HTX Hot Listings Weekly Recap (Dec 29 – Jan 4): PEPE Leads Memecoin Frenzy as Multi-Chain Memecoins Surge

PANAMA CITY, Jan. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Transitioning from late 2025 into early 2026, the crypto market saw a recovery in risk appetite despite ongoing volatility. As market liquidity gradually improved, capital rotated from defensive positions toward high-beta, sentiment-driven sectors, thrusting memecoins back into the spotlight.

Over the past week (December 29, 2025 – January 4, 2026), multiple newly listed assets on HTX recorded impressive gains. Memecoins across BSC, Solana, Base, Ethereum, and TRON ecosystems rallied, marking one of the most representative market trends of the week.

Memecoin Sector: Multi-Chain Rallies Driven by Accelerating Momentum

This week’s top gainers were dominated by memecoin projects, reflecting a sustained capital preference for assets with high consensus and strong virality.

On BNB Smart Chain (BSC), BROCCOLI (CZ’s dog) stood out as the top performer, surging 170% over the week. As an active memecoin project within the BSC ecosystem, BROCCOLI rapidly attracted capital through community-driven dissemination and sentiment resonance. Meanwhile, 4 (FOUR) gained 48%, PALU rose 37%, and Binance Life increased 19%, highlighting a broad-based pickup in the BSC memecoin sector.

The Solana ecosystem maintained its strength. PONKE (Ponke) climbed 104% this week, supported by rising community engagement and expanding trading volume, making it a flagship asset within the SOL memecoin space. BONK (Bonk) advanced 44%, while BOME (Book of Meme) gained 37%, signaling continued development potential for Solana-based memecoins.

Other ecosystems also posted notable gains. On Ethereum, leading memecoin PEPE rose 64%. On TRON, memecoin SUNDOG (Sundog) increased 39% over the week. Within the Base ecosystem, BRETT (Brett) recorded a 43% weekly gain. These moves underscore that both the royal public chains and the emerging Layer2 networks continue to attract capital under the memecoin narrative.

AI Sector: Selective Recovery Led by the Base Ecosystem

While memecoins drove short-term retail sentiment, the AI sector experienced a “structural recovery,” with strength concentrated primarily within the Base ecosystem.

GAMEBASE (Game by Virtuals) surged 60% during the week. As an AI agent gaming framework supported by Virtuals, GAME attracted attention at the intersection of AI, blockchain gaming, and application-layer narratives. Meanwhile, VIRTUAL (Virtuals Protocol) rose 40%, driven by its positioning as an AI and Metaverse protocol focused on virtual interaction. Overall, AI assets exhibited a structural recovery rather than a sentiment-driven surge. While short-term momentum lagged memecoins, AI assets continue to hold mid-term allocation value within broader narrative cycles.

HTX Listing Strategy: Multi-Sector Coverage with a Value-Oriented Focus

The market performance this week followed a clear “sentiment-first, memecoin-led” pattern. With strong consensus, rapid dissemination, and high volatility, memecoins became the primary short-term destination for capital. At the same time, assets from the narrative-driven sectors such as AI showed selective recovery across specific chains, offering diversified opportunities.

Through high-frequency listing and multi-chain asset deployment, HTX continues to expand listing coverage across core narratives including memecoin and AI, providing users with a broader range of trading opportunities. In 2026, HTX’s asset listing strategy will maintain high sensitivity to market trends while reinforcing a value-focusing philosophy through progressively stricter listing standards. By combining forward-looking deployment in high-growth assets with refined selection, HTX aims to amplify the wealth effect of quality assets and help users capture more deterministic opportunities in the fast-growing crypto market.

Post-Marathon Spending Surge in Sanya Signals the Rise of the “Racecation”

SANYA, China, Jan. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Hainan (Sanya) Marathon, held over the last weekend of 2025, marked the inaugural Class A-certified event sanctioned by the China Athletics Association (CAA) since the commencement of operations in the Hainan Free Trade Port (Hainan FTP) under its independent customs and trade regulations. Hainan FTP’s advantages in easier visa access, air connectivity, duty-free trade, and international mobility were reflected in strong participation and on-the-ground activity. The marathon boosted local tourism, dining, and accommodation, with hotel occupancy reaching 92% and commercial spending along the course rising by about 35%.

Yang Yong, General Manager of Events and Commercialization at event partner Orange Lion Sports (formerly Alibaba Sports), said organizers drew on resources across the Alibaba ecosystem – including Taobao, Fliggy, Alibaba Health, Ant Chain, and Amap – to broaden the event’s reach and connect more effectively with domestic and international running audiences, encouraging greater participation in event-related spending.

Hainan FTP offers visa-free entry to citizens of 86 countries, and its international air network links 25 destinations across Asia and Europe, further improving accessibility for international participants. Under the new customs and trade framework, the list of items eligible for duty-free import expanded from 1,900 to over 6,600, allowing previously duty-bound race equipment and supplies to be brought in tax-free, which helped significantly reduce event costs.

According to the organizers, the expanded list lowered procurement expenses for timing systems, professional supplies, and audio equipment. The resulting savings were reinvested in operations, runner services, and marketing, enhancing overall quality and reach, while also strengthening commercial appeal and attracting more sponsors and partners.

The marathon’s impact extended beyond race weekend. Fliggy data show hotel bookings rising steadily since late October, with partner hotels maintaining this upward trend during the event. Coinciding with the first New Year and Spring Festival holiday under the new customs arrangements, the event further stimulated consumer spending. According to the Sanya Bureau of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television and Sports, the city welcomed 650,800 visitors during the 2026 New Year holiday, generating RMB 1.299 billion in tourism spending. The combined momentum of the event and holiday travel contributed to a notable increase in overall market activity.

The success of the Hainan (Sanya) Marathon demonstrates how major sporting events now bridge tourism, hospitality, and international spending.

Another Fire Hits Wat That Village Days After Deadly Blaze in Luang Prabang

A fire broke out in Wat That village in Luang Prabang City at around 3:30 pm on 8 January, damaging several residential houses just days after a deadly blaze in the same area.

Local authorities said emergency responders, rescue teams, and village officials moved quickly to contain the fire. Traffic police diverted vehicles to allow fire engines to reach the site, while crews helped residents move belongings to safety and secured nearby homes.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control after about 90 minutes. Officials reported that six houses were damaged and two people sustained injuries.

No fatalities were reported in the latest incident.

Authorities said the dense layout of the area, made up largely of old wooden houses built close together, allowed the fire to spread rapidly. The total value of property damage has yet to be assessed, and investigators are still working to determine the cause.

Officials said inquiries are ongoing and further updates will be released as more information becomes available.

Earlier Fire Linked to Criminal Case

The incident came just five days after a major fire in the same village on 3 January, which authorities later linked to a serious criminal case involving robbery, murder, and arson.

That fire broke out at around 1:00 am, damaging eight houses and killing two Chinese nationals, identified as Fong Jiao and her five-year-old daughter.

Police arrested a suspect, Yui Fengtong, 43, a Chinese national, the following day in Boten district, Luang Namtha Province.

According to Luang Prabang police, Yui confessed to committing robbery and murder before setting the house on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence.

Investigators said Yui told authorities he had invested about RMB 100,000 (around USD 14,300) in a fruit trading business in China in 2023 with Shen Long, the victim’s husband.

Yui claimed he did not receive any share of the profits and later traveled to Luang Prabang after Shen relocated there for business. Unable to find Shen, Yui instead targeted his wife and child.

Police said investigations are continuing to gather further evidence and clarify all aspects of the case, with legal proceedings against the suspect ongoing in accordance with the law.
