ASEAN and Japan Unite Against Cyber Threats: the 2nd AJCCA Conference 2025 in Tokyo Highlights AI-Driven Defense and Regional Cooperation

TOKYO, Oct. 23, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — As cyberattacks grow more complex and global supply chains face rising digital risks, leaders from across ASEAN and Japan gathered in Tokyo for the 2nd AJCCA Conference 2025 in Tokyo, reaffirming their shared commitment to building a safer and more resilient digital future.

Hosted by the ASEAN-Japan Cybersecurity Community Alliance (AJCCA) in partnership with the Japan Network Security Association (JNSA), the event was held at Ichijo Hall, Yayoi Auditorium, The University of Tokyo, under the theme “Securing the Future with AI-Driven Cybersecurity and a Resilient Supply Chain.”

A Call for Regional Unity in the Face of Escalating Cyber Threats

Opening the conference, Yoichi Iida, National Cyber Director of Japan, warned that ASEAN and Japan have become some of the most frequently targeted regions for cyberattacks worldwide. He cited the ransomware incidents that hit Nagoya Port and Asahi Group Holdings as stark reminders of the economic disruption such attacks can cause.

Iida urged stronger coordination between governments and private sectors, emphasizing that “no single country or organization can fight these threats alone.” He called for a new model of collective cyber defense that crosses national and institutional boundaries.

AJCCA’s Framework: Collaboration, Capacity, and Connectivity

Keynote Speech by Dr. Rudi Lumanto, Chairman of AJCCA
Keynote Speech by Dr. Rudi Lumanto, Chairman of AJCCA

Rudi Lumanto, Chairman of AJCCA, outlined the alliance’s guiding vision of three pillars — Collaboration, Capacity, and Connectivity — as the foundation for regional cyber resilience.

He explained that collaboration must go beyond information sharing to foster “synergistic programs and shared strategies.”
Capacity, he added, should harness AI to detect anomalies, predict threats, and automate response systems.
Connectivity, meanwhile, must ensure the security of entire supply chains — an urgent lesson from the Kaseya ransomware attack, where one weak link affected hundreds of organizations.

Japan’s Approach: Securing the Digital Economy

Toshikazu Okuya, Deputy Director General, Commerce and Information Policy Bureau at Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), outlined Japan’s latest initiatives to counter new forms of cyber risk emerging in the AI era.

Referencing high-profile incidents like the ransomware attack on KADOKAWA, Okuya highlighted efforts such as the Cyber-Physical Security Framework (CPSF) and Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) to enhance global supply-chain transparency. He also reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting SMEs and advancing collaboration with ASEAN countries to create “a safe and robust digital society.”

Voices from ASEAN: Co-Development and Future Readiness

A dynamic panel discussion brought together senior officials from ASEAN governments and AJCCA leadership to discuss collective development and next-generation defenses.

  • Cambodia’s Phannarith Ou, Director General of MPTC emphasized the importance of community-based cyber resilience, integrating schools, SMEs, and civil society into the cybersecurity ecosystem.
  • Malaysia’s Megat Zuhairy bin Megat Tajuddin, Chief Executive of NACSA called for ASEAN and Japan to act “as one nation” in developing shared technologies and training programs.
  • Thailand’s Amorn Chomchoey, Secretary General of NCSA noted the high cost of Western security products and voiced his aim to co-develop more affordable, effective defense tools with regional partners.
  • Singapore’s Ong Kok Wee, Assistant Chief Executive (Policy and Corporate Development), CSA urged proactive measures against the misuse of AI and underscored the need for research into quantum encryption and other advanced technologies.

Honoring Cybersecurity Champions: The ACRA Awards

The evening reception at the Royal Park Hotel featured the AJCCA Cyber Resilience Awards (ACRA) — recognizing individuals across ASEAN and Japan who have made remarkable contributions to advancing national and regional cyber resilience.

2025 ACRA Awardees:

  • Brunei: Muhammad Azizul Amir bin POKPADPS Awg Hj Hasrin
  • Cambodia: Ren Phary
  • Indonesia: Muhammad Nuh Al-Azhar
  • Japan: Masahiro Shimomura

  • Special ACRA Award: Dr. Yoichi Shinoda (Japan)

A Stronger Digital Alliance for the Future

As the conference concluded, participants reaffirmed AJCCA’s role as a cornerstone platform for regional cybersecurity cooperation — a bridge connecting governments, industry, and academia across ASEAN and Japan.

Looking ahead, AJCCA pledged to continue strengthening its network and expanding collaboration to tackle emerging challenges such as AI misuse, critical-infrastructure protection, and supply-chain security — ensuring a trusted and resilient digital ecosystem for the region.

Tencent Cloud Recognized as a Representative Vendor in Gartner® Market Guide for Data Lakehouse Platforms

Cloud-Native Data Technology Solutions are Accelerating into the Global Mainstream

HONG KONG, Oct. 23, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — On September 23, Gartner released the Market Guide for Data Lakehouse Platforms report. Tencent Cloud, with DLC (Data Lake Compute), its cloud native serverless lakehouse engine, is listed in the 22 representative data lakehouse platform vendors worldwide.

