Food Automation Pioneer, Pazzi, launches Pazzi Robotics to propose F&B fully-automated kitchen

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach – 6 January 2022 – Pazzi Robotics, a French kitchen software and robotics startup, recently announced the launch of fully-automated packaged solutions for the Food and Beverage (F&B) industry. The solutions range from food preparation to final assembly, based on fully-automated procedures performed by robots.

Pazzi Robotics launched their second automated pizzeria in Paris in summer 2021. The fully-autonomous restaurant uses Pazzi, a pizza robot, throughout the entire cooking process. No human intervention in the kitchen.

Customers can send their order requests via a mobile app or through the various touchscreen kiosks at the restaurant, and can collect their freshly-made pizza from a marked cubby, just a few minutes later. This unique tech-based restaurant concept, with a robot-chef, attracted customers from all over the world, who are amazed to watch their food being prepared by robots in real time. The robots produce up to 80 gourmet pizzas per hour, allowing restaurant owners to focus more on customer experience and service.

The global food robotics market is expected to reach $3.1 billion by 2025. The pandemic has made the implementation of autonomous solutions in the F&B industry even more important, as it helps to effectively manage human resources and minimize contamination risks. With Singapore moving towards Industry 4.0, the Government has come up with several initiatives to increase AI adoption in businesses, with numerous applications in robotics. Pazzi is a good example of how advanced robotics can help to deliver higher efficiency and safety in F&B.

Pazzi Robotics has spent 7 years to develop a disruptive and proprietary solution that combines software, data and precision robotics for fully automating the kitchen process end-to-end, from ingredients selection to finished quality dishes. It aims to help the F&B industry address challenges such as staff shortage, resource management and productivity, hygiene and safety, value and quality to consumers. The pizzas from Pazzi restaurants in Paris are highly rated by consumers.

Pazzi Robotics is backed by Qualgro, a venture capital firm based in Singapore and Partech, Daphni two leading European VCs.

Redress Design Award 2022 Seeks Global Entries

World’s largest sustainable fashion design competition offers HK$80,000 (US$10,000) in funding as VF’s Timberland® unveils debut collection designed with Redress Design Award 2020 winner

HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach – 5 January 2022 – It’s a banner month for leading Hong Kong-based environmental NGO Redress as it unveils plans for its Redress Design Award 2022, the world’s largest sustainable fashion design competition, with Lead Sponsor Create Hong Kong (CreateHK) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. This is the 12th cycle of the Redress Design Award which invites aspiring designers globally to vie for HK$80,000 (US$10,000) in development funding and an exciting design collaboration with VF Corporation, a global leader in branded lifestyle apparel, footwear and accessories, and its Timberland® brand. Simultaneously, Timberland® is debuting the awaited sustainable Lunar New Year collection designed in collaboration with Vietnamese designer Le Ngoc Ha Thu who secured the opportunity as the winner of the Redress Design Award 2020 Menswear category.

The Redress Design Award 2022’s online applications will open on 6 January 2022 for designers across the globe, with the deadline on 16 March for submissions. This year’s winner will have the opportunity to team up with Timberland®to be mentored and collaborate on a special design project. The winning designer will also receive HK$80,000 (US$10,000) as development fund and additional prizes. Runners-up will receive development funds and other prizes. “This is a standout opportunity for The Redress Design Award 2022 winning designer to collaborate with Timberland, one of the world’s industry leaders in sustainability, to make positive change,” says Redress Founder Christina Dean. “The fashion world is screaming out for innovation to help it transform from polluter to pioneer, and the next generation of designers can help to drive this.”

Speaking at the Media Launch of the Redress Design Award 2022 held on 5 January 2022, Jersey Yuen, Assistant Head of CreateHK, welcomed the return of the Redress Design Award and encouraged designers to join the competition.

A key component of this year’s Redress Design Award will be educating emerging designers about the concept of embedding circularity into fashion and design. According to an EU 2018 Science Hub Report, over 80 percent of a product’s environmental impact is locked in at the design stage. With that important figure in mind, this year’s judges will be looking for designs that can best showcase low-waste, low-impact materials and processes; longevity; and recyclability.

In order to further educate designers and potential Redress Design Award applicants alike on these key principles, Redress has refreshed and expanded its Redress Academy platform (previously called LEARN), to offer free in-depth resources for designers who seek to learn more about sustainable and circular fashion. The Redress Academy includes guides, videos and case studies on topics from sourcing to design, production and marketing, all with circularity at the forefront. A vital component is the Pathway Course, a free online programme rich in practical tips and featuring leading industry experts, with the opportunity for the participants to receive a certificate upon finishing the programme. Those who apply to take part in this year’s Redress Design Award will be entitled to participate in the course through 16 March 2022. “We designed this course with the understanding that fashion can be ever-changing, with sustainability at its core,” says Morgane Parizot, Redress Education Director. “Those who take the course will deepen their knowledge of circular fashion design strategies and techniques, giving them an edge on both the competition and the fast-changing fashion industry.”

Simultaneously this week, Timberland® has released their Lunar New Year collection; a collaboration with Ngoc Ha Thu Le, the Redress Design Award 2020 Menswear winner. The collection will be available for sale in stores globally. “It’s exciting working with a design talent like Thu, whose approach to sustainability marries progressive design with innovative techniques,” says Marco Pavoncelli, Senior Director, Timberland® APAC. “This is also a primary reason why we’re teaming up with Redress as Prize Partner of the Redress Design Award for a third consecutive year to attract top up-and-coming designers from all corners of the globe who are driving sustainability through circularity in fashion.”

