SINGAPORE – Media OutReach – 7 January 2022 – For centuries dialogue has been known to create positive transformation in businesses, cultures and communities, shaping our global, regional and industry agendas.

SpeakIn is launching Asia Dialogues in an effort to build conversations on topics of immediate focus to the Asian region. The forum being launched in Singapore will enable progressive discussions that will not only bring us closer to one another but will also recognise eminent thought leaders in the region.

From ESG to Diversity and Inclusion; from Sustainable Finance to Digital Transformation and Climate Change, SpeakIn’s Asia Dialogues will build a unique ecosystem of discussion and discovery. It will be shaped in the form of events, white papers and vlogs, which will guide and be a reflection of the efforts of regional and global corporate houses, apart from the government and the academia.

As Asias first and largest consortium of thought leaders, industry influencers and subject matter experts, SpeakIn has always been at the forefront of discussions on topics which are shaping our business and policy ecosystem.” said Deepshikha Kumar, Founder and CEO of SpeakIn.

“Singapore,” she said, “will be the home for Asia Dialogues as the region in Asia that is an ultimate innovator, as Asia Dialogues aims to become the benchmark for Asian thought leadership. The concept will bring periodic and sustained discussions on a wide array of themes that impact the worlds largest continent. With SpeakIns global expert network, Asia Dialogues will become the best platform to rekindle discussions of relevance to Asian businesses, governments, media and academia.”

The Virtual-Hybrid event, to be held in Singapore on February 9, 2022, will feature influential voices from across the globe. Ten D&I experts will be recognised for excellence in thought leadership in diversity and inclusivity. The individuals being commended have been beacons, working towards embedding the overarching principle of unity in diversity and illuminating the D&I movement.

The recognition apart, the D&I event will feature a keynote address and a panel discussion, which will include Anthea Colliers, the APAC managing director of Randstad; Michael Brown, the British author and evangelist; Renee Tan, the Singapore-based business transformation leader; and Arvinder Gujral, the former South-East Asia head of Twitter. The panel discussion will be moderated by Ms. Kumar.

Continuing the dialogue on topics of impact, Asia Dialogues will next address ESG and Sustainability’—how the regions companies must weave environmental, social and governance criteria into their processes for better value creation and for the overall good of planet earth. Through 2022 other topics which will be addressed at Asia Dialogues include Leadership Agility and Business Continuity, Digital Transformation in a post-Covid World, Asias Role in Climate Change, and more.

7 In 10 SMEs Say They Require Greater Support In Workforce Upskilling, Budgetary Issues A Key Challenge

  • 68% of employers of SMEs say that they need more support in the form of training resources.
  • One in two (50%) SME employers cite ‘the lack of budget’ as a key challenge in upskilling their workforce.
  • The support required by SMEs include ‘training resources to tap on’ (68%), ‘more support from employees’ (65%) and ‘more government training support’ (55%).

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach – 7 January 2022 – As upskilling tops the business agenda for companies in Singapore, seven in ten (68%) Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) employers say that they require more support in the form of training resources. One in two (50%) of SME employers cite ‘the lack of budget’ as the key challenge in upskilling their workforce.

These are some of the key findings from NTUC LearningHub (NTUC LHUB)’s recent Workforce Learning in Workplace Transformation (WLWT) report. The report is based on a survey with 150 business leaders and 300 employees across industries in Singapore, and interviews with human resource experts.

SME employers have also expressed that the most pressing areas in which they require support include ‘training resources to tap on’ (68%), ‘more support from employees’ (65%) and ‘more government training support’ (55%).

In addition, SMEs also revealed that sending workers to ‘attend courses can be disruptive to daily operations’ (48%) and the ‘lack of support from employees’ (43%) are also challenges encountered when implementing workforce training programmes.

As compared to their larger counterparts, SMEs remain the most sluggish when it comes to training and development. SME companies are the slowest in making plans to improve training (68%), as compared to their larger counterparts (82%). They are also the least likely to make improvements to training methods (19%) and to use post-training feedback to measure the effectiveness of workforce learning programmes (48%), as compared to their larger peers in these two areas (40% and 71% respectively).

Commenting on the findings, NTUC LearningHub Director of Infocomm Technology, Anthony Chew says, “As the leading Continuing Education and Training (CET) provider in Singapore, we hope to enable more businesses to tap on training resources, government funding and support schemes, in order to drive human-centric business transformation. Being the key pillar of our economy, SMEs must also be proactive in the employability of their existing workforce to survive and thrive in a new world order. We stand ready to work with SME leaders to provide their workforce with outcome-focused training so that their workers are well-equipped with job-ready skills.”
