YCCECE Officially Launches Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Early Childhood Education) and Master of Education (MEd) programmes

HONG KONG, Feb. 7, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Yew Chung College of Early Childhood Education (YCCECE) proudly announces the official launch of its Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Early Childhood Education) (PGDE) and Master of Education (MEd) programmes. This milestone makes YCCECE the first self-financing tertiary institution in Hong Kong to achieve institutional accreditation from the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) QF Level 6 for operating the two postgraduate programmes. Enrolment is now open for the 2025/26 fall intake.

Since becoming the first specialist early childhood education (ECE) degree-awarding private institution in Asia in 2018, YCCECE has set a high standard in education by introducing various ECE-specialized programmes, including the Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care (DECEC), Higher Diploma in Early Childhood Education (HDECE), and Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Early Childhood Education (BEdECE). It is now the largest self-financing institution in Hong Kong offering a bachelor’s degree in ECE*. The addition of postgraduate programmes further solidifies the College’s commitment to becoming a leading degree-awarding institution in Hong Kong and enhances the educational offerings of the Yew Chung Yew Wah network of schools – providing through-train programmes from early childhood to postgraduate.

Pioneering PGDE with Professional Qualifications
The PGDE (ECE) programme enables graduates to register as Kindergarten Teachers with the Education Bureau and as Child Care Workers and Child Care Supervisors and Special Child Care Workers with the Social Welfare Department. It is currently the only PGDE (ECE) programme offered by a self-financing institution that includes four full professional licenses.

In response to the rising demand for registered kindergarten teachers and ECE practitioners, this programme aims to cultivate knowledgeable and skilled professionals committed to early childhood education. The curriculum addresses contemporary issues in early childhood education, emphasizing reflective skills and the importance of continuous professional development. The programme is ideal for individuals aspiring to careers as early childhood educators or childcare professionals.

Students will benefit from the Professional Integrated Learning arrangement, allowing them to gain practical experience in real school settings, including research opportunities at the College’s Pamela Peck Discovery Space.

PGDE (ECE) is a one-year full-time programme for those who aspire to pursue a career in early childhood education and care to complete their profession in a short period of time.

Flexible Learning Options and Diverse Language Streams
The Master of Education programme provides a comprehensive and adaptable curriculum designed to equip students with the essential knowledge, skills, and ethical values needed to advance in the education sector. It addresses a wide range of contemporary educational topics and is accessible to individuals from various academic backgrounds.

Distinct from typical taught postgraduate programmes, MEd students are given the opportunity to engage in education research projects and related activities, learning directly from leading experts and scholars in the field. This includes participation in flagship research initiatives, such as the HKJC CoolPlay project, which has recently received additional funding support from the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

Emphasizing Yew Chung’s Sino-Western teaching approach, the College offers the MEd in both Chinese and English, catering to the growing demand for quality professional teacher training. This initiative enhances the diversity of the student body, fostering a rich exchange of ideas and cultural perspectives.

Students can choose a flexible study schedule, with options for part-time (two years) or full-time (one year) enrolment, accommodating working professionals from around the globe.

Commitment to Educational Excellence
YCCECE strives to be recognized as a preferred degree-awarding institution in Hong Kong, known for high-quality programmes and enriching learning experiences. The launch of these postgraduate programmes marks a significant step towards establishing YCCECE as a leading institution for education training in Hong Kong and the Asia-Pacific region.

With a diverse and professional faculty comprised of early childhood education specialists, YCCECE stands as the largest ECE faculty among self-financing institutions in Hong Kong.

The two programmes are now open for admission for the 2025/26 intake. For more information, please visit YCCECE’s website or contact us at admissions@yccece.edu.hk.

*Calculated based on the annual enrolment quota of 150 students in 2024/25.

It is the first and only higher education institution in Asia specialising in Early Childhood Education (ECE), invested wholly in this exciting foundational field.

