Lao-Thai Trade Climbs as Postal Services Move to Modernize Cross-Border Delivery

Lao-Thai Trade.

Trade between Thailand and Laos is gaining new momentum, with bilateral flows rising 8.8 percent to THB 24 billion (USD 738.5 million), according to Thailand Post President Danun Supatpan.

He says the steady climb is being fueled by Laos’ fast-growing e-commerce scene and by the smoother movement of goods made possible by the China–Laos high-speed railway.

For Danun, the shift is more than a statistical bump—it’s a sign that the logistics landscape between the two neighbors is changing, and that postal services on both sides need to evolve with it. He believes Thailand Post and Lao Post are well-positioned to help small businesses take advantage of the moment, especially as more consumers in Laos turn to online shopping and rely on cash-on-delivery options.

Ministry of Commerce data from September 2025 show that online transactions in Laos have increased sharply in the past year, pushing postal operators to strengthen delivery networks and simplify payments. Danun says these developments are essential foundations for deeper economic cooperation, not only between Thailand and Laos but across the wider CLMV subregion.

The two postal operators have now agreed on a set of joint priorities designed to keep pace with the region’s more digital, more mobile trade environment. Their plan includes tightening security checks on both air and land routes, expanding EMS coverage along border crossings, and using electronic data systems to minimize customs delays.

E-commerce services will also get a boost. Both sides intend to improve cross-border parcel options—particularly small-packet and COD services—to make it easier for individual sellers and SMEs to send goods through Thailand, Laos and onward to China.

Financial services form another part of the partnership’s focus. Thailand Post is upgrading its e-payment systems and will continue cooperating with Western Union to ensure customers have reliable channels for transfers and online payments.

Beyond the technical side, the two postal agencies are also looking to strengthen soft ties. They plan to collaborate on stamp issues and other cultural initiatives that highlight the long relationship between the two countries.

Staff training and knowledge-sharing are included as well, with both organizations aiming to raise service standards through joint workshops and exchange programs.

Thailand Post is preparing its own upgrades, including real-time tracking for international parcels and a revised fee structure designed to make shipping more affordable for small merchants. The company is also expanding its presence at key border points like Nong Khai and Chiang Khong, positioning itself to support goods moving along the Thailand–Laos–China corridor and further toward Europe.

Danun says the ultimate goal is to create a cross-border logistics system that works smoothly across rail, road and air, one that can support the region’s digital economy and give SMEs a clearer path to regional markets.

Scott Price, Group Chief Executive, DFI Retail Group delivered the keynote address at the recent 2025 World Edition of Break the ceiling touch the sky® in Singapore and commented, “It was an honour to deliver the keynote at the “Break the Ceiling Touch the Sky” summit hosted by House of Rose Professional Pte. Ltd., where the critical intersection of leadership, innovation, and diversity in today’s rapidly changing world was explored. Over my 35+ years working across Asia, I’ve witnessed firsthand the transformative power of gender diversity in leadership. The modern workplace is being redefined by AI, technology, and global trade—forces that are transforming industries, creating opportunities, and, at times, disproportionately impacting underrepresented groups, especially women. History has shown us that with innovation comes opportunity, and the companies that embrace diversity and inclusion will lead the way forward. Diversity is not just a value—it’s an economic and strategic imperative. At DFI Retail Group, women represent 65% of our workforce and 60-70% of our customers. For any organization to succeed, its leadership must mirror the people it serves. The data is clear: companies that embrace gender diversity consistently outperform their peers.

Vijayanand Sinha, SVP ASEAN, Reckitt shared, “Reckitt’s workforce represents people of all ages, backgrounds, identities and beliefs. We continue to strive to make our company and wider society an inclusive environment, where every voice is heard and every individual matters. Preeti Arora Razdan, Managing Director, Southeast Asia, Diageo; “We believe our continued partnership with Break the Ceiling Touch the Sky® is key to unlocking a truly inclusive and sustainable future. At Diageo, inclusion is at the heart of everything we do, from building talented teams and sourcing diverse suppliers to ensuring our brands authentically reflect the world around us. We further extend this commitment to empower women and other communities through skills programs that improve employability and livelihoods.”

