Over 500 Women in Attapeu Receive Funding to Boost Nutrition, Household Farming

This Week

More than 500 women in Sanamxay district, Attapeu Province, have received over LAK 1.27 billion (USD 58,417) in financial support aimed at improving household nutrition and strengthening small-scale farming.

The assistance, provided under the Agriculture for Nutrition Phase 2 project led by the Attapeu Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, targets pregnant women, new mothers, and breastfeeding women to support better family nutrition and income generation.

Recipients are pregnant women and new mothers from ten villages, including Nong Muang, Matka, Phonemany, Baengvilay, Kasae, Chantor, Don, Pakbo, Nong Khae, and Phonesaat, were each awarded LAK 2.5 million (USD 115).

The funding is intended for vegetable cultivation and small animal raising, providing both immediate nutritional benefits for families and long-term income generation opportunities.

According to Sakbandit Chanthalangsy, Deputy Director of the Provincial Agriculture and Environment Department, the initiative reflects ongoing efforts to improve nutrition while strengthening self-sufficiency and sustainable livelihoods in rural communities.

He noted that the project supports health and food security while contributing to poverty reduction by enabling households to earn additional income.

The Agriculture for Nutrition Phase 2 project aligns with the government’s broader strategy to integrate nutrition programming with small-scale agriculture, helping vulnerable communities access nutritious food and sustain long-term food security.
