Project InnerSpace Launches GeoMap™ Oceania, Revealing Nearly 1,600 GW of Untapped Geothermal Potential in Australia and 100 GW in New Zealand

Newly published map highlights massive opportunities for geothermal power generation, industrial heat, and district cooling in Australia and New Zealand

BOSTON, Aug. 25, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Project InnerSpace, an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to removing barriers to the global scaling of geothermal energy, has launched GeoMap™ Oceania, a first-of-its-kind, interactive mapping tool that uncovers massive geothermal potential across the region. An analysis by Project InnerSpace utilizing the tool estimates a recoverable geothermal resource potential of 1,596 GW in Australia and 100 GW in New Zealand, nearly 10 times each country’s current installed power capacity.

GeoMap™ Oceania, an interactive mapping tool uncovers massive geothermal potential across the region. The tool integrates millions of the Earth’s surface & subsurface data points to identify where drilling technologies can access geothermal heat for electricity, industrial heat & district cooling. An analysis by Project InnerSpace estimates a recoverable geothermal resource potential of 1,596 GW in Australia; 100 GW in New Zealand-nearly 10 times each country’s current installed power capacity.

An analysis by Project InnerSpace estimates a recoverable geothermal resource potential of 1,596 GW in Australia; 100 GW in New Zealand-nearly 10 times each country’s current installed power capacity.

GeoMap™ Oceania integrates millions of the Earth’s surface and subsurface data points: heat flow, thermal gradients, temperature at depth, and heat-in-place volumes, alongside surface characteristics such as demand centers, industrial clusters, and access to transmission and other infrastructure, to identify where today’s drilling technologies can access geothermal heat for electricity, industrial heat, and district cooling.

Geothermal energy, the heat naturally occurring in the Earth’s crust, is an abundant, low/no-carbon, baseload source of power and heat with a surface footprint that is amongst the smallest of all sources of energy. Advances in drilling and technology development over the last two decades in the oil and gas sector are unlocking geothermal’s global potential, making it affordable and scalable in many locations in the world where it was not before feasible to develop.

In New Zealand, conventional geothermal is already a major energy source given its position on a tectonic boundary, and GeoMap™ identifies significant additional opportunities for next-generation geothermal development there. Australia is a vast and untapped frontier for geothermal, with GeoMap™ showing opportunities for next-generation geothermal electricity and industrial heat despite the fact that it lacks New Zealand’s volcanic resources. Australia is also home to some of the world’s largest and hottest sedimentary basins, which are an excellent resource for district cooling in major cities like Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide.

GeoMap also highlights locations for geothermal powered and cooled data centers, industrial clusters that are candidates for geothermal heat conversion, coal plants that are candidates for geothermal power conversion, and locations that have subsurface energy storage potential, providing actionable insights for policymakers and project developers. As a follow on to this data release, a “Future of Geothermal in Oceania” report is in the early stages of development, which will function as a roadmap for tapping the region’s full geothermal potential, and consider topics such as investment pathways, supportive policy recommendations, strategies to accelerate development, and high impact pilot projects. The report will build on early momentum in the region, and increasing interest from industry in developing this massive resource. For example, earlier this year, Google Australia partnered with experts at the University of Newcastle’s Institute for Energy and Resources and Project InnerSpace to assess the feasibility of tapping geothermal resources.

“Until GeoMap, there was no easily accessible tool to help stakeholders understand and quantify the geothermal resources beneath them, and thus this ubiquitous resource has been overlooked,” said Jamie Beard, Executive Director of Project InnerSpace. “Australia is an excellent example of untapped potential – with 10X total energy demand hidden beneath the surface, and few indications on the surface that it is there. It is our hope that GeoMap will support stakeholders in advancing this massive but invisible potential into ‘wells in the ground’ development.”

Innovent Biologics Announces U.S. FDA IND Approval for the First Global MRCT Phase 3 Study (MarsLight-11) of IBI363 (PD-1/IL-2α-bias) in Squamous Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

SAN FRANCISCO and SUZHOU, China, Aug. 25, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Innovent Biologics, Inc. (“Innovent”) (HKEX: 01801), a world-class biopharmaceutical company committed to developing, manufacturing and commercializing high-quality medicines in oncology, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, autoimmune, ophthalmology and other major therapeutic areas, today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared the investigational new drug (IND) application to initiate a global Phase 3 clinical trial (MarsLight-11) of IBI363 in immunotherapy(IO)-resistant squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). IBI363 is Innovent’s self-discovered novel PD-1/IL-2α-bias bispecific antibody fusion protein. The upcoming study will be the first global Phase 3 trial of IBI363 and represents a significant milestone in advancing a first-in-class, dual-immune activation immunotherapy for this large patient population. Besides, the pivotal trial of IBI363 head-to-head against pembrolizumab (Keytruda®) in the treatment of melanoma is underway in China.