Thu’s pinnacle piece is a 3-in-1 parka and accompanying backpack, which offers endless combinations for diverse activities and living conditions. “The insights and experience I gained from Timberland are invaluable and have given me a more realistic view of sustainability in the industry,” says Thu. With last year’s Redress Design Award attracting entries from a record 58 countries, Thu also hopes that her debut collection serves as inspiration to others. “The Redress Design Award journey has been deeply rewarding and invaluable in kickstarting my design career.”

Nanyang Polytechnic and Schneider Electric Launched One-Stop Sustainability Experience Centre to Introduce Green Solutions at Workplaces

The centre will help local companies implement energy-efficient initiatives and reduce overhead costs

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach – 5 January 2022 – Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) and Schneider Electric have launched a one-stop Sustainability Experience Centre to help Singapore’s small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) implement green technologies at the workplace. This can help Singapore achieve its goal of having at least 80% of buildings to be green by 2030, according to the Building and Construction Authority’s Green Masterplan.

Dr Kan Ee May, Specialist (Sustainability Engineering) and Lecturer, School of Engineering, Nanyang Polytechnic (Far Right) and Mr Jackson Seng, Sustainability Business Development Director, Schneider Electric (Second from Left) at the launch of Nanyang Polytechnic’s Sustainability Experience Centre

A key showcase at the centre focuses on sustainable facilities management. Augmented reality is tapped for instant diagnosis, and when coupled with contactless and predictive maintenance, the overall power efficiency of a venue is significantly improved. This helps SMEs operate more sustainably and enhances the productivity of maintenance crew, as repairs and rectifications can be reliably predicted, and preventive maintenance be made ahead of time.

At the centre, students from NYP’s School of Engineering will be able to gain valuable hands-on experience in cutting edge solutions used by the industry to meet sustainability goals. For example, students from NYP’s Diploma in Electronic & Computer Engineering will learn how to integrate multiple systems and devices to collect and analyse relevant data. The first-hand experience would provide gainful insights to these students, thereby preparing a steady pipeline of talents to meet the demands for sustainability solutions in future industries.

NYP’s Principal & Chief Executive Officer, Ms Jeanne Liew, said: “We are excited to partner Schneider Electric, one of the world’s leaders in energy solutions, to launch NYP’s Sustainability Experience Centre. With NYP’s expertise in engineering systems and data analytics, alongside Schneider Electric’s technology and solutions, SMEs will now have easy access to kickstart their green journey. This is also a great opportunity to strengthen and inculcate a sustainability-conscious mindset among our youth and empower them to play a role in bringing about a greener future”.

Another key showcase at the Centre helps SMEs identify solutions to optimise power usage and reduce energy consumption. With deft application of automation and sensors, lights would be activated only in areas where needed; and data usage patterns can also be analysed in real-time. Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure Building Operation 3.0 makes this possible by pulling in data from a wide range of sensors, running an analysis, and providing users with suggestions to maximise energy use and reduce overall cost. It can also adjust lighting and temperature on the fly. According to Singapore’s Energy Efficiency Programme Office (E²PO), occupancy sensors for lighting controls can result in at least 50% energy savings[1] after implementation at workplaces. Implementing such energy efficient measures helps SMEs reduce operating costs and become more competitive.

Schneider Electric and NYP are also co-training a nexus of future-ready workforce to meet the increasing demands to help companies implement a sustainable transport solution – through electric fleets. To date, staff from more than 20 SMEs have been trained on the key skills of managing Electric Vehicles (EVs), including setting up charging systems and processes for these EVs. To ensure buildings have enough electric supply capacity for EV charging stations, Schneider Electric also developed an EVlink Wallbox, to integrate with a load management system to regulate the amount of electricity allocated for EV charging in real-time. This allows building owners to deploy such sustainable solutions with minimal infrastructure cost, while ensuring that critical functions are prioritised to prevents electrical overload.

Cluster President, Singapore, Malaysia & Brunei, Schneider Electric, Yoon Young Kim, said: “Our commitment to fostering the next generation of engineers and dedication to sustainability are core identities of Schneider Electric. This opportunity to work with NYP is a perfect match with our DNA. We have always been advocates of using cutting edge technology to help the industry meet critical sustainability goals, and our own regional headquarters at Kallang is a testament to that belief. The Sustainability Experience Centre is a fantastic two-pronged approached where we can showcase our technology to the industry while training the next generation who can help them implement these solutions.”

The Centre was built with a strong sustainability focus, with most materials being highly rated products under the Singapore Green Building Product (SGBP) certification scheme administered by Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC).

SGBC President Ar. Tang Kok Thye said: “Going green is not just the work of the building and construction industry, everyone is a stakeholder and beneficiary of a greener, healthier built environment. By putting together such a showcase of proven sustainability solutions for students and industry to learn from, we will be able to move the needle towards greater adoption and advance the environment that we live, work and learn in to one that is better for not just ourselves but for the next generation and beyond.”

Unilogic Technologies Pte Ltd and Ichi Seiki Pte Ltd are among companies who have visited the Centre to learn more about the solutions they can readily adopt.

Jiehui Kia, Business Development Manager, Ichi Seiki Pte Ltd, said, “Global and national climate targets have been set, so we expect that sustainability will be a key priority for manufacturers in Singapore. The launch of the Sustainability Experience Centre at NYP is timely, as it brings together multiple solutions and integration possibilities and demonstrate how these could work in one single location. This gives SMEs a good starting point to learn about the solutions that may be relevant to us.”

The Sustainability Experience Centre will be conducting a workshop in March 2022 to help SMEs better analyse, identify and adopt relevant green solutions. Companies keen to tour the centre or attend the workshop can email kan_ee_may@nyp.edu.sg or 6550-0909 to register.