The importance of accelerated engagement of women in the workforce and gender balance was reiterated at the 2025 India Edition of Break the ceiling touch the sky® in Mumbai earlier with the most successful Companies in India taking the stage to share their strategies for success and connect with suppliers and customers at the summit. With just 2% of Fortune 500 India CEOs being female currently, the importance of Break the ceiling touch the sky® as a platform to inspire and enable greater gender balance across India’s most successful companies is immense.

Mona Gupta, Head of GRS Capability Center Operations Liberty Mutual Insurance commented: “For over a century, Liberty Mutual has been driven by a clear purpose: to help people embrace today and confidently pursue tomorrow. As a global leader in insurance, we’ve built our legacy on trust, innovation, and a commitment to protecting what matters the most. Our message to women in leadership is to be assertive, and trust in your ability to break barriers. The ceiling isn’t as high when you decide to push past it.”

With this in mind, we are immensely proud to continue our partnership with Break the Ceiling Touch the Sky®  in India, in our shared mission to enable and inspire people to achieve greater success. Since 2017, we have partnered across multiple regions, reinforcing our commitment to driving positive impact.”

Being a technology driven energy retailer, Jio-bp continues to push boundaries for improving customer experience across their mobility needs. We were inspired by the  diverse perspectives and learnings at the 2025 Indian Edition of Break the ceiling touch the sky summit and shared our own best practices with the many companies that participated at the summit.”

At the 2025 Middle East and Africa Edition of Break the ceiling touch the sky® held in Dubai in September a team of CEO speakers led the day, underlining why gender balance and women in leadership has become a critical pillar of the region’s most successful Companies and the role that Break the ceiling touch the sky® has played in evolution of gender balance in the region.

Peter Van den Broeck, Senior VP, GM Middle East Africa – Global Export Markets, BIC delivered a rousing keynote and commented ” We are proud to partner with House of Rose Professional for the fifth year in a row to help bring gender equality to the top of the agenda, professionally and beyond. Chula Veterinarians Perform Thailand’s First Pacemaker Implant in a Cat

BANGKOK, Nov. 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — In a groundbreaking medical milestone, veterinarians from Chulalongkorn University‘s Faculty of Veterinary Science have successfully performed Thailand’s first pacemaker implantation in a cat, marking a new era in advanced veterinary cardiology. The procedure, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anusak Kijtawornrat from the Department of Physiology, demonstrates Thailand’s growing capacity in high-precision animal healthcare.

Chula Veterinarians Perform Thailand’s First Pacemaker Implant in a Cat

The patient, Pepsi, an eight-year-old domestic shorthair cat, had suffered frequent fainting spells—up to four times daily—caused by severe cardiac arrhythmia. After receiving the pacemaker, she made a full recovery and has since regained her normal strength, appetite, and playful personality.

Dr. Anusak explained that Pepsi‘s condition stemmed from a blockage of electrical signals between the heart’s chambers, preventing blood from reaching the brain. Such arrhythmias are rare in cats, representing about 0.03% of feline cardiac cases and often occurring in older animals. The diagnosis was confirmed through 24-hour Holter monitoring, a more accurate tool than standard ECG testing.

Because of the cat’s small anatomy, the surgery required extraordinary precision. Unlike dogs, where pacemaker leads can be inserted through a vein, cats have thinner heart walls—just two millimeters thick—making that method risky. The surgical team instead opened the chest cavity to attach the pacing lead directly to the heart’s surface and connected it to a small generator implanted under the abdominal muscles. The one-hour operation involved a multidisciplinary team of cardiologists, surgeons, and anesthesiologists working in tandem.

The pacemaker, identical to human models but customized for feline use, costs around 59,000 baht in total, though Pepsi‘s device was a donated and sterilized unit. Post-surgery, she now visits the hospital every three months for follow-ups and continues to live a normal, active life.

Dr. Anusak emphasized that this success highlights Thailand’s readiness to perform complex procedures at global standards. He encouraged pet owners to seek prompt veterinary care if their animals show signs of fainting or weakness and urged young veterinarians to continue learning and innovating:

“What once seemed impossible in Thailand is now achievable through dedication, collaboration, and continuous advancement.”

