Australia’s Special Envoy for Southeast Asia, Nicholas Moore, is visiting Vientiane from 11 to 13 July as part of his regional consultations to help guide the development of the Southeast Asia Economic Strategy.Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese appointed Mr. Nicholas Moore as Special
Envoy for Southeast Asia in November 2022 to lead the development of the Australian
Government’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040.
The Strategy will set a practical pathway to strengthen Australia’s economic
engagement with Southeast Asia by mapping current and emerging opportunities to
bolster two-way trade and investment.
While in Laos, Special Envoy Nicholas Moore will meet with leading business figures from a
range of sectors, including energy and mining.
He will meet key counterparts in the Government of Laos responsible for promoting trade and investment. He will also gain insight into how Australia’s long-running development cooperation has strengthened the business environment in Laos.
Australia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs has said that “The appointment of the Special
Envoy for Southeast Asia is a clear signal of the priority Australia places on expanding
our economic relationship with the region.”