Tencent Cloud, with DLC (Data Lake Compute), its cloud native serverless lakehouse engine, is listed in the 22 representative data lakehouse platform vendors worldwide.
Tencent Cloud, with DLC (Data Lake Compute), its cloud native serverless lakehouse engine, is listed in the 22 representative data lakehouse platform vendors worldwide.

Gartner points out in the report that “the lakehouse is now firmly established as the architecture that most organizations will seek to standardize on, either for new systems or when their existing Data Warehouses, Data Lakes, Logical Data Warehouses and other analytical systems are upgraded.” It combines the flexibility of data lake with the efficient management of data warehouse, enabling enterprises to conduct business intelligence (BI) and multiple data applications such as artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) on the same platform.

In this context, the global lakehouse market has entered a stage of accelerated integration and competition. In the report, Gartner lists a total of 22 representative vendors, covering traditional data warehouse vendors, data lake vendors, and query accelerator vendors. Tencent Cloud DLC is listed among the 22 world-leading vendors, which we believe demonstrates the continuous breakthroughs of Chinese data lakehouse platform vendors on open standards, computing performance, and intelligent integration.

As a cloud native lakehouse platform developed by Tencent Cloud, DLC can help enterprises integrate and use data efficiently, reducing system complexity and usage barriers. The platform is designed based on a cloud native architecture, with auto scaling and performance optimization capabilities, enabling enterprises to more efficiently handle tasks such as data analysis, modeling, and AI training.

In practical applications, DLC can help enterprises complete analysis and modeling on the same data resources, improve data utilization, and achieve a better balance between performance and cost. For example, a large retail enterprise in Southeast Asia used DLC to achieve Data+AI integrated training, and the performance-to-cost ratio increased by more than 70%.

Currently, Tencent Cloud DLC has helped more than 100 customers complete lakehouse architecture transformation, covering multiple industries such as Internet, education, and retail.

Eurofragance introduces Olivante®, its latest proprietary perfumery ingredient

  • An innovative captive ingredient that delivers opulence in fine fragrances, personal care and air care scented products
  • Olivante® is made by upcycling discarded olive pulp into a fragrance raw material through a 100% natural process
  • It offers a natural alternative for Western and Middle Eastern fragrance consumers seeking richer, more caring experiences

JAKARTA, Indonesia, Oct. 23, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The multinational Eurofragance will unveil its fourth proprietary perfumery ingredient in Dubai at the Beautyworld Middle East trade show on October 27, 2025. The Spanish fragrance house’s latest exclusive raw material brings opulence to fragrance compositions. Opulence in perfumery is about offering consumers fragrances that are rich in terms of their ingredients. Olivante® does so in a manner that is more caring and sustainable.

Delivering opulence in fragrance creations

As a world leader in the design of Middle Eastern fragrances, Eurofragance welcomes Olivante® as a new addition to its palette of ingredients that can deliver opulence in fragrance creations, a sought-after characteristic in perfumes of the Gulf region.  Phenolic, animalic notes reminiscent of castoreum are often appreciated in mukhallat-type creations, and Olivante® possesses many of these olfactive properties.

Olivante® is not only destined to a Middle Eastern target; but also can act as a highlighter of typical western world perfumery ingredients. Eurofragance Perfumers, who have been formulating with this innovative captive ingredient, state that with the inclusion of Olivante®, fruity notes become richer, gourmand notes more delightful and delectable, and certain white floral notes more intense. Because Olivante® is made from olive residual matter, following oil extraction, it does not have an oily smell.

Belén Garcia, Master Perfumer at Eurofragance who is composing with the raw material says: “In recent years we have seen how consumers in the West have opened up to Middle Eastern perfumery. Powerful notes of leather and oud have gained consumer acceptance well beyond the Gulf Region. Olivante® is multi-faceted and offers some of these olfactive aspects that are now appreciated across geographies.”

Upcycling olive pulp into a perfumery ingredient

In developing its fourth proprietary raw material, Eurofragance followed its sustainability philosophy. It collaborated with a partner in the olive oil industry who upcycles olive residues into various byproducts, following the extraction of oil from the olives.

Felipe San Juan, R&D Manager Ingredients and Fragrance Performance and Magdalena Rey, Technical Perfumer, both at Eurofragance, spent months scouring the Spanish countryside searching for the variety of olive with the right concentration of the desired volatiles and precursors.

Because different varieties of olives generate different odorant residues, this search was important to first identify the waste material with the most promising olfactive profile. They worked over a two-year period with a waste management engineer from a specific region of Spain to obtain the ideal original material.  Eurofragance then transformed and refined it via an eco-friendly, multi-step purification process into a new perfumery ingredient that they named Olivante®.