Driving Bangkok’s Emergence as a World-Class City and Reinforcing CG Capital’s Leadership in Thailand’s Branded Residences Sector

A Vision of “World-Class Development for a World-Class City and Global Citizens”
BANGKOK, THAILAND – Media OutReach Newswire – 24 November 2025 – CG Capital Advisory Limited (CG Capital), Thailand’s leading private equity fund from Central Group specializing in premium real estate and hospitality investment, has partnered with IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG), one of the world’s leading hotel companies, to unveil InterContinental Residences Bangkok Asoke — a landmark THB 5.5 billion freehold hospitality-branded residence located in the heart of Sukhumvit.

This collaboration sets a new benchmark for luxury living in Thailand, reinforcing CG Capital’s vision of delivering “World-Class Development for a World-Class City and Global Citizens.” The project aligns with the growth momentum of Thailand’s high-end property market, projected to expand by 3.4% annually through 2029, while further cementing CG Capital’s pivotal role in shaping Bangkok into a true World-Class City.
Confidence in Bangkok’s Potential

Mr. Phoom Chirathivat, Managing Partner and Co-Head of CG Capital, shared:
“We have strong confidence in Bangkok’s continued rise as a global city—driven by investment, lifestyle, and quality of life. We are proud to partner with IHG on the launch of InterContinental Residences Bangkok Asoke, the first freehold hospitality-branded residences in Sukhumvit. This partnership perfectly embodies our strategic vision of creating World-Class Products for World-Class Citizens.
Valued at THB 5.5 billion, this project is expected to attract both Thai residents who favor the Sukhumvit area and international buyers from all over the world.”
He further added: “Following the success of The Standard Residences, Phuket Bang Tao, this is CG Capital’s second flagship project. We believe Bangkok and Phuket both hold immense potential for global buyers or residents seeking a second home in Asia. Compared to major cities such as New York, London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Singapore, Thailand still offers its world-class quality, service, and location. Through this collaboration, IHG’s hospitality excellence will be seamlessly translated into an elevated residential experience.”
A Prime Address with Long-Term Potential
Strategically located on Sukhumvit 16 in the vibrant Asoke district—Bangkok’s key business, lifestyle, and transport hub—the project sits amid one of the city’s most desirable neighborhoods. Land prices in this area have reached nearly THB 3 million per sq.w, while Bangkok’s overall rental index recently rose by 9%, underscoring its exclusivity and appeal.
With only 88 exclusive freehold residences ranging from 139 to 547 sq.m., priced from THB 40.8 million, the project will host its VIP sales event on 16 November 2025. Thoughtfully crafted under the concept of “Timeless Design, Future Ready Comfort,” the development reflects the enduring sophistication of Sukhumvit’s heritage of elegance while embracing modern InterContinental refinement.
Residents will enjoy an array of five-star hotel-standard amenities, including a 25-meter saltwater swimming pool, fully equipped fitness center, yoga and pilates studio, hot & cold plunge pools, private lounge, co-working space, meeting room, game room, art studio, and residents’ lounge, complemented by 24-hour concierge services under the renowned InterContinental brand standards—delivering an exceptional living experience every day. The project is scheduled for completion in Q2 2029.
Global Hospitality Meets Modern Residential Living
Ms. Alexandra Yao, Vice President, Global Branded Residences, IHG Hotels & Resorts, stated:
“InterContinental is more than a luxury hotel brand—it represents 80 years of world-class hospitality, with over 230 hotels in 70 countries. Each property serves as a Gateway to the Extraordinary.
We are delighted to bring this legacy to Thailand’s residential market and introduce the first standalone InterContinental branded residences globally with InterContinental Residences Bangkok Asoke. Our partnership with CG Capital reflects our shared vision to offer Modern Luxury Living—seamlessly blending the comforts of home with the sophistication of hotel service.”

