Humanoid robots gain momentum, but hardware costs hold back mass adoption, says DIGITIMES

TAIPEI, Sept. 1, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — When Nvidia framed the next wave of AI as “physical AI,” it helped ignite a surge of interest in humanoid robots, accelerating development efforts worldwide. Yet, according to DIGITIMES’ latest report, these machines will account for just 0.2% of the global robotics market this year – still concentrated in niche logistics, warehousing, and manufacturing applications, far from broad, multi-sector deployment.

AI accelerates development, but manufacturing costs remain prohibitive

In the Humanoid robotics, 2025 – Market trends, critical components & strategic shifts report, advances in AI are shortening the design cycle for humanoid robots by allowing developers to simulate and refine complex capabilities, such as bipedal balance or delicate object handling, before building physical prototypes. This virtual-first approach reduces the time and expense of trial-and-error engineering, while enhancing robots’ perception and decision-making.

But success in simulation does not guarantee commercial viability. Real-world deployment remains constrained by high manufacturing costs. Enhanced sensing and processing demands translate into more chips and sensors, while precise motion control requires specialized actuators and mechanical components – often in small production runs that drive up costs. Today’s humanoid robots typically sell for US$50,000-400,000, compared with under US$30,000 for industrial robots of similar size and function. Without economies of scale, prices are unlikely to drop enough to make them competitive in service or home markets.

Three forces, three phases

DIGITIMES identifies three key factors shaping humanoid robots’ evolution – AI maturity, hardware component costs, and safety regulations – each driving a distinct stage of growth:

Phase one (3-5 years): AI advances will enhance performance and expand industrial use, but high costs will keep adoption focused on logistics, warehousing, and manufacturing.

Phase two (5-10 years): As hardware becomes cheaper through scale, service industries will become the primary market, provided safety standards begin to take hold.

Phase three (10+ years): Once AI, hardware economics, and robust safety frameworks converge, humanoid robots could enter homes in large numbers, triggering a true market inflection point.

The road ahead

Humanoid robots are almost certain to become part of the physical AI era. What remains uncertain is not the “if” but the “when,” “where,” and “how.” In the near term, the pace of hardware innovation and cost reduction – not AI breakthroughs – will decide how fast the humanoid revolution moves from factory floors to everyday life.

SEOUL, South Korea, Sept. 1, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Quantum computing company Norma (CEO Hyunchul Jung, www.norma.co.kr) has achieved over 73× faster performance in drug development by running its quantum AI algorithm on NVIDIA GH200 Grace Hopper Superchips.

Norma recently tested and validated the performance of its self-developed quantum AI algorithms on the NVIDIA CUDA-Q platform. CUDA-Q simplifies the integration of GPUs and QPUs and supports quantum-classical hybrid operations, including serving as a core technology to accelerate the development and execution of quantum algorithms. Norma is independently developing quantum AI algorithms applicable across sectors such as biotechnology, defense, and finance. The company is currently running projects to execute these algorithms in the CUDA-Q environment and validate their performance.

The project was launched as part of a joint research effort with Kyung Hee University Hospital at Gangdong, aimed at discovering novel drug candidates. Due to the vastness of the chemical search space, traditional AI approaches encounter computational limitations in drug discovery. To overcome this, Norma’s Quantum AI team has been developing algorithms such as QLSTM, QGAN, and QCBM. These algorithms are typically trained and evaluated using various quantum simulators. In this latest test, NVIDIA CUDA-Q demonstrated significantly superior computational performance compared to other simulators.

Norma used CUDA-Q environment using NVIDIA H200 GPUs and NVIDIA GH200 to test its quantum AI algorithms for drug development. The results showed that NVIDIA CUDA-Q significantly outperformed traditional CPU-based methods. Specifically, the execution and measurement (forward propagation) of an 18-qubit quantum circuit were approximately 60.14 to 73.32 times faster, while the loss function-based correction process (backward propagation) was about 33.69 to 41.56 times faster.

Genshin Impact × Guizhou: Exploring the Fairyland on Earth to Experience the Charm of Ancient Styles

GUIYANG, China, Sept. 1, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — A news report by Huanqiu.com

For seizing the opportunities of cultural development driven by the combination of virtuality and reality, the open-world adventure RPG Genshin Impact and Guizhou made an innovative attempt through their cross-border collaboration to explore the infinite possibilities of integrating intangible cultural heritage protection and cultural tourism. This trans-dimensional dialogue not only rejuvenates those millennial-old Miao villages, but also brings traditional culture to the young generation in a vivid and refreshing manner.

From June 6 to 22, 2025, Genshin Impact worked with the Guizhou side to jointly launch a pop-up event themed “Genshin in Mountains and Waters, Walking Together to the New Year” at the MIXC Mall in Guiyang, Guizhou Province. According to Yu Qi, an on-site staff member of the Genshin Impact pop-up event staff, the decorative design was inspired by the iconic building of Liyue Harbor appearing in the game, and Guizhou’s scenery, cuisine and folk culture was presented in the event, allowing players to gain a deeper understanding of Guizhou’s distinctive charm through such flash mob.