IBI363 as a Next-generation IO therapy Set for First Global Phase 3 Lung Cancer Trial

This IND clearance follows recent positive feedback from the U.S. FDA at the End-of-Phase 2 (EOP2) meeting. Major alignments of the Phase 3 program were reached regarding the dose selection, study design, and other critical considerations. Innovent has also received IND approval from China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) for this program. In parallel, Innovent has initiated communications and submissions to other major Health authorities. IBI363 has also received Fast Track Designation (FTD) from the FDA and Breakthrough Therapy Designation (BTD) from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in China for this indication.

The multi-regional, randomized, controlled Phase 3 trial will enroll approximately 600 patients globally including China, U.S., Canada, EU, UK, and Japan, etc. The study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of IBI363 3 mg/kg monotherapy compared with docetaxel in patients with unresectable, locally advanced or metastatic squamous NSCLC who have experienced disease progression following platinum-based chemotherapy and anti-PD-1/PD-L1 immunotherapy. The primary endpoint is overall survival.

IBI363’s Breakthrough Data Validates its Dual-immune Activation Mechanism, Stepwise Development in Multiple Tumor Types

At ASCO 2025, Phase 1b/2 results demonstrated meaningful and durable clinical activity in areas of high unmet need, including IO-resistant lung cancer, traditionally “cold tumors” such as acral and mucosal melanoma, and microsatellite stable (MSS) colorectal cancer.

These promising data position IBI363 as a potential first-in-class dual-immune activation therapy with broad applicability across difficult-to-treat cancers. Innovent is rapidly progressing IBI363 into registrational studies, with a pivotal program in melanoma already ongoing, a global Phase 3 trial in squamous NSCLC expected to start shortly, and a registration strategy in colorectal cancer in planning.

In parallel, multiple Phase 1b/2 trials are evaluating IBI363 both as monotherapy and in combinations in first-line NSCLC, first-line CRC, and additional tumor types, including platinum-resistant ovarian cancer (PROC), EGFR+ NSCLC, and neoadjuvant therapy for non-squamous NSCLC. This comprehensive development strategy is designed to maximize the value of IBI363 and expand its potential to address multiple large global oncology markets and improve patient outcomes.

Roy S. Herbst, MD, PhD, Deputy Director and Chief of Medical Oncology and Hematology for Yale Cancer Center and Smilow Cancer Hospital, Ensign Professor of Medicine (Medical Oncology) and Professor of Pharmacology at Yale School of Medicine, shared, “Lung cancer remains the most prevalent malignant tumor worldwide, with particularly high incidence and mortality rates globally. Non-small cell lung cancer constitutes the majority of these cases. Although immunotherapy has significantly improved survival outcomes for some patients, those who do not respond to such treatments and lack driver gene mutations have limited therapeutic options, underscoring the urgent need for enhanced clinical interventions.

Clinical research of the PD-1/IL-2α-biased bispecific molecule IBI363 has revealed encouraging findings.  Preliminary trials have demonstrated that IBI363 not only induces tumor remission in a subset of patients but also achieves disease stability in the majority of patients, indicating durable anti-tumor activity. In comparison to traditional chemotherapy, IBI363 appears to offer potential advantages in both objective response rate (ORR) and progression-free survival (PFS), providing new hope for patients diagnosed with lung cancer.”

Professor Shun Lu from the Oncology Department of Shanghai Chest Hospital, stated: “As a first-in-class PD-1/IL-2α-biased bispecific antibody fusion protein, IBI363 acts by simultaneously blocking the PD-1/PD-L1 pathway and activating the IL-2 pathway. The IL-2 arm of IBI363 is engineered to retain its affinity for IL-2Rα while reducing binding to IL-2Rβ and IL-2Rγ, thereby minimizing toxicity. The PD-1 binding arm not only blocks PD-1 but also selectively delivers IL-2. This dual mechanism targets and activates tumor-specific T cells co-expressing PD-1 and IL-2α, enabling more precise and effective stimulation of this T-cell subpopulation. IBI363 has demonstrated robust antitumor activity across multiple tumor models and has shown remarkable efficacy in IO-resistant, PD-L1 low expression, and cold tumor settings.

The promising data associated with IBI363 offers a novel treatment avenue for patients with non-small cell lung cancer who have not responded to immunotherapy. As research progresses, this innovative therapy holds the potential to bridge clinical gaps and provide the possibility of long-term survival for a greater number of patients.”

