Journalists in Laos were invited to a media briefing on the situation in Ukraine jointly hosted by the German and Canadian embassies on Monday.

German Ambassador to Laos, Ms. Annette Knobloch, and Canadian Chargé d’Affaires to Laos, Mr. Bob Paquin, hosted Mr. Oleksandr Lysak, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Ukraine Embassy in Bangkok, who spoke about the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine via video link.

Mr. Lysak commented on the situation in Ukraine following almost 100 days of Russian troops in its territory, with the ongoing conflict leading to a large number of civilian deaths and casualties.

He spoke about how the military conflict had caused immeasurable damage to the country’s infrastructure and economy, calling it the worst disaster in decades.

Journalists questioned the Ambassador on areas such as seaport closures and an ongoing food crisis.

Laos has repeatedly called for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, issuing a statement in February urging all parties to exercise restraint and seek a peaceful settlement through diplomatic means.
