Global Times: China’s silver economy unleashes diversified opportunities, fueling growth of multiple sectors

BEIJING, Sept. 22, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — China is actively addressing the challenges of an aging population. As the senior population grows and their spending habits evolve, the silver economy is emerging as a driver of economic growth and industrial development. From optimizing consumption patterns to expanding emerging industries, from applying smart technologies to improving medical and elderly care services, the silver economy is becoming a new engine propelling multiple sectors forward.

Younger seniors are the main force in China’s silver economy, and their consumption needs are becoming increasingly diverse. From the perspective of the current population structure, a prominent feature of China’s aging is the large share of seniors aged 60 to 70, who generally enjoy good health and active lifestyles. This has expanded the silver economy beyond traditional necessities like food, clothing, and housing, revealing its broader consumption potential.

Many retirees devote their time to hobbies and cultural pursuits, such as learning photography, painting, or musical instruments, and engaging actively on online platforms by creating videos or hosting livestreams. These changes satisfy seniors’ spiritual and cultural needs, injecting new vitality into industries such as cultural education, leisure tourism, and healthcare.

The tourism sector offers an example. Unlike younger travelers who usually vacation during peak periods, seniors have flexible schedules and prioritize comfort and cultural experiences. They increasingly favor slower-paced, in-depth trips. This shift is prompting the tourism industry to move away from “fast-paced sightseeing” toward “slow-life experiences,” driving the creation of products and itineraries designed specifically for seniors.

The consumption upgrade in China’s silver economy is driving industrial upgrade, with quality and personalization emerging as key factors. As income levels rise and consumption mind-sets evolve, seniors are increasingly demanding higher-quality and more personalized products. For instance, dietary needs among the elderly are becoming more differentiated. In the future, restaurants will need to provide healthy and functional meals tailored to the specific health conditions of different seniors. This will raise standards in the food services sector while opening vast opportunities in niche markets.

Similar trends are evident in clothing and daily-use products. In the past, senior apparel focused primarily on warmth and practicality, but now there is growing demand for products that balance age-appropriateness with style. Product design needs to take into account fall-prevention features, lightweight yet warm materials, and a balance between comfort and simplicity. It is clear that the senior products market is shifting from merely meeting basic needs to enhancing overall quality of life.

As seniors become more comfortable with digital technologies, they are emerging as an important user group for new digital applications. Many are now adept in using smartphones and are even active on short-video and livestreaming platforms. At the same time, age-related declines in vision and hearing have made their demand for smart, age-friendly products even more pronounced.

This trend is driving innovation in related products and services, such as voice-controlled home appliances, smart health trackers, caregiving robots, and intelligent kitchen devices. In the future, home modifications and the adaptation of smart devices for seniors are expected to become a significant market. Technological advances make life more convenient and safer for the elderly and open up broad opportunities for related industries.

Although the proportion of those over 80 is currently not very high, the structure is expected to change significantly over time. In the future, seniors in this age group are projected to make up a larger portion of the elderly population. At that point, healthcare, nursing, and wellness services will become core growth areas of the silver economy.

This means industries such as senior living facilities, medical and nursing care, rehabilitation equipment, and health management will continue to expand over the coming decades. Demand is also expected to rise for functional foods, wellness and preventive care services, and traditional Chinese medicine-based health management, driven by the high prevalence of chronic diseases and growing health awareness among seniors.

Promoting the high-quality development of the silver economy meets the increasingly diverse needs of seniors while fostering new industries and markets, driving overall consumption and industrial upgrading. From cultural and recreational consumption to healthcare, from educational and tourism activities to smart elderly care, and from age-friendly home adaptations to functional food innovation, the silver economy is unlocking new growth opportunities across multiple sectors.

Global Times: China’s silver economy: innovation, dignity, and shared opportunities

BEIJING, Sept. 22, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — China’s silver economy is not only transforming the lives of its senior citizens but also reshaping the global conversation about how societies should respond to demographic change. With medium-speed growth in per capita consumption, the scale of China’s silver economy is projected to reach 19.1 trillion yuan ($2.68 trillion) by 2035, accounting for nearly 28 percent of total consumption, according to the Fudan Institute on Aging. Far from being a passive challenge, aging in China is being actively turned into a source of innovation, new industries, and international cooperation. This approach reflects the capacity of Chinese society to translate demographic shifts into opportunities for shared prosperity and human dignity.

As of the end of 2024, China’s population of those 60 years old and above exceeded 310 million, making up 22 percent of the total population, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. This unprecedented scale is matched by equally unprecedented demand across clothing, food, housing, transportation, healthcare, and eldercare. Yet what makes China stand out is not merely the numbers, but the way in which seniors themselves are redefining consumption. The new generation of elderly Chinese are no longer satisfied with survival-oriented spending; they are seeking development-oriented consumption, particularly in healthcare, health management, and leisure travel. This has catalyzed the rise of entire new industries, from smart health services and wearable devices to senior-friendly tourism and lifestyle products.

Technological innovation lies at the heart of this transformation. At the World Robot Conference, Chinese firms showcased eldercare robots capable of delivering meals, providing companionship, and assisting with daily routines. These are not prototypes – they are already in hospitals, nursing homes, and private residences. What is more, China has taken the lead in formulating the world’s first international standard for eldercare robots, demonstrating its ability to shape global rules rather than simply adapt to them. In the context of an aging society intertwined with rapid digitalization, new quality productive forces and information technology are injecting fresh momentum into the silver economy. This combination of social need and technological capability is uniquely Chinese, blending policy foresight with entrepreneurial energy.