Market Outlook and Branded Residences Leadership
Ms. Artitaya Kasemlawan, Head of Residential Sales – Project at CBRE Thailand, added, “Asia Pacific (APAC) is emerging as a key hub for branded residences. When combining completed projects and those in the pipeline, the region accounts for a 23% market share—on par with North America. Thailand leads APAC in the number of branded residences and ranks among the world’s Top 10 cities with the highest concentration of such projects, with Phuket at No. 5 and Bangkok at No. 7. This aligns with CG Capital’s strategy, which positions Bangkok and Phuket as world-class cities attracting global residents thanks to their livability, cost of living, infrastructure, diversity and future potential as medical hubs.”
“In the first half of 2025, branded residences in Bangkok represent just 1% of the city’s prime residential supply, with only nine projects under 5-star hotel brands. Of these, just three offer freehold ownership, boasting an impressive 93% sales rate—a clear indicator of strong demand in the luxury segment. The market continues to grow, particularly for branded residences. InterContinental Residences Bangkok Asoke stands out as the first hotel-branded residence on Sukhumvit Road, strategically located near the Asoke-Sukhumvit intersection, connecting BTS Asok and MRT Sukhumvit stations. Surrounded by upscale amenities—luxury malls, fine dining, five-star hotels, Grade A office towers, and international schools—the project also offers easy access to Benjakitti Park, which links to Lumpini Park. Beyond its prime location, the development’s freehold status meets buyers’ needs for both personal use and long-term asset transfer. InterContinental Residences Bangkok Asoke enters the market at the perfect time, amid rapid growth in this segment,” Ms. Artitaya concluded.

A New Chapter for Thailand’s Branded Residences
The launch of InterContinental Residences Bangkok Asoke marks a milestone in positioning Thailand’s luxury residential market on the global stage. It sets a new benchmark for branded residences in Asia Pacific, reflecting the shared vision of CG Capital and IHG to redefine modern urban living and propel Bangkok’s transformation into a true World-Class City.

Appotronics Touts Laser+LCoS As Key to Revolutionizing AR Glasses Experience at LIPA 2025

NEW YORK, Nov. 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — At the Laser Illuminated Projector Association (LIPA) 2025 annual general meeting, Appotronics, the inventor of ALPD® laser display technology and a board member of the organization, detailed the compelling advantages of the laser+LCoS technological route for the future of augmented reality (AR) glasses. James Tian, Senior Business Development Director, delivered a keynote titled “Dare to be the first” before an audience of LIPA members—including industry leaders such as Texas Instruments, Barco, Epson, Panasonic, Nichia, and Christie—as well as academic experts, outlining how this approach addresses core challenges in brightness, efficiency, and form factor.

Tian emphasized that as AR glasses evolve from simple information prompts to full-content displays—powered by AI for applications like real-time translation, navigation, and first-person preview—the demand for high-performance optics becomes critical. The laser+LCoS route, leveraging laser’s natural polarization and exceptional collimation, eliminates the need for inefficient polarizers and enables a drastically smaller optical engine. This foundation paves the way for displays that are brighter, more efficient, and compact enough for all-day wearability.

Following the presentation of this future technology roadmap, Tian introduced Appotronics’ current optical engine solution for AR glasses, the Dragonfly G1. The Dragonfly G1 is an ultra-compact, dual-split LCoS optical engine designed for high efficiency and comfort, featuring a volume of just 0.35cc per eye and remarkably low system power consumption. Its unique architecture supports high-efficiency waveguide coupling, enables premium 3D display, allows for elegant and adjustable eyewear designs, and significantly boosts production yield to reduce costs.

By advancing both a future-ready laser technology vision and a manufacturable optical engine today, Appotronics is tackling the key technical and economic barriers that have hindered mass adoption of consumer AR glasses, accelerating the integration of augmented reality into everyday digital life.

About Appotronics

Appotronics is the inventor of ALPD® laser display technology and one of the first companies to list on the Shanghai Stock Exchange STAR Market. This cultural exchange project is supported by the Consulate General of Italy.

FASHION TO RECONNECT展覽 Exhibition

The exhibition by Fondazione Pistoletto Cittadellarte and curated by Tiziano Guardini will showcase masterpieces by 9 Hong Kong-based and 16 Italian designers and brands reflecting the cultural exchange and resonance between two regions. It will also serve as a platform to recognise designers’ contributions to sustainable fashion worldwide. The FASHION TO RECONNECT project is being activated through 6 Third Paradise art installations reinterpreted by Hong Kong-based artists and collectives and will be further explored through a two-day symposium.

