Senhwa Biosciences Announces Positive Clinical Data from Phase 1/Expansion Trial of Silmitasertib (CX-4945) in the Treatment of Basal Cell Carcinoma

Basal Cell Carcinoma CSR Highlights

  • CX-4945 Monotherapy: Progression-free survival (PFS) exceeded 21 months in two patients.
  • Optimal Treatment Response: Three patients achieved partial response (PR), while ten patients had stable disease (SD).
  • Tolerability & Disease Control Rate: Shows potential superiority over current first- and second-line therapies.
  • Unmet Medical Need: Enrolled patients with refractory or recurrent disease who had no remaining treatment options.

TAIPEI and SAN DIEGO, April 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Senhwa Biosciences, Inc. (TPEx: 6492), a new drug development company focusing on first-in-class therapeutics for oncology, rare diseases, and infectious diseases, today announced that the completion of Clinical Study Report (CSR) for Phase 1/Dose Expansion Trial of Silmitasertib (CX-4945) in the Treatment of Basal Cell Carcinoma(BCC), with positive data outcomes. The study included patients who had relapsed after standard therapies and had no other treatment options. Among them, three patients experienced over 30% tumor reduction (PR), and two patients had a progression-free survival (PFS) exceeding 21 months. CX-4945 significantly prolonged survival in advanced cancer patients, marking a major milestone for both the patients and Senhwa.

Compared to current first- and second-line therapies, CX-4945 demonstrated superior tolerability and disease control potential. Therefore, Senhwa will actively pursue licensing possibilities while carefully evaluating CX-4945’s potential as a monotherapy or in combination with the second-line immunotherapy Libtayo. The company aims to explore further indications and potential as a first-line treatment, offering better options for patients.

Clinical Trial Overview

The trial enrolled 25 patients with locally advanced BCC (laBCC, 20 patients) and metastatic BCC (mBCC, 5 patients). The primary objective was to determine the recommended Phase 2 dose (RP2D) and optimal dosing regimen for CX-4945.

Among 22 patients eligible for efficacy analysis:

  • Three laBCC patients achieved partial response (PR).
  • Ten patients had stable disease (SD), including 2 mBCC and 8 laBCC patients.
  • Disease control rates:
    • mBCC patients: 80% (4 patients with complete/partial response or stable disease).
    • laBCC patients: 65% (11 patients with complete/partial response or stable disease).

Further data analysis showed that:

  • Median progression-free survival (PFS):
    • laBCC: 9.2 months
    • mBCC: 3.7 months
  • Median duration of disease control (DDC):
    • laBCC: 10.3 months
    • mBCC: 7.5 months

CX-4945 exhibited promising anti-tumor efficacy and disease stabilization potential in this indication. Additionally, CX-4945 has a lower study drug discontinuation rate of 24% due to AEs, compared to first-line treatments including Vismodegib and Sonidegib, suggesting superior tolerability.

Future Prospects

This trial is particularly noteworthy as it evaluated CX-4945 monotherapy in patients who had already failed first-line HHIs. Notably, 27.3% (6 patients) had also failed second-line PD-1 inhibitors such as Libtayo or Keytruda.

Among the enrolled patients, two advanced-stage patients achieved a progression-free survival (PFS) of over 21 months, lasting 653 days and 667 days, respectively. Notably, the primary lesion of the former patient was almost undetectable by visual inspection.

Given the significant potential of CX-4945 as a monotherapy, Senhwa is now actively pursuing regional licensing to accelerate commercialization through strategic partnerships, ultimately benefiting more patients.

Over 2/3 of Companies Surveyed Believe that Reciprocal Tariffs Present Greater Concerns for Business

Survey by The American Chamber of Commerce in Singapore (AmChamSG) Reveals a Complex Picture of Concern and Caution Among Business

SINGAPORE, April 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The American Chamber of Commerce in Singapore (AmChamSG), in collaboration with BowerGroupAsia Singapore and PwC Singapore, publishes ‘Navigating Tariffs: Insights from AmChamSG Flash Survey’. The report includes findings from an online survey of AmChamSG Members to better understand the impact of the implementation of tariffs on their operations, the business environment and investment decisions.

