Direct Air Asia flights between Vientiane and Kuala Lumpur are scheduled to return in late March operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

According to tourism experts, this route was quite popular before the pandemic, especially for tourists transiting from Europe or for Lao tourists going to Malaysia.

However, no direct flights resumed after Laos reopened its borders in May. Previously, there was also a Kuala Lumpur-Luang Prabang flight, but it stopped operating in 2018 due to a lack of promotion and use.

One Facebook user also commented on a tourism forum on Facebook saying that he had booked a direct flight from Kuala Lumpur to Vientiane recently, but the route was revised by the airline.

“I booked KUL-VTE and it was canceled by Air Asia, then they changed it into KUL-DMK-VTE,” informed the Facebook user.

Reportedly, a direct flight had started on this route after Laos reopened its borders in May 2022, but it was abruptly canceled soon after and everyone had to fly to Bangkok and then take a second flight to Kuala Lumpur. One-way direct flights in March are currently priced at USD 55 onwards on the Air Asia website.

Lao Airlines is also launching new flight routes soon to welcome Chinese tourists into the country after China recently reopened its borders.