The result is a 100% natural, upcycled fragrance raw material. San Juan states: “Olivante® cannot be made from any random olive pulp. Terroir and climate from a very specific region of Spain are key to this project. Then we applied our scientific expertise to characterize and separate the essential odorant molecules needed to develop a desirable captive ingredient.”

Olivante® is currently under patent review.

An iconic Mediterranean ingredient

The name Olivante® relates to the Levant, the birthplace of the olive tree, which was spread by Phoenicians westward across the Mediterranean to eventually reach Spain. Today, Eurofragance, the leading Spanish fragrance house, presents Olivante® a perfumery ingredient of Spanish heritage with global consumer appeal.

Sine Guçetil, Global Marketing Director at Eurofragance says the following about Olivante®: “Olivante® stands out for its ability to offer perfume richness, or opulence, in a manner that is fresher and less heavy. And, it’s not just intended for fine fragrances.  Our initial trials formulating personal care and home fragrancing products with Olivante® are promising and we feel that this is a proprietary ingredient with strong potential for broader market adoption.”

In addition to proposing a new olfactive experience, this natural ingredient is likely to appeal to marketers looking to offer their consumers products with a sustainability story.

Gender Inequality: The Global Challenge of Making Their Voices Heard

BANGKOK, Oct. 23, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Across the Asia-Pacific, millions of girls face barriers that limit their potential — and change cannot wait. Dr. Christina Warning, a distinguished alumna of Chulalongkorn University and Asia-Pacific Team Leader for Plan International in Germany, has dedicated her career to one mission: amplifying “the woman’s voice, the girl’s voice.”

Gender Inequality: The Global Challenge of Making Their Voices Heard
Gender Inequality: The Global Challenge of Making Their Voices Heard

“The woman’s voice, the girl’s voice, that’s what keeps me going.”

Her work bridges continents and communities, connecting individuals, women, and people from diverse backgrounds with opportunities to share their perspectives and influence societies such as Germany. At the same time, she empowers women and communities to participate, travel, and make their voices heard — proving that one person’s commitment can ripple into global change.

For Dr. Warning, leadership begins with a simple yet powerful truth: believing in yourself.

“The most important quality to improve gender equality is actually believing in yourself — and giving a chance to everybody in society,” she says.

Progress Made — and the Challenges Ahead

Drawing from her work in countries such as Bangladesh, Nepal, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, and the Solomon Islands, she highlights the biggest pressures facing girls in the Asia-Pacific region: poverty, limited opportunities for participation, and health-related challenges. She shares one example from Cambodia: while more children now attend school, remote areas still lack qualified teachers. As a result, young women often leave home early to work, many ending up in garment factories instead of pursuing better opportunities. Her stories reveal both the urgency and the potential for meaningful change.

Even as progress unfolds, millions of girls are still left behind. Despite the challenges, Dr. Warning has witnessed real change: many governments have passed laws protecting children and LGBTQ+ communities, creating more rights and freedoms than ever before. Yet she warns of a widening gap: “There’s a rise in inequality — the very rich and the very poor.”

Stereotypes continue to hold girls back. Sometimes it starts at home, when mothers tell their daughters: “Know your own circle, and stay in that circle.” Dr. Warning’s insights reveal the complex balance between progress and persistent societal barriers — a call to action for all who care about equality.

Why Men Must Join the Movement

For Dr. Warning, inclusivity is non-negotiable.

“Most importantly, we must bring everyone into the conversation—particularly men,” she says.

“Most importantly, we must bring everyone
into the conversation—particularly men”

“Engaging men helps them understand the challenges society faces, particularly those that may affect their own daughters or children.” Her vision highlights that lasting change is only possible when everyone takes part in the conversation.

Bridging Borders, Empowering Communities

At Plan International, Dr. Warning leads initiatives that build cross-border connections. In one program between Cambodia and Laos, women gained new farming techniques, which they later applied in their communities to strengthen food security and improve livelihoods.

Her initiatives give women, men, and diverse communities a platform to participate, make decisions, and and drive social change. Through these programs, she turns ideas into action — and action into lasting impact.

Inspiring the Next Generation of Leaders

Dr. Warning’s greatest motivation comes from seeing her colleagues and community members “thrive and develop.” Her advice to young leaders is simple yet powerful: “Don’t be afraid. Believe in yourself. Even if you think the difference you make is small, it counts.”

Learning the World the Asian Way

Her leadership skills and perspective were shaped long before her fieldwork — rooted in her transformative years at Chulalongkorn University. Dr. Warning fondly recalls her five years at Chula — one year in Southeast Asian Studies and four years completing her Ph.D. in Thai Studies. Drawn to the university’s reputation, she was inspired by professors who nurtured her curiosity, especially a female mentor who became her doctoral supervisor.

Reflecting on her time at Chula, she says the greatest value was the perspective it offered. “Gaining an Asian way of seeing the world was a tremendous asset,” she recalls. Those insights continue to guide her work and the way she tackles challenges today.

Her leadership, shaped by years of fieldwork and her academic journey at Chula, has made her a powerful advocate for gender equality and inclusive development across the region.