YCCECE, formerly known as the Yew Chung Community College (“YCCC”), was founded in 2008. In 2014, it was the first private higher education institution to provide formal teacher training in Hong Kong with the launch of its Higher Diploma in ECE (HDECE) programme. In 2018, YCCC was transformed into YCCECE with the launch of its flagship Bachelor of Education (Honours) in ECE (BEdECE) degree programme. This milestone represented a full-circle in YCEF’s 90-year history, with the completion of a novel ‘B to B’ (Baby to Bachelor) education spectrum. In 2022 the College became the first self-financed tertiary institution in Hong Kong offering the Certification Course for Kindergarten Principal. Zhejiang becoming model for common prosperity

Zhejiang: Breakthroughs sought in seven key areas

BEIJING, Feb. 7, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — A news report from chinadaily.com.cn:

A quadruped robot developed by Unitree Robotics, a Chinese technology company based in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, catches the attention of visitors at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2024 in Shanghai in July. PROVIDED TO CHINA DAILY

Zhejiang province is emerging as a national model for achieving common prosperity through high-quality development, anchored by accelerated growth in science and technology.

According to the Zhejiang Scientific and Technological Achievements Transformation Index 2024, which was released in December, the province’s sci-tech index saw an average annual growth rate of 19.60 percent in the first three years of Zhejiang’s 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, providing a powerful driving force for advancing the economy.

“This year marks the conclusion of the 14th Five-Year Plan and is a critical year for building a demonstration zone for achieving common prosperity through high-quality development,” said Wang Hao, secretary of the Communist Party of China Zhejiang Provincial Committee, during the first meeting of Zhejiang authorities in the Year of the Snake, which started on Jan 29.

Zhejiang, an economic powerhouse in eastern China, was designated in 2021 as a demonstration zone for promoting common prosperity.

In 2024, Zhejiang’s economic output surpassed 9 trillion yuan ($1.24 trillion), ranking fourth among the 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland.

Wang emphasized the need for breakthroughs in seven key areas to drive high-quality economic development, including innovating new quality productive forces, advancing high-level opening-up and boosting consumption.

Technological innovations that have originated in Zhejiang, including artificial intelligence applications by DeepSeek and Unitree Robotics, made headlines worldwide during the Chinese New Year holiday, highlighting the province’s tech prowess.

Yu Jianxing, Party secretary of Zhejiang Gongshang University, said: “DeepSeek has given the Chinese people a New Year’s gift. Many once believed that achieving a major breakthrough in AI innovation in China was nearly impossible. But Hangzhou’s six emerging tech giants have accomplished achievements that have shocked the world.”

Emphasizing that this is not just a technology issue, Yu said it also involves the comprehensive effects that forward-looking policies have on society as a whole.

“The key point is that we have gradually established a policy system geared toward common prosperity,” he said.

Yu added that “one of the most remarkable accomplishments is the narrowing of the income gap between urban and rural residents”. He noted that with the reduction in the gap, urban residents’ income is now just 1.8 times that of rural residents, with some cities reducing it to around 1.6, among the lowest in China.

In terms of developing new quality productive forces, Zhejiang will focus on two major tasks: integrating education, science and talent reforms, and deepening the synergy between technological and industrial innovation.

Zhejiang’s institutional framework supports technological innovations at all stages — from production and mass manufacturing to financial backing,” Yu said.

“Every step in the process finds investment and support,” he added.

“This is not just a market business model or a government administrative framework. It is the construction of an innovative ecosystem,” Yu said. “We should pay close attention to the start-ups of today that will evolve in 20 years from now into giants like DeepSeek and Unitree Robotics.”

Zhejiang has already achieved remarkable results in its initiative to promote more than 1,000 major projects with an investment of 1 trillion yuan annually, which has supported the implementation of 203 provincial-level government investment projects, generating a total annual investment of more than 52.2 billion yuan.

A typical case is Yucun village in Anji county of Huzhou, Zhejiang. At the beginning of 2023, Anji proposed the “greater Yucun village” concept, centering on Yucun and integrating 24 administrative villages in three surrounding townships for coordinated development.

Today, the tea plantations around Yucun village have become popular tourist destinations in springtime, boosting tea farmers’ income and significantly promoting the integration of agriculture, culture and tourism.

TOKYO, JAPAN – Media OutReach Newswire – 7 February 2025 – Real estate private equity firm Gaw Capital Partners today announced that the firm, through a fund under its management and investment from co-investors, has partnered with Patience Capital Group (PCG) to form a joint venture for the acquisition and management of prime retail asset “Tokyu Plaza Ginza” in Ginza 5-chome, Tokyo, Japan. Gaw Capital holds 91% of the venture while PCG holds the other 9%.