The integration of dignity and comfort into everyday life is another hallmark of China’s silver economy. Enterprises have launched train carriages designed specifically for senior travelers, equipped with softer lighting, accessible bathrooms, grab bars, call buttons, and on-board medical staff. Entertainment, schedules, and meals are adapted to senior needs, making these trains not just a form of transport but a space for cultural participation and community. More than 1 million passengers have already joined such journeys, reflecting how deeply this innovation resonates with seniors and their families. It demonstrates that the silver economy is not only about extending life, but about ensuring the quality of life.

Meanwhile, consumer behavior underscores the growing sophistication of senior demand. Older Chinese are actively investing in wellness, premium nutrition, education courses, and lifestyle services. They are shaping markets for footwear, imported food, and digital health applications, pushing companies to innovate and diversify. This dynamic is not limited to domestic consumption; it opens up avenues for trade, technology cooperation, and industrial collaboration globally.

International businesses are finding opportunities in China’s senior market, while Chinese innovations in smart homes, wearable devices, and digital care models are being shared worldwide. The implications for employment and growth are profound. Experts estimate that the silver economy could create 100 million jobs by 2050. These jobs span from high-tech research and manufacturing to services in hospitality, wellness, and eldercare, providing opportunities across skill levels. This underlines how demographic shifts, if managed wisely, can become engines of inclusive development rather than sources of social strain.

Beyond economics, China’s approach also strengthens social harmony. By investing in seniors’ welfare and creating supportive infrastructures, the state demonstrates its long-term commitment to the people. This builds cohesion, trust, and stability. Where others see crisis, China sees a chance to reaffirm the values of respect, solidarity, and shared responsibility.

Crucially, the silver economy also expands the scope for international cooperation. As demand for healthcare, smart technologies, and eldercare services grows, China is eager to partner with other countries in trade, research, and policy exchanges. This open, cooperative spirit means that China’s experience can benefit the world, offering models of how to combine innovation with inclusivity. Countries facing similar demographic challenges can learn from China’s proactive strategies, while China benefits from shared expertise and diversified collaboration. It is a mutually beneficial path in line with the broader vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind.

China’s silver economy demonstrates that aging is not an inevitable drag on growth but a chance to open new chapters of innovation, human development, and cooperation. It reflects the Chinese ability to integrate technological progress with the cultural values of dignity, respect, and harmony. As the silver wave rises, China is not simply adapting – it is leading, and in doing so, showing the world that demographic change can be a foundation for prosperity, resilience, and common progress.

Unleash Your Tennis: Aceii One, the AI Hitting Partner That Trains, Teaches, and Competes

HONG KONG, Sept. 22, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — For tennis players, one of the toughest challenges isn’t the sport itself—it’s finding the right partner, keeping up consistent practice, and affording quality coaching. Aceii One, the world’s first AI-powered tennis hitting partner, is here to change that.

Aceii One — Carry-on suitcase design with 2-in-1 ball bag & container
Aceii One — Carry-on suitcase design with 2-in-1 ball bag & container

Developed by robotics and sports-tech startup Aceii, Aceii One is more than a ball machine. It’s designed as a true on-court companion: a partner that rallies, a coach that guides, and a competitor that challenges.

A Partner Always Ready to Play

Unlike traditional machines that simply feed balls, Aceii One moves dynamically along the baseline, tracking shots and returning them with rhythm. Players can enjoy human-like rallies, sharpen their skills through progressive drills, or step into gamified match play with real scoring and challenges.

Coaching, Training, Competition in One

  • Interactive Coaching: Structured courses filmed with professional coaches, paired with AI feedback that adapts to each player’s level.
  • Creative Drills: Practice modes ranging from deep/short alternation to cruising baseline patterns, designed to build precision and stamina.
  • Gamified Competition: Challenge, Battle, and Ranking modes transform repetition into real competition, giving players goals and progression.

Built for Real Courts

Aceii One pairs advanced AI with smart hardware:

  • Dual-camera vertical stereo vision for precise ball & player tracking in all light conditions.
  • Two-stage acceleration system enabling 0.5s feed intervals and speeds up to 80 mph.
  • Differential dual-drive with foldable legs for stable, portable design that sets up in seconds.
  • 120-ball capacity, app and gesture control, plus compatibility with multiple court types and even pickleball.

Tried and Tested

Earlier this year, Aceii One was demonstrated in Los Angeles and New York during the US Open period. Influencers, coaches, and players had the chance to test the machine, and feedback was unanimous: it felt closer to a real hitting partner than any traditional ball machine.

“We refused to build just another machine,” said Ricky Liu, founder of Aceii. “Aceii One learns with you, rallies with you, and competes with you. It’s about making tennis more accessible, more rewarding, and more fun.”

Availability

Aceii One will launch exclusively on Kickstarter on September 23, 2025 at 9:00 AM ET / 6:00 AM PT, with special early-bird pricing available for backers. As of now, there have been over a thousand followers.

About Aceii

Aceii is a robotics and sports technology team with over a decade of experience in intelligent systems. The company’s mission is to merge AI and sport to create tools that make training smarter and more engaging. With Aceii One, Aceii is pioneering the next era of AI-assisted tennis.
