Vientiane Capital police arrested a 30-year-old man on 18 September for attempting to rob and murder his male partner.

The accused, Bounmai Sakda, a 30-year-old man from Xaythany district, Vientiane Capital, revealed that he had been in a relationship with the victim, Chandy, a 30-year-old man from Chanthabouly district, Vientiane Capital, since August 2023.

However, Bounmai said they had a serious argument on 17 September because Chandy didn’t want him to go out with another person, threatening to publish their private images on social media. In a fit of rage, Bounmai decided to kill Chandy to silence him and steal his belongings.

The Vientiane Police reported that Chandy was found severely beaten at around 11 p.m. on 17 September in the Km 21 area of Khoksivilay village, Xaythany district.

Upon interrogation, Bounmai informed the police that he asked Chandy to meet him with the pretense of wanting to “improve their relationship”. However, when Chandy was driving both of them to a hotel in his motorbike, Bounmai, who was in the backseat, overturned the motorcycle and stabbed Chandy many times with a sharp knife.

Chandy ran across the road to ask for help, but Bounmai chased after him and stabbed him repeatedly, leaving him for dead. Bounmai then stole Chandy’s belongings, including a gold necklace and ring, and fled the scene.

After arresting Bounmai, the police discovered Chandy’s items and turned him in for being prosecuted according to the law.