Tokyu Plaza Ginza
Tokyu Plaza Ginza

Completed in 2016, Tokyu Plaza Ginza has a gross floor area of 15,153 tsubo (50,093 sqm). It has direct access to Ginza Station and is a short walk from JR Yurakucho Station. The mall is surrounded by flagship stores of luxury brands, renowned department stores and upscale hotels, in the heart of one of Tokyo’s most prestigious shopping districts. The asset is one of the largest and rarest retail facilities in Ginza, occupying a high-street footprint of over 1,139 tsubo and spanning an entire block with four-sided frontage. Its unparalleled location offers exceptional accessibility and prestige.

Tokyo retail sales volume continued to outperform, fueled by robust spending on luxury goods by increasing number of tourists and the yen depreciation. Furthermore, domestic consumption in Japan benefits from the positive wage growth outlook. With the government’s planned revitalization of the adjacent Tokyo Expressway (KK Line) into a green pedestrian walk, known as the Tokyo Sky Corridor (High Line) that is set to partially open in 2029, it is expected to further enhance the potential value of Tokyu Plaza Ginza.

Isabella Lo, Managing Director, Principal – Investments and Head of Japan at Gaw Capital, commented, “We are thrilled to acquire this iconic retail asset in Ginza, Tokyo. Our partnership with Patience Capital Group brings together synergies that will maximize the value of this iconic asset. By combining Patience Capital Group’s ability to source unique opportunities and Gaw Capital’s extensive retail experience, we are confident in our ability to reposition the mall as a premier retail destination. With favorable macroeconomic fundamentals supporting Japan’s retail sector, this is a highly opportune time to invest.”

Alvin Lo, Managing Director, Principal – Asset Management at Gaw Capital, added, “Leveraging the firm’s extensive expertise in retail value-add strategies, Gaw Capital is excited to lead the asset management strategy and leasing of the asset. The business plan involves transforming the mall into a vibrant, brand-new retail destination with a refreshed tenant mix and a coherent concept.”

Ken Chan, Founder and CEO, Patience Capital Group said, “We are excited about our partnership with Gaw Capital. PCG’s extensive relationships in Japan gives us unique access to off-market opportunities. These deep connections were key in helping us source and put together this deal. With the Japanese retail sector’s resilient demand, Gaw Capital’s retail experience and PCGs track record of working with brands to craft the ideal tenant mix, we look forward to leveraging our combined strengths to unlock the potential of this exceptional asset.”Hashtag: #GawCapitalPartners

The digital economy is essential in driving economic growth and enhancing international competitiveness.

With Forest City’s approval of the Malaysian Digital Status, eligible digital enterprises in fields such as artificial intelligence, big data, the Internet of Things, network security, blockchain, unmanned aerial vehicles, and creative media can enjoy a number of incentives, such as corporate income tax exemptions.

The approval of the incentives will comprehensively enhance the value of Forest City. Investment made by high-tech enterprises will trigger a chain reaction, driving related industrial chains such as software development, hardware manufacturing, and information technology services, injecting a progressive source of economic growth momentum into Forest City and even the region.

With the attention from global investors, the office products in the Forest City Financial Center Building are selling extremely well despite current landscape of surplus supply with deficit demand. In response to market demand, Forest City launched multi-functional shops in Cerulean Bay in January. These shops can be used not only for daily business operations but also for office purposes, demonstrating higher cost – effectiveness and practicality. With the SOFO (Small Office, Flexible Office) layout design, there are various segments ranging from 121 to 922 square meters available for selection, which is very suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises. Larger units can also be divided into multiple units for self-use or rental, meeting diversified office needs.

Bowtie Collaborate with Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong and Pfizer Hong Kong to Promote Health Education

Aims to boost health awareness for migraine, disease impacting over 900,000 Hongkongers[1]

HONG KONG, Feb. 7, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Bowtie, Hong Kong’s first virtual insurer[2], collaborates with Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong and Pfizer Hong Kong to promote health education. With the aim of encouraging citizens to address their health conditions, identifying the causes early, and improving their quality of life; the three parties will provide free health education information, simple online self-assessments, and support for professional medical consultations.

The Primary Healthcare Blueprint indicates that only about 23%[3] of the Hong Kong population has a regular family doctor, making it difficult for family doctors to play a significant role in medical coordination and referral at the community level; this also reflects the difficulty for the general public to understand their own health conditions. Without professional knowledge, individuals may suffer from diseases without being aware of them.

