Vientiane Capital Department of Information, Culture, and Tourism announced this week that it will start inspecting entertainment venues in the capital to ensure that they are not open after midnight.
Director of the Vientiane Capital Department of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Ms. Vilayvone Chanthalaty, said the department will coordinate with local authorities to monitor the operating hours of entertainment venues.
According to Ms. Vilayvone, in Vientiane Capital, entertainment venues must close at 12:00 AM or soon after midnight.
The department will also check if business owners of entertainment venues, have licenses in place to sell alcohol.
Places that are registered as restaurants but also function as entertainment venues were also urged to refrain from doing the latter.
Closing times for restaurants and entertainment venues vary in different areas in Laos.
As such entertainment venues are expected to close by midnight, while a 2021 Decision on restaurants issued by the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism states that restaurants should close “at whatever time is stipulated by the authorities at any time.”
Meanwhile, the governor of Vientiane Capital issued a notice on Monday prohibiting the importation, production, or possession of some firecrackers during the Chinese and Vietnamese New Year.