Lan Yan, my favorite character in Genshin Impact, has several elements derived from the ethnic culture of Southwest China, and their collaboration seems to transport me really to the game.” A Genshin Impact fan expressed in an interview on the event site, “I love this game not only for its gorgeous scenic buildings and vivid characters, but also because of the rich heritages of Chinese culture during the map adventure. I plan to visit the Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village in the next few days.”

At the Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village, a cluster of stilt houses were built along the slope of mountains and the Baishui River meanders quietly through the village, forming a unique view of “a river crossing the valley, and one thousand households living by the river”. When night falls, countless household lights respond to the starry sky at a great distance, which turn the virtual scenes developed jointly by Genshin Impact and Guizhou into reality.

Actually, the charm of Miao villages lies in both natural scenery and ever-lasting intangible cultural heritage in Guizhou. Female batik workers living in the villages are still using copper knives as painting brushes and beeswax as ink to draw patterns on plain cloth, which are then dyed with indigo plant into beautiful batik products. The Miao batik technique, which has been included in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List, is rejuvenated under the innovative model of “game + intangible cultural heritage”.

Batik is a technique passed through generations among Miao women. In Miao villages, people know how to make batik in almost every household. They pass on the batik skills from the elder to the young, from mothers to daughters or learn the batik skills from each other, to maintain the uninterrupted inheritance of the intangible cultural heritage. Kang Qili, Chairman of Danzhai County Women’s Federation, mentioned, “The inheritance of batik skills allows Miao women to earn a stable income with their dexterous hands and gain confidence in the cultural continuation, by doing handiwork and making money while taking care of their children.”

When game characters are dressed in Miao embroidery costumes and a cluster of stilt houses is reproduced in virtual scenes, we can see more than simply cultural collaboration, but a dialogue among civilizations beyond temporal and spatial boundaries. In the game Genshin Impact, the character Lan Yan is a rattan weaving artisan. Such innovative mode provides a new paradigm for the protection of intangible cultural heritages. In other words, the mode enables the traditional culture to truly “come alive, get passed down and go global” through technological empowerment and youthful expression.

Valor and Patriotism in China: How Heroic Spirits Endure

BEIJING, Sept. 1, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — A news report from China.org.cn on some stories of China’s national heroes:

Valor and Patriotism in China: How Heroic Spirits Endure

Across China, one can find many places named after people, such as Zuoquan County, Shangzhi City, Zhang Zizhong Road, and Yiman Street. These names commemorate the national heroes who sacrificed their lives during the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

Among these, Yiman Street is named after Zhao Yiman, a female martyr whose birth name was Li Kuntai. She was born into a wealthy family in southwestern China’s Sichuan Province; later she received her education in Whampoa Military Academy before pursuing further study in Moscow. There, she waved goodbye to her newlywed husband and returned to China. She left her baby son in the care of her relatives, and headed to Japanese-occupied Northeastern China.

In 1935, Zhao Yiman was severely injured while covering her fellow troops, and subsequently captured by the enemy. The Japanese militarists tortured Zhao Yiman brutally. Despite that, Zhao still refused to compromise.

Having failed to extract any information from Zhao, the Japanese militarists decided to execute her. Before her death, Zhao wrote a letter to her son, whom she hadn’t seen since entrusting him to others, and would never see again. “Ning’er, I feel pitiful for not having the chance to raise you. I dedicated my life to the resistance against Japanese aggression, and now it’s the eve of my sacrifice. My dearest boy! I need not teach you through words; I will educate you with my deeds…” On August 2, 1936, Zhao Yiman died a martyr’s death.

Like Zhao Yiman, many Chinese soldiers also braved death fearlessly, showcasing strong will and unyielding courage to defend their motherland.

Away from the front lines, ordinary people found their own ways to defend their motherland and resist Japanese aggression. In southwestern China’s Yunnan Province, when most able-bodied men were enlisted in the army, the elderly, women, and even children came forward, using simple tools to construct the road linking China and Burma (now Myanmar), which later became the only vital lifeline connecting China to the outside world. Several thousand people died during the road’s construction. More than 3,200 overseas Chinese left their comfortable homes in Southeast Asian countries and returned to China; they worked as truck drivers and mechanics, keeping the transportation artery flowing under constant gunfire, with over a third of them sacrificing their lives. There were also numerous ordinary Chinese villagers, who supported guerrillas by providing shelter and relaying messages, and ordinary women who sewed military uniforms and cared for injured soldiers.

The devoted love for the country, the unwavering resolve, and the steadfast belief in final victory sustained the sons and daughters of the Chinese nation to triumph over the aggressors in this 14-year war. Although eight decades have passed, their legacy lives on in the hearts and souls of every Chinese in their remembrance of history.

Gunfire has ceased, but the spirits of the heroes endure, guiding and encouraging the Chinese nation.