Migraine is one of the most easily overlooked diseases. Studies show that there are over 1 billion migraine patients worldwide[4], with a high incidence rate in Hong Kong at 12.5%[5], meaning that 1 in every 8 individuals is affected, equating to over 900,000 patients in Hong Kong. Migraine is classified as the “second leading cause of disability in the world”[6], it can cause moderate to severe headaches, accompanied by symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, phonophobia, and photophobia, lasting for 4 to 72 hours, significantly affecting patients’ lives[7].

Reference to a previous local survey on the recognition and treatment of migraine[8], most respondents have misconceptions about migraine, such as assuming it cannot be cured or prevented, considering it only affects one side of the head, and won’t last for a long time. Regarding migraine, only a few patients actively seek medical support, while others self-medicate with painkillers. Inadequate control of their condition can lead to “chronic migraine”, resulting in more than 15 headache days per month which would persist for over 3 months; while frequent and indiscriminate use of painkillers can also lead to “medication overuse headache”, worsening the condition.

Recognizing these issues, Bowtie, Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong, and Pfizer Hong Kong advocate for health education to raise awareness about migraine, with the objective of enhancing public understanding of migraine, the three parties will plan to hold offline health seminars, creating educational materials such in written and video format.

Additionally, to help potential patients identify their health problems, Pfizer Hong Kong will provide a simple online self-assessment for general public. Users only need to answer five questions to preliminarily understand their migraine health status; Bowtie customers identified as high-risk through the self-assessment will have the opportunity to receive a half-priced outpatient consultation discount with a one-on-one medical consultation with neurology specialist at Gleneagles[9].

Mr. Fred Ngan, Co-founder of Bowtie, stated, “As an online insurance company, Bowtie places great emphasis on insurance and health education. We are delighted to collaborate with Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong and Pfizer Hong Kong to make previously hard-to-access information transparent, significantly increasing people’s awareness of migraines and the importance of their health, thus encouraging them to seek professional support.”

Dr. Kenneth Tsang, Chief Executive Officer of Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong and Regional Chief Executive Officer of IHH Healthcare North Asia, said, “Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong is committed to providing quality medical services while actively promoting the development of primary healthcare through various initiatives, including health education, to enhance public awareness of different diseases and health consciousness. Through this collaboration with Bowtie and Pfizer Hong Kong, we believe that people’s understanding of migraines will be deepened and those in need will be able to receive timely and professional medical support.”

Mr. Krishnamoorthy Sundaresan, General Manager of Pfizer Hong Kong and Macau, said, “Pfizer Hong Kong has always been committed to bringing patients innovative breakthroughs that change their lives. We understand that migraines not only cause physical distress, but also seriously affect patients’ quality of life, including work, study, leisure, and social activities. Therefore, we believe this collaboration will significantly increase public awareness on this disease and its subsequent burden, encouraging patients to face the problem, and build a more supportive social environment for them.”

Empowering the Green Transformation of a Century-Old Coal City: The Case of Pan’an Lake Wetland Park

XUZHOU, China, Feb. 7, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — On February 6, staff from the State Grid Xuzhou Power Supply Company conducted inspections of electrical facilities on the opposite bank of Xuzhou Lake Wetland Park in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province. This was done to ensure reliable power supply for over 100 electric sightseeing vehicles and electric cruise boats.

It is estimated that the low-voltage shore power facilities installed at Pan’an Lake Wetland Park can annually charge more than 10,000 electric cruise boats, replace over 50 tons of fuel, and save merchants nearly RMB 400,000 in energy costs each year.

Xuzhou, known as a century-old coal city, once had Pan’an Lake as its largest coal mining subsidence area. Since 2011, the local government has implemented comprehensive remediation of the subsidence area following the principle of “cultivating wetlands and developing tourism.”

The State Grid Xuzhou Power Supply Company leveraged its professional and resource advantages to assist Pan’an Lake Wetland Park in implementing the ship shore power project. This initiative promoted the pilot programs of “replacing oil with electricity” and “replacing coal with electricity.” The company constructed four ship shore power service areas across 19 islands within the scenic area and completed the installation and renovation of over 10 sets of shore power facilities. With these convenient charging facilities, the park has successively introduced electric sightseeing cars and electric cruise boats, attracting a steady stream of visitors.

In 2024, Pan’an Lake Wetland Park received approximately 2 million tourists, generating a comprehensive tourism income of RMB 368 million, representing an increase of about 17%. This has resulted in significant economic, social, and ecological benefits.
