The unfortunate incident took place in Southern Binh Duong Province and seven people also suffered injuries while trying to escape the fire.
The incident took place around 9 pm Tuesday night just 50 minutes away from Ho Chi Minh City at An Phu karaoke parlor located in the town of Thuan An.
The mini extinguishers already available at the venue were of no help to stop the fire. It spread speedily trapping around 40 people, both staff and customers in the 400 square meters area with hardly any avenue for escape.
Soon soundproof foam mattresses and wooden interiors were engulfed in flames blocking the emergency exit. Many of those trapped were forced to jump from the balcony, injuring themselves.
Thirteen fire trucks took 40 minutes to extinguish the fire.
VN Express reported that the fire started after some explosions on the first and second floors of the building. The police are now investigating the source of the fire.
Such incidents seem to increasingly crop up in the region. Just over a month ago, a fire was reported at a pub in the Chonburi province of Thailand which claimed 13 lives.
