Laos Man Arrested in Thailand After Chasing Bogus Singer.

A man from Laos was apprehended after illegally entering Thailand via the Friendship Bridge in an attempt to visit famous country singer, Tai Orathai.

According to a report by Channel 8 Thailand, Mukdahan police arrested the man, identified as 40-year-old Phoulom Keoponema, who had crossed into Thailand on a motorbike registered to Savannakhet Province in Laos.

Mr. Phoulom told Thai police that he had been communicating with a Facebook user who he believed was famous Thai country singer, Tai Orathai.

He said the two had been chatting for one month before an appointment to meet each other was made.

The two arranged to meet in That Phanom District, Nakhon Phanom, some 28 kilometers from where the police arrested the man.

He was apprehended before he was able to complete his would-be encounter.

Singer Tai Orathai, who is renowned in Laos as well as Thailand, has not yet made a comment regarding the incident.

Questions have been asked as to how the man was able to cross the Friendship Bridge from Savannakhet into Mukdahan by motorbike.

Police have stated that Mukdahan Immigration Office will be conducting its own investigation with more updates to come.