Key findings include:

  • More than 2/3 of respondents believe that reciprocal tariffs present greater concerns for business than existing measures.
  • 20% of respondents believe that the new U.S. tariffs will have no impact on them. In contrast, over 70% believe that there will be a negative impact on their operations.
  • Nearly half (45%) of survey respondents plan to pass on increased costs to consumers. Other strategies include diversifying supply chains to reduce dependence on high-tariff markets and leveraging these disruptions to increase market share where competitors are slower to adapt.
  • Over 90% of respondents believe that the tariffs will harm the U.S. economy more than ASEAN or Singapore. More than 2/3 believe that the tariffs will generally harm all economies.

Dr. Hsien-Hsien Lei, Chief Executive Officer of AmChamSG said, “The findings from the AmChamSG flash survey show that tariffs and trade tensions have caused companies to feel greater uncertainty which then delays major decisions that would affect business operations.

Even businesses that currently do not believe that tariffs will impact them need to exercise due diligence and closely examine their supply chain, including increased market costs, reduced competitiveness, and possible disruptions to vendors and suppliers, to ensure that they are fully prepared.

AmChamSG is committed to supporting our members as they navigate the new tariff regime through advocacy, community, and thought leadership.”

Ponsse Greasing System – new solutions for forest machines chain lubrication

VIEREMÄ, Finland, April 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The PONSSE Greasing System is a new optional accessory for Ponsse harvester heads, designed for chainsaw lubrication. The system feeds grease to the chainsaw from screw-in grease cartridges according to the dosing settings made through the Opti5G information system. Grease cartridges stored in a warm place ensure effective lubrication throughout the work shift.

“This is a solution that makes the workday of a forest machine operator easier, especially in cold weather. The grease cartridges replace the fixed grease tank in the harvester head, so you no longer need to pump cold grease from an external container to the harvester head’s grease tank. The cartridge is quick and easy to replace. The cartridges are easy to transport and can be stored in car or cabin,” says Toni Rajaniemi, Ponsse’s project manager.

The lubrication system can hold two 400-gram screw cartridges, which last approximately 8-16 hours, depending on the amount of sawing and dosing settings. The dosing settings can be adjusted from the Opti 5G information system according to the situation and need.

The information system notifies the operator when it is time to change the cartridge.  The grease cartridge is quick to change, so the machine’s downtime is very short. The grease cartridge can be refilled.

Ponsse’s range includes grease cartridges suitable for various needs such as mineral oil-based grease or new biodegradable oil-based grease. The PONSSE Greasing System is currently available for all PONSSE H6, H7, and H8 harvester heads. The Greasing Systems can also be retrofitted.

Xinhua Silk Road: China’s Dehua white porcelain shines in exhibition held in Japan’s Kyoto

BEIJING, April 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — An exhibition featuring over 80 pieces of China’s renowned Dehua white porcelain opened at the Museum of Kyoto in Japan from March 27 to 30.

The artworks, crafted in Dehua County, Quanzhou City in southeast China’s Fujian Province, were divided into categories such as classical cultural recreations, artisanal porcelain, everyday porcelain, and export porcelain. These works that blend practicality with artistic beauty drew enthusiastic responses from Japanese audiences, noted Xu Jianyong, executive vice president of Fujian Ceramics Industry Association.

Dehua porcelain has gained worldwide fame as “Blanc de Chine” (White from China) for its milky-white hue and jade-like finish. Different from this simple elegance, Japanese ceramics emphasize rich colors and decorations. The two cultural styles can have an extraordinary encounter with each other through such exhibitions, said Wang Jiaming, who is in charge of the art department of Seki Shikyo Art Lab, the exhibition curator.

The event facilitated cultural exchanges between Fujian’s master artisans and Japanese ceramic enthusiasts.

Zhang Minggui, executive secretary general of Dehua ceramic art masters alliance, said both China and Japan boast long history of porcelain production. This exhibition transcended art display and became a cultural dialogue allowing Japanese audiences to experience the charming traditional Chinese culture.

During the Sui and Tang dynasties (581-907), a large number of Chinese ceramics were exported to Japan, exerting significant influence on Japanese ceramics. During the Song and Yuan dynasties (960-1368) when Quanzhou’s overseas trade boomed, Dehua porcelain wares became cornerstone exports on the Maritime Silk Road.

Dehua saw its annual ceramic output value grow 15 percent year on year to reach 66.3 billion yuan (about 9.1 billion U.S. dollars) in 2024, with over 60 percent of its products shipped to more than 190 countries and regions.

The county has taken moves to expand overseas markets in recent years, including establishing seven white porcelain promotion and exhibition centers in places like Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Malacca, and organizing international showcases in Malaysia, Germany, and the United States among others.