The large-scale Third Paradise art installations are being unveiled in Hong Kong with the first one having officially debuted on 17 November. During the launch event, the Consul General of Italy expressed his deepest gratitude to all partners, with special words of appreciation to the CCIDA and the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences of City University for their commitment to a project that combines art, fashion, and sustainability, reflecting the very best of Italian craftsmanship and tradition. The FASHION TO RECONNECT exhibition will take place at ArtisTree in Taikoo Place from 25 November to 24 December. The exhibition aims to elevate fashion as an artistic medium for driving social change, showcasing the creative processes and works of 9 Hong Kong-based and 16 Italian designers and brands. Through fashion, the exhibition invites visitors to consider humanity’s relationship with nature and encourages them to make conscious choices for a sustainable future.

To promote exchanges between Hong Kong (China) and Italy in the field of sustainability, FASHION TO RECONNECT is hosting a symposium, a roundtable and 2 seminars under the theme “Sino-Overseas Exchange: The Tale of Two Style Cities”. These events will be held at Soho House in Sheung Wan from 27 to 28 November.

Prof. Alfred Tat-kei Ho, Dean of CLASS, CityUHK, and part of the project team expressed his enthusiasm in announcing the project “CLASS is proud to announce this project as it represents a high-impact activity that will engage not only academics and professionals interested in fashion, sustainability, and art, but also the wider public through activations that will contribute to brand Hong Kong as a creative and cultural hub focusing in East Meets West. This is a concrete example of cross-sectorial collaborations that represent the direction for companies to grow and enhance their brand awareness”.

Prof. Esterina Nervino, Assistant Professor at CityUHK and Project Coordinator of FASHION TO RECONNECT commented: “With my research rooted in luxury, sustainability, and art, I am especially proud of this initiative, which brings together exceptional partners to create cultural experiences that will inspire communities and enliven districts across the city”.

FASHION TO RECONNECT is a touring exhibition presented by Fondazione Pistoletto Cittadellarte and inspired by the dynamic equilibrium of Michelangelo Pistoletto’s Third Paradise. The exhibition opens with artist Michelangelo Pistoletto’s very own words “In the Third Paradise, nature and humanity interweave into a single breath: in sustainable fashion, that breath becomes freedom, becomes responsibility, becomes ethical beauty.” Imagining garments and fashion objects as artworks, the exhibition seeks to showcase the possibilities of sustainable fashion, as drivers of social change and testaments of beauty. Designers, entrepreneurs, brands, and artists articulate new pathways for reconnecting with nature, where material choices, processes, and a renewed sensibility toward creation become catalysts for a more virtuous evolution of the fashion system.

Curated by Tiziano Guardini, with contributions from a scientific committee, including Mr. Carmelo Ficarra, Consul General of Italy in Hong Kong, Prof. Alfred Tat-kei Ho, Dorian Ho, Project Consultant, Ms. Sara Sozzani Maino, Ambassador of Camera Nazionale della Moda, Mr. Paolo Naldini, General Director, Fondazione Pistoletto, and the Project Coordinator Prof. Esterina Nervino, the exhibition grows from the encounter between East and West in a city long shaped by cultural exchange.

The Curator commented: “Each designer and brand featured demonstrates that creating does not merely mean producing, but generating value, respect, and regeneration at every stage of the process. This exhibition is a bridge between Italy and Hong Kong, between past and future, between who we are and who we can become”.

Through this international exchange of ideas, visitors are invited to experience a heightened, nature-rooted fashion. The exhibition stands as one of the flagship initiatives of Cittadellarte Fashion B.E.S.T., the platform created by the artist Michelangelo Pistoletto and late Vogue Italia Editor in Chief Franca Sozzani, that since 2009 has advanced sustainability within the textile and fashion sectors, and forms part of the Fashion to Reconnect: A Tale of Two Style Capitals programme of Fashion Fest.
