Newly formed Danxangmixay District in Vientiane Capital

Some 24 villages in Vientiane’s Xaythany District are being rezoned under the administration of Vientiane Capital’s newly created Danxangmixay District.

According to a notice issued by the Mayor of Vientiane Capital, authorities have finalized steps to establish the new district, set to be the tenth district in the capital.

The district, so far unnamed, will see the rezoning of 24 villages including Nangom Kao, Nangom Mai, Nakhai, Nakhanthoung, Phonpheng, Houakhoua, Houana, Natan, Sambone, Thongmang, Khoud Sambard, Hadkeing, Nakoung, Phonkhor, Phonhaikham, Phonhong, Hadphain, Douangbouddy, Nathae, Thadindeng Nue, Thadindeng Tai, Vernthaen, Tha Champa and Hai.

Authorities are now gathering further information to produce a new town map and assign each type of land following the city’s development strategy.

Xaythany District currently has over 100 villages, containing nearly 44,000 households, and the creation of a new district will ease overcrowding and better distribute public facilities.

The process for developing the new district commenced in 2018, with authorities planning infrastructure including office buildings.

Former Mayor of Vientiane Capital, Dr. Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune, said in a statement earlier this year that the new district is located in a forested area with intriguing animals and natural attractions, such as rivers and waterfalls, and hence has the potential to be developed as a tourist destination.

The establishment of the new district is part of Vientiane’s 2025 growth strategy, which includes plans to develop greater Vientiane into commercial and residential zones.