Dr. Hui Zhou, Chief R&D Officer for Oncology Pipeline at Innovent Biologics, said, “Today’s IND clearance marks a significant milestone as we initiate the first global Phase 3 trial of our next-generation IO therapy, IBI363 (PD-1/IL-2α-bias). If successful, this trial could bring a potentially transformative treatment to patients with squamous NSCLC worldwide, who currently have limited options after checkpoint inhibitor therapy. Concurrently, we are exploring IBI363 in a broad global clinical program and look forward to more data and continued development in the future.

This achievement also signifies a milestone for Innovent’s global innovation strategy, rooted in our mission to ’empower patients worldwide with affordable, high-quality biopharmaceuticals’ and our vision to ‘build a global premier biopharmaceutical leader.’ Having developed a highly competitive pipeline aligned with our globalization strategy, we have prioritized the global R&D of our assets, alongside expanding our international team and footprint to accelerate the development and access of innovative therapies worldwide.

In addition to IBI363, Innovent is advancing a broader pipeline for global development, including next-generation ADC programs such as bispecific and dual-payload ADCs. We believe our robust pipeline and ongoing R&D efforts will continue to expand our impact in oncology on a global scale.”

  • Expansion of independent operation units (“planes”) enables simultaneous large capacity and high performance, optimized for ultra-high-capacity eSSDs for AI servers
  • Company to broaden cost-competitive, high-capacity product lineup in response to rapidly growing AI demand and high-performance requirements

SEOUL, South Korea, Aug. 25, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — SK hynix Inc. (or ‘the company’, www.skhynix.com) announced today that it has completed development of its 321-layer 2Tb QLC[1] NAND flash product and has begun mass production. This achievement marks the world’s first implementation of more than 300 layers using QLC technology, setting a new benchmark in NAND density. The company plans to release the product in the first half of next year following completion of global customer validation.

To maximize the cost competitiveness of its new product, SK hynix developed a 2Tb device with double the capacity of existing solutions. To address potential performance degradation in large-capacity NAND, the company increased the number of planes[2], independent operation units within a chip, from 4 to 6. This enables greater parallel processing and significantly enhances simultaneous read performance.

As a result, the 321-layer QLC NAND delivers both higher capacity and improved performance compared to previous QLC products. Data transfer speed has doubled, write performance has improved by up to 56%, and read performance has improved by 18%. In addition, write power efficiency has increased by more than 23%, strengthening competitiveness in AI data centers where low power consumption is critical.

The company plans to apply its 321-layer NAND first to PC SSDs, before expanding to enterprise SSDs (eSSD) for data centers and UFS for smartphones. Leveraging its proprietary 32DP[3] technology, which enables the simultaneous stacking of 32 NAND dies in a single package, SK hynix aims to enter the ultra-high-capacity eSSD market for AI servers by achieving twice the integration density.

“With the start of mass production, we have significantly strengthened our high-capacity product portfolio and secured cost competitiveness,” said Jeong Woopyo, Head of NAND Development. “We will make a major leap forward as a full-stack AI memory provider, in line with the explosive growth in AI demand and high-performance requirements in the data center market.”

A nourishing herbal hot pot with premium ingredients like marbled beef, abalone, and rare fungi awaits them in the chapter of central China, while spice lovers will enjoy the western region’s chapter, where Mapo Tofu is elevated with wagyu beef cubes and lobsters.

Chinese values are also woven into each chapter, such as wisdom, responsibility, benevolence, integrity, heritage, connection, and innovation. Along the way, Cheng BaoBao encounters these values in action. From Guilin fishermen honouring a fishing ban to allow ecosystems to thrive, to a Sichuan chef insisting on three-year-aged bean paste for authentic Mapo Tofu, these narrative moments provide a window into the philosophies that shape the country’s culinary heritage.

Immersive Storytelling Through Sight, Sound, and Interaction

Taste of China‘s dynamic projections and live performances also bring each course vividly to life. Dancers in elegant hanfu (traditional Chinese attire) glide through Suzhou’s gardens, echoing the rhythm of the digital scenery. In another chapter, a performer wields a staff in a powerful display of Shaolin martial arts, while in a fishing season storyline in Guilin, guests can virtually “catch” fish in an interactive tabletop game.

The show reaches its dramatic finale with a live Sichuan opera face-changing performance, where artists swap masks with speed amidst an unexpected rock rhythm.

A 3D screen and intricately designed sets outside the venue also provide the perfect backdrop for photos and social sharing.
