st Anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic relationship between the two neighboring nations.
The Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and the Laos-Vietnam fighting alliance led to the signing of the International Agreement on the Neutrality of Laos on 23 July, 1962, recognizing Laos’ independence and sovereignty. Two months on, Vietnam and Laos signed an agreement on diplomatic relations on September 5, 1962.
